The Jujutsu Kaisen manga series features an extensive cast of characters created by Gege Akutami.

Concept and creation

Jujutsu Kaisen originates from the four chapter series Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, later retitled Jujutsu Kaisen 0. In retrospect, Akutami found the early design of Yuta Okkotsu too similar to that of fellow Jujutsu Sorcerer Megumi Fushiguro in the main series, thinking this they might confuse readers.[1] As a result, Akutami changed Yuta's look for the main series. For the series, Akutami teased readers with the possibility Yuta might have been romantically involved with another woman since Rika's death. Similar changes were given to the returning cast including Maki Zen'in, Toge Inumaki and Satoru Gojo due to the authors' preferences.[2] When Jujutsu Kaisen was created, Akutami created a new character, Yuji Itadori, for the leading role while Yuta became supporting. Similarities between Yuta and Itadori include their introduction to jujutsu, tragedy, naivety and having faced death. Despite their similarities, the two have been noted to "carry themselves very differently ... Itadori is outgoing, where Yuta is more reserved".[3][4]

Regarding the process of character creation, Akutami claimed that they must fall within the canons of shōnen manga in order to capture the attention of readers. Yuji is largely inspired by Akutami's older brother, who is the opposite of Akutami, according to the author's own words, as he had succeeded in sports and study.[5] Akutami said that the message of Jujutsu Kaisen is that nobody has the absolute truth, not the "good guys" nor the "bad guys", and if nobody is right, then nobody is wrong either, and that each character acts according to their own ethics. The Sensui arc of YuYu Hakusho inspired Akutami to create evil characters with the goal of eradicating humanity, for whom the readers, nevertheless, would feel a certain empathy.[5] The character of Nobara Kugisaki was written to be the strongest protagonist while Megumi Fushiguro did not stand out too much until the author decided to give him a line where he makes philosophy. Akutami, fearing that the manga would be cancelled, decided to expand the time during which Yuji is dead. Akutami also expressed regrets over the handling of Junpei Yoshino and his story arc.[6]

With Sukuna and Mahito, Akutami wanted to avoid the typical "deep down they are good" idea, stating that they are intrinsically evil beings who like to make humans suffer, but Akutami said that it cannot be proved that they are wrong, adding that Mahito was like Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, as Akutami never felt hatred for him.[5] For some characters, like Panda and Toge Inumaki, Akutami first created their visual aspects, while the character of Satoru Gojo came from an idea, which represents the paroxysm of force. Sukuna was Akutami's first favorite character due to his design being influenced by everything that Akutami had read, but Kento Nanami was the first character properly created and developed by Akutami, making him the author's later favorite character.[5]

Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School

Students

Yuji Itadori

Voiced by: Junya Enoki[7] (Japanese); Adam McArthur[8] (English)

Yuji Itadori (虎杖 悠仁, Itadori Yūji) is an athletic teenager who joins his school's Occult Club to avoid the track team. After opening a cursed box containing a rotting finger, his school is attacked by Curses. To protect his friends, Yuji consumes the finger, becoming possessed by the Curse Ryomen Sukuna. He is then taken under Satoru Gojo's wing and enrolls at Tokyo Jujutsu High, but is sentenced to death, suspended until he consumes all of Sukuna's fingers. When Yuji releases Sukuna for help, Sukuna kills and resurrects him, forcing a Binding Vow to take control of Yuji's body. Gojo introduces Yuji to mentor Kento Nanami. During the Sister School Event, Yuji befriends Aoi Todo, who teaches him Black Flash (黒閃, Kokusen), enhancing his strikes. Yuji and Nobara later kill Death Paintings Eso and Kechizu. In the Shibuya Incident, Yuji faces Choso, who nearly kills him, allowing Jogo to feed him 10 of Sukuna's fingers. Sukuna wreaks havoc, killing thousands, and Yuji vows to stop Kenjaku. He battles Mahito, who kills Nanami and disfigures Nobara, but Yuji, with Todo's help, defeats Mahito until Kenjaku absorbs the Curse. Yuji's execution is reinstated, and he hides with his half-brother Choso.

When Yuta and Naoya attempt to execute him, Yuta heals Yuji, and they join forces to stop Kenjaku in the Culling Games. Yuji recruits Hakari, Kirara, and Hiromi Higuruma. Sukuna exploits their Binding Vow to transfer into Megumi by making him eat Yuji's finger. Yuji's despair eases when Gojo is freed from the Prison Realm and challenges Sukuna. Determined to save Megumi, Yuji consumes Cursed Wombs, awakening Blood Manipulation (赤血 操術, Sekketsu Sōjutsu), which he learns from Kamo and Choso. Ui Ui swaps Yuji's soul with Kusakabe and Yuta, allowing him to learn Simple Domain and Reverse Cursed Technique.

Yuji confronts Sukuna after Gojo and Kashimo's deaths, using Blood Manipulation and Sukuna's Shrine (御厨子, Mizushi) technique. His Black Flash barrage weakens Sukuna's control over Megumi, forcing Sukuna to use Binding Vows to rejuvenate his domain. Choso sacrifices himself to protect Yuji, and Todo and Yuta join the fight. After Yuta disables Sukuna's domain with Hollow Purple, Yuji weakens Sukuna further, allowing Todo to switch in Angel for a final Jacob's Ladder. Yuji traps Sukuna in his Domain Expansion, and Megumi begins resisting Sukuna from within. With Nobara's Resonance on Sukuna's final finger, Yuji delivers a final Black Flash.

Megumi Fushiguro

Voiced by: Yuma Uchida[7] (Japanese); Robbie Daymond[8] (English)

Megumi Fushiguro (伏黒 恵, Fushiguro Megumi) is a student sorcerer in his first year at the Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School under the tutelage of Gojo. He meets Yuji when trying to locate a special-grade cursed charm talisman at his high school. Megumi is the one that convinces Satoru to save Yuji from his execution after his possession by Sukuna. Megumi possesses the Ten Shadows Technique (十種影法術, Tokusa no Kage Bōjutsu). He uses his Cursed Energy to create shikigami (式神) out of his own shadows to exorcise Curses. He has been noted to have high potential as a sorcerer by several other powerful people, including Sukuna himself. He was originally going to be sold to the Zen'in clan (one of the big three prestigious sorcerer families), which was stopped by Gojo. He becomes close friends with Yuji.

During the investigation of the Yasohachi Bridge case, he faces off against a special grade curse alone, manifesting his own incomplete Domain Expansion Chimera Shadow Garden (嵌合 暗翳庭, Kangō An'eitei), domain for the first time that floods the area with fluid shadows that can rapidly produce any shikigami Megumi desires or even clones of himself. The head of the Zen'in clan, Naobito suffers grievous injuries fighting Dagon and Jogo at Shibuya, and names Megumi as the next head of the Zen'in clan before dying. He and Yuji then compete in the Culling Games in order to save his sister Tsumiki. After the truth about his sister being possessed by Heian era sorcerer Yorozu is revealed, Sukuna possesses Megumi, becoming his new vessel. Sukuna is resolved to kill Yorozu, who is madly in love with him, to completely sink Megumi into despair by turning him into his own sister's killer. He summons Megumi's shikigami, including Mahoraga, and succeeds in killing Yorozu as well as Tsumiki. Following Tsumiki's death, Sukuna further sinks Megumi into despair with an ancient bath ritual of curses.

When the sorcerers successfully release Gojo from the Prison Realm, Gojo challenges Sukuna to a duel on Christmas Eve. During the duel, Gojo greatly injures Sukuna before his defeat, while Sukuna forces Megumi to be the target of Gojo's Infinite Void attacks. During the showdown with the reincarnated Sukuna, Yuta helps Yuji reach Megumi's soul inside, but the latter is too far gone into darkness and refuses his help. However, after Yuji traps Sukuna in his Domain Expansion and reaches out to him again, Megumi is finally inspired to fight back against Sukuna's control.

Nobara Kugisaki

Voiced by: Asami Seto[7] (Japanese); Anne Yatco[8] (English)

Nobara Kugisaki (釘崎 野薔薇, Kugisaki Nobara) is a sorcerer studying in the first year at the Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School under the tutelage of Gojo. She possesses the Straw Doll Technique (芻霊呪法, Sūrei Juhō). Her toolkit includes a straw doll, hammer, and nails, enabling her to perform two attacks: Resonance (共鳴, Tomonari), which links her Cursed Energy to a target via a straw doll or body part, causing black spikes to erupt from the target's chest, and Hairpin (, Kanzashi), which makes her nails explode with Cursed Energy. She transferred to Tokyo to escape her overbearing countryside village, leaving behind her only childhood friend, Fumi, and her idol, Saori, who was driven away by the villagers.

On her first mission, she meets Yuji and Megumi. During the Yasohachi Bridge case, she and Yuji defeat the Curse Womb Death Painting brothers, Eso and Kechizu, drawing Choso's vengeance. In the Shibuya incident, she confronts Mahito's double, using Resonance to damage its soul, but Mahito tricks her, severely injuring her. Though Arata Nitta stabilizes her, she falls into a coma, with Yuji and Megumi believing she died. She awakens during the Shinjuku Showdown, using Resonance on Sukuna's final finger to aid Yuji's Black Flash.

Maki Zen'in

Voiced by: Mikako Komatsu[9] (Japanese); Allegra Clark[10] (English)

Maki Zen'in (禪院 真希, Zen'in Maki) is a second-year at Tokyo Jujutsu High. Along with Toge and Panda, she recruits Megumi, Nobara, and Yuji for the Sister School Exchange Event. Born into the prestigious Zen'in clan but lacking Cursed Energy, she and her twin Mai were demoted to servants. She later left the clan to attend Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School and become a Jujutsu Sorcerer. Having no Cursed Energy, Maki requires the use of glasses to see Curses and uses a variety of weapons as Cursed Tools. However, being born with a Heavenly Restriction (天与呪縛, Ten'yo Jubaku), she possesses superhuman physical prowess, which more than makes up for her lack of Curse Energy. During the Shibuya incident, she teams with Naobito and Nanami to fight Dagon, surviving thanks to Megumi and Toji Fushiguro. Later, she destroys her clan to access their armory, gaining power after Mai's sacrifice and killing her father with the Split Soul Katana. In the Culling Games, she battles Naoya's cursed spirit in Sakurajima Colony, awakening her full potential with help from Hagane Daido and Rokujushi Muyo. During the Shinjuku Showdown, she confronts Sukuna, survives two Black Flashes, and is rescued by Miwa and Todo from his Domain Expansion.

Toge Inumaki

Voiced by: Koki Uchiyama[9] (Japanese); Xander Mobus[11] (English)

Toge Inumaki (狗巻 棘, Inumaki Toge) is a second year student at Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School who takes part in the Sister School Exchange Event alongside Maki and Panda. Inumaki's Cursed Technique is Cursed Speech (呪言, Jugon). He keeps his mouth covered and speaks only in various ingredients of rice balls. This is due to his cursed power concentrated in his voice, creating various effects against Curses depending on how he speaks and uses his words. During the Shibuya Incident, he is accidentally caught in Sukuna's Domain Expansion while trying to save the residents trapped in the area and loses his left arm. Following Gojo's release, he reunites with his friend Yuta. During the battle against Sukuna in Shinjuku, he records himself using Cursed Speech and Yuta uses the recorder to stall Sukuna's movements, though Inumaki still suffers the feedback of his technique.

Panda

Voiced by: Tomokazu Seki[9] (Japanese); Matthew David Rudd[12] (English)

Panda (パンダ) is a second year student at Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School who takes part in the Sister School Exchange Event. Although having an appearance of a giant panda, he is actually a unique type of Cursed Corpse created by Masamichi Yaga, the principal of the school, in which not only does Panda have sentience, but grows and matures as he ages. Also unique to him is having three "cores" (the 'heart' of a Cursed Corpse), which he can change back and forth to unlock various abilities namely a Panda, Gorilla and a Triceratops. During the Sister School Event, he defeats and bonds with Mechamaru. After grieving the death of his creator, Masamichi Yaga, Panda joins the Culling Games with Yuji and Megumi in the effort to stop it. Panda engages in a battle with Hajime Kashimo, a resurrected sorcerer from the Heian era, who manages to defeat all of his cores. Only the interference of Kinji Hakari stops Kashimo from killing Panda. After his fight with Hajime Kashimo that resulted in the destruction of his body and his other two cores, Panda appears much smaller than his original size, resembling a panda cub.

Yuta Okkotsu

Voiced by: Megumi Ogata[13] (Japanese); Kayleigh McKee[14] (English)

Yuta Okkotsu (乙骨 憂太, Okkotsu Yūta) is the protagonist of Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School (Jujutsu Kaisen 0). He was initially a Special-Grade cursed victim haunted by his childhood friend Rika Orimoto. Satoru Gojo enrolls him at Jujutsu High, where he befriends Maki, Toge, and Panda. After training, Yuta masters his Cursed Energy, becoming a skilled swordsman. Even after Rika's curse is lifted, he retains his Special-Grade status, defeating Suguru Geto and earning Gojo's praise for his potential. His Cursed Technique, Copy (模倣, Kopī), allows him to use others' techniques, and he retains a weaker version of the shikigami Rika. As a descendant of a great sorcerer clan, Yuta's immense power stems from cursing Rika in his youth.

After studying abroad, Yuta returns as Yuji Itadori's executioner following Gojo's sealing, but they soon team up to stop Kenjaku. In the Culling Games, Yuta protects civilians and defeats powerful sorcerers like Ishigori and Uro. He trains with Yuji and Kusakabe using Ui Ui's soul-switching technique and helps Todo refine his revived technique. With Todo's aid, Yuta assassinates Kenjaku, who transfers his merger authority to Sukuna. Rika devours Kenjaku's remains, allowing Yuta to use his technique.

Joining the fight against Sukuna, Yuta reveals Rika consumed Sukuna's final finger. He uses Sukuna's Cleave and his Domain Expansion, Authentic Mutual Love (真贋 相愛, Shingan Sōai), which imbues infinite blades with copied techniques. While Yuji and Rika battle Sukuna, Yuta wields multiple blades until finding one with Jacob's Ladder. Sukuna repels Yuta, cutting him in half. Barely alive, Yuta is saved by Rika and Shoko's team. He fulfills his agreement with Gojo by using Kenjaku's technique to take over Gojo's corpse, saving Yuji and Todo from Sukuna's Domain Expansion with Gojo's Hollow Purple. Exhausted, Yuta collapses but returns to his body shortly after the battle.

Kinji Hakari

Kinji Hakari (秤金次, Hakari Kinji) is a suspended third-year at Tokyo Jujutsu High. He runs an underground Sorcerer fight club. Recognized by Gojo and Yuta as potentially surpassing them, he joins Megumi and Yuji to fight Kenjaku after learning of Gojo's sealing and Yaga's death. His innate technique manipulates pachinko machine parts, and his Domain Expansion, Idle Death Gamble (坐殺 博徒, Zasatsu Bakuto), creates a train station-like environment where hitting a jackpot (1/239 chance) grants him four minutes and eleven seconds of unlimited Cursed Energy, automatic healing, and unkillable status. Using this, he defeats Hajime Kashimo and later holds off Uraume during Sukuna's battle with Gojo.

Kirara Hoshi

Kirara Hoshi (星綺羅羅, Hoshi Kirara) is a third-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High suspended for clashing with authority. While away from the school, Kirara has partnered with Hakari while running his fight club. Their Cursed Technique is Love Rendezvous (星間飛行, Rabu Randebū), a complex technique whose motif is based on the Southern Cross constellation. For someone marked with one star to approach someone marked with another star, they must follow a determined order, or else targets of the same star will attract each other. The order follows the stars from nearest to furthest distance to the Earth: Imai, Acrux, Mimosa, Ginan, and Gacrux. They agree to Megumi and Yuji's request for help, after hearing about everything that transpired at Shibuya and after. Kirara is later outside the barriers of the Culling Game serving as the provider of intel for one group.

He wields the Six Eyes (六眼, Rikugan), which minimizes Cursed Energy consumption and enhances perception, and the Limitless (無下限, Mukagen) technique, granting atomic-level control over space. Limitless includes: Infinity (無限, Mugen) (infinite slowing of incoming objects), Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue (術式 順転 蒼, Jutsushiki Junten Ao) (a converging void that crushes targets), Cursed Technique Reversal: Red (術式 反転 赫, Jutsushiki Hanten Aka) (a repelling force from reversed Cursed Energy), and Hollow Technique: Purple (虚式 茈, Kyoshiki Murasaki) (a destructive fusion of Blue and Red that annihilates matter). His Domain Expansion, Unlimited Void (無量空処, Muryōkūsho), floods targets with infinite information, immobilizing them.

Gojo's influence is immense, and he ensures Yuji Itadori's survival to consume Sukuna's fingers. He mentors Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara. Ambushed by Special Grade Cursed Spirits in Shibuya, he is sealed by Kenjaku after exorcising Hanami. Released during the Culling Games, he challenges Sukuna (in Megumi's body) to a duel, defeating Sukuna's Ten Shadows but ultimately being killed by Sukuna's World Cutting Slash. His corpse is later used by Yuta via Kenjaku's technique.

Voiced by: Mitsuo Iwata[18] (Japanese); Chris Tergliafera[19] (English)

Kiyotaka Ijichi (伊地知 潔高, Ijichi Kiyotaka) is the assistant principal of Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School. He can create curtains, a technique used to implement a barrier to separate an area from the outside. Nanami revealed that he was once training to be a sorcerer, but for unrevealed reasons, he chose to become a manager instead. He is injured by Shigemo during the events at Shibuya, but Shoko saves him and the two of them later reunite with Gojo after he is unsealed.

Voiced by: Aya Endō[18] (Japanese); Ryan Bartley[20] (English)

Shoko Ieiri (家入 硝子, Ieiri Shoko) is a doctor at Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School and former classmate of Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto. She has proven to be quite a valuable resource, being one of the few people capable of healing others with the Reverse Cursed Technique (反転 術式, Hanten Jutsushiki). Shoko is a rather serious and somber person, wants nothing more than to get her job done, and often has to stop or get in the middle of Gojo to make fun of others. She usually examines dead bodies in the school morgue and does not engage in combat, unlike the other sorcerers. After Ijichi and Ino are severely injured by curse users in Shibuya, she saves their lives, as well as Megumi's following his bout with Shigemo. During the Shinjuku Showdown, she heals many of the combatants injured by Sukuna, with Utahime, Arata and Amai's help. She also helps Yuta transplant his brain into Gojo's corpse with Kenjaku's technique.

Kento Nanami

Voiced by: Kenjiro Tsuda[21] (Japanese); David Vincent[22] (English)

Kento Nanami (七海 建人, Nanami Kento) is a Grade 1 Jujutsu Sorcerer, an alumnus of Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School, and one of Yuji's mentors. His Cursed Technique is the Ratio Technique (十劃 呪法, Tōkaku Juhō), which can divide any distance on his target into ten and forcibly create a weak spot at the ratio point of seven to three. The target's lines do not have to match up with the target's length or wingspan. Nanami can freely choose which part to divide, including the subjects, head, torso, arms, and legs. This technique is also applicable to non-living objects. Furthermore, Nanami has a Binding Vow with himself, Overtime (時間外労働, Jikangairōdō). This vow limits the amount of Cursed Energy he can utilize during the time he is officially on the clock working for Jujutsu High to 80-90% of his actual output. Once he goes beyond his normal shift and overtime hours begin, Nanami's exerts 110-120% of his maximum power.

His personality is a stark contrast to Gojo's, being stoic and serious, whereas the latter is more easygoing. As a student, he was close to his classmate Haibara and his upperclassmen Gojo, Geto and Ieiri, but he left Jujutsu high to work as a businessman after being distraught with the life of a jujutsu sorcerer, before being inspired to return. After Yuji's demise and subsequent revival at Sukuna's hands, Gojo asks Nanami to be Yuji's mentor and train him in secret. The two grow close while investigating Mahito and Junpei's case and he shows gratitude to Yuji when the latter saves him from Mahito's Domain Expansion. He was killed in front of Yuji in the Shibuya Incident by Mahito after Jogo scorched his body. His Cursed Technique was imbued was into his blunt blade cursed tool, which Ino later wields in battle against Sukuna.

Atsuya Kusakabe (日下部篤也, Kusakabe Atsuya) is a faculty member of Tokyo Jujutsu School. He teaches the second-years at Tokyo Jujutsu School. Although he does not possess an innate technique, he reached the levels of a grade 1 sorcerer using only his katana and excellent swordsmanship, specializing the New Shadow Style: Simple Domain (シン 陰流・簡易 領域, Shin Kageryū: Kan'i Ryōiki): the anti-domain technique that neutralizes a Domain Expansion's barrier and disables its sure-hit effect. He has special moves that he can use with his blade, such as the Batto Sword Drawing (抜刀), fast sword drawing technique that coats Kusakabe's blade in Cursed Energy and rotates it around the blade to increase its drawing speed dramatically; and Evening Moon Sword Drawing (居合・夕月, Iai Yūzuki), which activates a Simple Domain, inside which Kusakabe's Cursed Energy output is increased while cursed techniques that intrude into it are slightly weakened. By incorporating an original program into the Simple Domain, Kusakabe can automatically intercept anything that enters the Simple Domain with his katana. It is implied that he is the mentor of Kasumi Miwa as she has the same skillset as him. While in Shibuya, he witnesses the terrifying strength Sukuna possesses and is initially turned against Itadori. With Yaga and the rest of the students' support, he accepts Yuji and joins the group effort against Kenjaku and later Sukuna. During the Shinjuku Showdown, he faces off against Sukuna as well, and inflicts great damage with his Simple Domain expertise, before being critically injured and rescued by Ui Ui and Miguel.

Masamichi Yaga

Voiced by: Takaya Kuroda[18] (Japanese); Keith Silverstein[27] (English)

Masamichi Yaga (夜蛾 正道, Yaga Masamichi) is the Principal of Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School, the creator/father of Panda, and the teacher of Gojo, Geto, and Ieiri. His Cursed Technique, Cursed Corpse (呪骸, Juga), allows him to animate and control dolls called cursed corpses. His technique has immense potential, as he could have created a cursed corpse army and control it for his own designs if he wanted to, this fact being kept secret from the higher-ups by both him and Gakuganji. Yaga accepts Yuji Itadori in the institute only after being convinced that he knows exactly what he is getting into and supports Gojo in opposing the superiors who want Itadori dead. Most of his appearances involve him having to deal with their escapades. After the events that transpire at Shibuya on October 31, the higher-ups hold him responsible for the carnage, and he is sentenced to death, which Gakuganji carries out.

Aoi Todo

Voiced by: Subaru Kimura[18] (Japanese); Xander Mobus[28] (English)

Aoi Todo (東堂 葵, Tōdō Aoi) is a third-year Sorcerer of Kyoto Prefectural Jujutsu High School. He is quite solid in hand-to-hand combat, defeating five Grade 1 Cursed Spirits and 1 Special Grade during an attack in Kyoto. He can apply a flash coating of Cursed Energy to his body for defence. Todo also dislikes anything boring due to his mundane past as a result of his incredible strength. He usually asks his opponent what his type is in women. He believes Yuji Itadori to be his brother and that they went to the same middle school. He also taught Yuji how to control his Cursed Energy. He helps Yuji fight Mahito during the Shibuya Incident, though he loses an arm, which prevents him from ever using his technique, Boogie Woogie (不義 遊戯, Bugi Ugi), again. Eventually, Todo is able to revive his technique using a Binding Vow to change its activation condition from clapping, to hitting a vibraslap attached to his severed arm. This actually greatly augments his switching abilities, as he can swap multiple targets over fifty times per second, equivalent to the vibration within the instrument. During the Shinjuku Showdown, he first helps Takaba and Yuta eliminate Kenjaku, by switching the latter two. Later on, he joins Yuji in battle against Sukuna, raising his spirits after the loss of Choso. Not even Sukuna is capable of adapting to Boogie Woogie, as he is overwhelmed by the amount of switching, which makes Sukuna resort to a Domain Expansion to counter Todo and Yuji. Luckily, Yuta in Gojo's body steps in to block Sukuna's domain with his own. Following the domain clash and a Hollow Purple to hurt Sukuna, Todo supports Yuji in his assault more, before switching in Angel to use Jacob's Ladder again. While Sukuna narrowly manages to reach Angel's level, Todo jumps in front of them to take Sukuna's Black Flash, earning the respect of the King of Curses as he is knocked out.

Voiced by: Marina Inoue[18] (Japanese); Laura Post[29] (English)

Mai Zen'in (禪院 真依, Zen'in Mai) is a second-year Sorcerer of Kyoto Prefectural Jujutsu High School. She detests her twin sister Maki after the latter leaves her and their clan to study to become a Jujutsu Sorcerer. Compared to Maki, who possesses no Cursed Energy at all, Mai possesses a Cursed Technique, albeit possessing a low amount of Cursed Energy. An expert markswoman, she primarily uses a revolver infused with Cursed Energy to take out Curses or other Sorcerers. Her technique, which is kept as a secret for strategic purposes, is Construction (構築術式, Kōchiku Jutsushiki), allows her to materialize objects out of Cursed Energy. The process exhausts her quickly. After Gojo is sealed at Shibuya, she is fatally wounded by her father and in her last moments used the most of her remaining Cursed Energy to create a replica of Toji Fushiguro's Split Soul Katana, to which she gave to Maki to destroy the Zen'in Clan. The sword also serves as the last connection between the two sisters.

She often calls herself "useless Miwa". During the Shibuya Incident, she learns of Muta's actions and subsequent demise at the hands of Mahito, and mourns him after realizing, that she had feelings for him as well. After the Shibuya Incident, she appears at one of the Culling Game colonies and later saves Maki from Sukuna's Domain Expansion as well during the Shinjuku Showdown. Kusakabe revealed that due to a Binding Vow she accidentally made with herself when attacking Kenjaku, Miwa cannot use a katana anymore.

Although he is an illegitimate child, he becomes the next heir of the Kamo clan as he inherits the Blood Manipulation (赤血 操術, Sekketsu Sōjutsu) Technique of his clan. His main weapon of choice is a bow, and his arrows are dipped in his blood to control their direction. After the Shibuya Incident, Kenjaku, having resumed his role as the original Noritoshi Kamo, exiles Kamo from his clan, who then joins Maki in one of the Culling Games colonies along with Momo. While patrolling the colony with Maki, the two of them are attacked by the special grade cursed spirit born from Naoya Zen'in and his desire for revenge against Maki. When the spirit manages to wound Maki, Kamo takes it upon himself to hold Naoya off until she can heal up and exorcise it, even at the cost of his own life, should it come to it. Although he survives this order and later helps Choso teach Yuji Blood Manipulation techniques, he decides to remove himself from the battle against Kenjaku and Sukuna, preferring to find his family.

Utahime Iori

Voiced by: Yoko Hikasa[31] (Japanese); Tara Sands[32] (English)

Utahime Iori (庵 歌姫, Iori Utahime) is a Semi-Grade 1 Jujutsu Sorcerer and one of the teachers of Kyoto Prefectural Jujutsu High School. While she is usually very polite and reserved, the mere sight of Gojo is enough to make her blood boil, as he often teases her for being weak. Secretly, she works with Gojo to find out who the mole in the school is. Her investigation reveals that Muta was the mole, though he has already been killed. Her Cursed Technique, Solo Forbidden Area (単独 禁区, Soro Soro Kinku), temporarily amplifies the Cursed Energy of any willing sorcerer within range, including herself. This technique's effect can be elevated into a ritual using incantations, hand signs, dance, and music. By including all of these steps, the technique's effectiveness can be raised to 120 percent, which she then applies to Gojo during his fight against Sukuna in Shinjuku, and later to Shoko so she could heal others better.

During the Shinjuku Showdown, Ino participates in the group battle against Sukuna, using Nanami's cursed tool, which was imbued with his Ratio technique.

Mei Mei is known to have questionable morals and a materialistic personality, and she only cares about which side has more money which she openly admits. During Halloween and Shibuya, she and her brother Ui Ui run into Kenjaku after splitting from Itadori, and after dispatching a special grade cursed spirit called the Smallpox Deity, are forced to escape by Kenjaku. Mei Mei exchanges her fortune into foreign currency and lays low in Malaysia before eventually returning with her brother to eliminate Kenjaku and Sukuna.

Yuki has a habit of asking men she meets what type of girls they like, a habit Todo adopted. After the Shibuya Incident, she shows up to help, volunteering to guard Master Tengen. Towards the end of the Culling Games, when Kenjaku shows up to absorb Tengen, she and Choso go all-out to force Kenjaku to reveal their own Curse Technique and not rely on Geto's, though Tengen warns her not to use her own Domain Expansion against Kenjaku. Ui Ui

Voiced by: Yūko Sanpei[44] (Japanese); Sarah Anne Williams[45] (English)

Ui Ui (憂憂) is the younger brother of Mei Mei, whom he greatly admires. As a member of a sorcerer clan, he possesses great skills as a sorcerer even in his young age. Ui Ui is deeply loyal to his sister, allowing himself to be put in dangerous situations for her. Ui Ui's Cursed Technique is the spatial transference of "targets" that allows him to teleport himself and others with him to locations and people he has marked. His technique also allowed him to act as a liaison along with Maki Zenin during the Culling Game, and allowed the jujutsu sorcerers to recover the bodies of deceased or downed sorcerers during the fight with Sukuna. Also, if Ui Ui's target is a person, the technique targets their body and soul altogether. His technique is unable to target only the soul unless given permission, which allows him to switch the souls of his marked targets without changing the shapes of the bodies, unlike Mahito's Idle Transfiguration, though this application of Ui Ui's technique can only be used twice per person in a month.

Tengen

Tengen (天元) is an immortal Jujutsu Sorcerer that remains within the Tombs of the Star Corridor at all times to reinforce the barriers that protect both Jujutsu High locations. Tengen is responsible for preaching the foundation of Jujutsu Sorcerers and spawning religious groups that worship them as their deity. They have no problems with aging, but they must restore their body every five hundred years by merging with a specific human (referred to as a "Star Plasma Vessel") to prevent their technique from making it evolve beyond humanity and into a potentially dangerous state. Tengen lies at the heart of Kenjaku's plan, as Kenjaku plans to merge Tengen with all of humanity, forcing the evolution of humanity. After Yuki and Choso's defeat at the hands of Kenjaku, Tengen is seized by the latter and forcefully made part of his merger, the end goal of the Culling Games. Following Kenjaku's demise, Tengen's soul is transferred to Sukuna.

This technique made Naobito the fastest sorcerer after Gojo. Naobito is always seen drinking, even in serious situations like in Shibuya. Though when it comes to a fight, he is ecstatic especially facing a powerful opponent. He was confident in his abilities enough to fight the Special Grade curse, Dagon - even while they were trapped in his Domain Expansion. Naoya looks down on the weak, and only sees women as objects - he was particularly harassing his cousin, Maki Zen'in when they were younger, believing her attitude to be inappropriate for a woman. He began hunting Yuji, when he was wanted for execution, but relented once Yuta arrived to execute Itadori. Later, he was defeated by Maki during her onslaught and finished off by her non-sorcerer mother which led Naoya to become a Vengeful Cursed Spirit. Not being able to accept his defeat against Maki, the Vengeful Cursed Spirit of Naoya entered the Culling Games as a player. His Cursed Technique is proven to be more powerful with his new body and is now capable of flight. Later on, he used his Domain Expansion, Time Cell Moon Palace (時胞月宮殿, Jihō Gekkyūden) to finish off Maki, but to her special circumstances, she was unaffected by it and he was slain by her once more.

He sees them as failures for not having talent in Jujutsu and even does not hesitate to attack his own children fatally. His Cursed Technique is Blazing Courage (焦眉之赳, Shōbi no Kyū), which allows the user to eject flames from their weapon. He died from the injuries he gained from using his technique in extreme measures.

Chojuro Zen'in

Chojuro Zen'in (禪院長寿郎, Zen'in Chōjurō) is an old and short man of the clan's elite unit of Jujutsu Sorcerers, the Hei, led by Naoya Zen'in. His Cursed Technique allows him to manipulate the earth and create giant stone arms from the ground. He was easily killed by Maki.

He and his unit were all killed by Maki.

Ogi's wife

Ogi's wife is the mother of Maki and Mai Zen'in. As a servant of the Zen'in Clan, she is not shown to speak or even walk alongside the male members of the clan. She expressed her disappointment to Maki, but in her final moments, it is revealed she is glad she gave birth to her daughters.

Voiced by: Junichi Suwabe[47] (Japanese); Ray Chase[8] (English)

Ryomen Sukuna (両面宿儺, Ryōmen Sukuna, "Double-Faced Spectre"), the "King of Curses," is an ancient sorcerer from the Heian period who reincarnated in the present day. Originally a mutated human, he transformed into a cursed object—20 indestructible fingers—to traverse time and possess suitable vessels. His Cursed Technique, Shrine (御厨子, Mizushi), includes Dismantle (, Kai) (slashes for inanimate objects or enemies) and Cleave (, Hachi) (adaptive slashes requiring physical contact), followed by Divine Flame (, Kamino) for fire attacks. His Domain Expansion, Malevolent Shrine (伏魔 御厨子, Fukuma Mizushi), unleashes relentless slashes in a 200-meter radius without a barrier, thanks to a binding vow allowing escape.

Sukuna resides in Yuji Itadori's body, marked by tattoos and extra eyes when in control. After Yuji consumes 10 fingers in Shibuya, Sukuna massacres civilians and battles Mahoraga. Later, he transfers to Megumi Fushiguro's body, kills Tsumiki (possessed by Yorozu), and defeats Satoru Gojo in a duel. Fully reincarnated, he easily overpowers Kashimo but is gradually worn down by a coalition of sorcerers, including Yuji, Yuta, and Maki. Megumi resists him, and Nobara's Resonance stuns Sukuna, allowing Yuji to deliver a final Black Flash. Reduced to a blob, Sukuna disintegrates after refusing Yuji's offer of redemption.

Kenjaku

Kenjaku (羂索) is an ancient sorcerer. He orchestrated the Shibuya Incident and Culling Game to recreate the Heian era in modern Japan. Initially appearing as the deceased Suguru Geto, he is actually a brain-like entity that transfers between hosts, retaining their Cursed Techniques, such as Geto's Cursed Spirit Manipulation and Kaori Itadori's Antigravity. He manipulated Mahito's group and used Noritoshi Kamo's body to create the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings. During the Culling Games, he resumed his Kamo identity, exiled the current clan head, and attempted to absorb Tengen. After a fierce battle with Yuki Tsukumo and Choso, he killed Yuki and fled with her research. Later, Takaba engaged him in a reality-warped fight, allowing Yuta to decapitate him. Before dying, Kenjaku added a rule enabling Megumi (possessed by Sukuna) to start the merger. Yuta used Kenjaku's brain transfer technique to possess Gojo's corpse to fight Sukuna. Post-battle, Geto appears with Takaba, but it is unclear if it is Kenjaku or Geto.

He was sent on the mission to the Sister School Event as a distraction by Uraume, and later to murder Jujutsu School Managers in Shibuya, starting with stabbing Ijichi. After killing multiple managers and fighting Nobara, he is found by Nanami, who savagely beats him down for what he did to Ijichi and the other managers. Portrayed by: Nagi Murata [ja] (2024 PV)[53]

Suguru Geto (夏油 傑, Getō Suguru) is a Special Grade Jujutsu Sorcerer and former classmate of Gojo and Shoko, and thus a student of Yaga. His Cursed Technique, Cursed Spirit Manipulation (呪霊 操術, Jurei Sōjutsu) allows him to absorb and control naturally occurring cursed spirits and use them for combat, though if the cursed spirits are stronger than Grade 2, they need to be beaten first, or if they have a contracted master-subordinate relationship, their master must be killed first. His maximum technique, Maximum: Uzumaki (極ノ番 うずまき, Gokunoban Uzumaki) allows Geto to combine a massive number of collected curses into one powerful attack, after which, the cursed techniques of cursed spirits that are Grade 1 and above, get extracted and he would then be able to use them once, though Geto is not the one to realize this technique extraction side effect of his maximum technique. During his time at Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High, Geto was an excellent student, as well as considered to be the strongest along with Gojo. After the Star Plasma Vessel mission failed, he developed a strong hatred for people without magical powers to the point of wanting to exterminate them all to give life to a world of sorcerers only, an act that, according to him, it would prevent the creation of cursed spirits and consequently end the cycle in which all sorcerers are trapped. He is later confirmed to have been severely wounded by Yuta and finished off by Gojo at the end of Volume 0, leaving his body free to be possessed by the ancient evil sorcerer, Kenjaku, who would then take on Geto's identity. After the final battle, he is seen alive with Takaba, although whether he has returned to his own body or if Kenjaku is still in possession in it is unknown.

Besides being proficient with Curse Tool, he has a Cursed Technique called Prayer Song (祈祷の歌ハクナ・ラーナ, Hakuna Rāna), which helps his body gain a rhythm in order to enhance it and better dodge attacks. Due to some convincing from his student Yuta and Gojo, Miguel also joins in the battle against Sukuna, saving Ui Ui and Kusakabe, while also distracting Sukuna, so Yuji and Choso could take advantage of it.

Larue

While affected, the target's pupils change into heart shapes. The imaginary hand will restore itself even if it is destroyed, but 1/10 of the damage will be redirected back to Larue. He was an ally of Geto, but after his death the group parted ways. Larue later works alongside Yuki Tsukumo and later helps Miguel fight Sukuna, after Yuta convinces them. Larue successfully distracts Sukuna, allowing Yuji to land Black Flashes on him, before being taken away from the fight by Miguel, due to being hit by Sukuna's Black Flash as well.

Rika Orimoto (折本 里香, Orimoto Rika), known as the Queen of Curses, was once a normal young girl that turned into a Special Grade Vengeful Cursed Spirit after dying from a car accident to which Yuta witnessed. The two were childhood friends and promised each other they would get married when they got older with a silver band that was once Rika's grandmother's ring. Even as a Curse Spirit, Rika's love for Yuta was still strong enough that she would manifest to protect him from danger. In Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Rika contains an almost infinite amount of Cursed Energy that Yuta can harness, and also shows great feats of physical strength. Because of these abilities, Suguru Geto sought Rika as a target for his Curse Spirit Manipulation Technique as he believes she is the key to forging the world he envisions. After the curse on Rika was lifted, she bids Yuta goodbye and departs to the afterlife. Yuta is still able to use the powers and abilities of the shikigami Rika, albeit on a weaker level.

Mahito

Voiced by: Nobunaga Shimazaki[18] (Japanese); Lucien Dodge[58] (English)

Mahito (真人) is a high-grade humanoid curse born from human hatred, whose goal is to exterminate the human race. He is sadistic, immature, and loves to play with human emotions, even when his life is in danger. He believes life has no value or meaning; therefore, everyone should do what they want. This mentality seems to stem from Mahito's Cursed Technique Idle Transfiguration (無為 転変, Mui Tenpen) with which he can perceive and manipulate souls, which makes him see the soul (and, by extension, the heart) as nothing more than an object. His cursed technique allows him to manipulate the soul of himself and others by changing the body's shape, thus enabling him to transfigure the bodies of his victims by turning them into disfigured creatures at his service. During his battle with Yuji and Nanami after he murdered Junpei, he is pushed to the limit by the duo and awakens his Domain Expansion, Self-Embodiment of Perfection (自閉 円頓裹, Jihei Endonka), which removes the need to touch their opponent, as their souls are immediately touched and ready to be transfigured, while inside the domain. During the Shibuya Incident, he murders Kōkichi Muta and Kento Nanami, and severely disfigures Nobara Kugisaki and Aoi Todo, though with the latter two's support, Yuji is able to beat him into submission. At the end of the incident, however, Kenjaku absorbs him through Geto's Curse Technique and uses Mahito's technique on thousands of people he marked ahead of time, to transfigure their brains and activating their techniques like Mahito did Junpei's, in preparation for the Culling Game.

Jogo

Voiced by: Shigeru Chiba[18] (Japanese); Michael Sorich[59] (English)

Jogo (漏瑚, Jōgo) is a Special Grade Cursed Spirit born from the negative emotions associated with volcanoes. Using his cursed power, he can create mini volcanoes, which generate and control extremely powerful fire eruptions, capable of destroying everything in their path. He also has a Domain Expansion, Coffin of the Iron Mountain (蓋棺 鉄囲山, Gaikan Tecchisen), which constructs the inside of a volcano, that he can manipulate at will. Even an average sorcerer would burn up on impact. His Maximum technique, Maximum: Meteor (極ノの番 隕, Goku no ban: In), with which he generates a gigantic flaming meteor that he could hurl at his target. Jogo has immense pride as a cursed spirit and a passionate hatred of humans, convinced that cursed spirits are the true form of humanity as they represent pure truths of life such as hatred, while human beings feign so many positive emotions that they are false beings that should be exterminated. His pride makes him numb toward humans and casually kills them, but it also leads to overconfidence. Despite warnings that his entire group could not kill Satoru, Jogo attempted to defeat him in a single fight and was completely overwhelmed. During the Shibuya Incident, he tries to convince the rampaging Sukuna to join their ranks after severely burning Nanami and Maki and killing Naobito Zen'in. Nevertheless, Sukuna utilizes his own fire-based attacks and effortlessly exterminates the cursed spirit, though not before congratulating him for fighting and dying with dignity.

Out of the four Special Grade Cursed Spirits, Dagon appears to be the weakest and the least hostile, but as it turns out, he was only a Cursed Womb. Geto and the Special Grades use his Innate Domain as the meeting grounds for their briefings. He fully developed into a form similar to Cthulhu in Shibuya after eating hundreds of people in the subway. He deeply cares for Hanami, Jogo and Mahito, treating them as family and was enraged when hearing of Hanami's death. His cursed power allows him to manifest water out of his mouth, completely flooding the subways of Shibuya, but what makes him an even deadlier opponent is his Domain Expansion Horizon of the Captivating Skandha (蕩蘊 平線, Tau'un Heisen), which traps his victims on a tropical beach swarming with carnivorous fish shikigami. He was able to gravely wound two Grade 1 Sorcerers, Naobito Zen'in and Kento Nanami, but was later exorcised by a reanimated Toji Fushiguro.

Hanami (花御) is a Special Grade Cursed Spirit born of humanity's negative treatment towards the forests—to which Gojo reveals that Hanami may be more closer to a natural spirit than a cursed spirit. They believe humans have gone too long in ruining Earth's environment and want to allow the planet to shine again without human cruelty. Their Cursed Technique allows them to create plants that they can manipulate, including draining their life force and storing it in the flower on their left shoulder as Cursed Energy. They also possess a Domain Expansion called Shining Sea of Growing Branches (朶頤 光海, Dai Kōkai), which they normally use in tandem with their fully charged left arm, but the use of this against Yuji and Todo was prevented by Gojo. During the Shibuya Incident, they are a part of the team of Special Grades that ambush Gojo, though Gojo exorcises them by crushing them into a corner with Infinity before he can be sealed.

Cursed Womb: Death Paintings

Small human-like fetuses with the mixed blood of both a human and a Cursed Spirit, created by Kenjaku 150 years ago after forcing a woman with a special genetic composition to bear half-human, half-curse children from having nine pregnancies and nine abortions. When ingested by any human, a Death Painting Womb can incarnate into a full half-human half-Cursed Spirit hybrid capable of using Jujutsu, which can be anyone, even a human with zero innate talent or the potential to become a sorcerer. Fully incarnated Death Painting Wombs are considered on the level of a Special-Grade Cursed spirit. Due to their flesh and blood bodies, these beings can be seen by normal humans, and even sorcerers can have trouble telling whether they are cursed spirits or curse users. Unlike cursed spirits, their bodies do not disappear after death.

His Blood Manipulation (赤血 操術, Sekketsu Sōjutsu) technique, inherited from Kenjaku (in Noritoshi Kamo's body), is enhanced by his half-curse physiology, allowing him to convert Cursed Energy into blood, bypassing human limitations. Initially allied with Kenjaku, he fought alongside Hanami, Jogo, and Mahito in Shibuya to avenge his brothers, Eso and Kechizu. After targeting Yuji Itadori, he halted their battle upon realizing Yuji was his half-brother, turning against Kenjaku. When Yuji’s death sentence was reinstated post-Shibuya, Choso hid with him until Yuta and Naoya Zen'in intervened. Yuji’s "death" was a ruse to deceive the higher-ups, allowing him to live in secret. Choso later teamed with Yuki Tsukumo to protect Tengen from Kenjaku, narrowly escaping with Yuki’s research after her death. Post-Gojo’s release, Choso helped Yuji master Blood Manipulation and Reverse Cursed Technique. In the Shinjuku Showdown, he played a crucial role against Sukuna, ultimately sacrificing himself to shield Yuji from Sukuna’s Divine Flame.

Their Cursed Technique Technique Extinguishment (術式の消滅, Jutsushiki no Shōmetsu) can extinguish any Cursed Technique, making them a valuable ally to rescue Gojo out of the Prison Realm. The offensive use of this technique is Maximum Output: Jacob's Ladder (出力 最大 邪去悔の梯子, Shutsuryoku Saidai: Yakobu no Hashigo), which conjures a four-winged trumpet made of light in Hana's hands as well as an enormous circle of light in the sky above her.
