Rationale for use in Ludwig Wittgenstein
Though this image is subject to copyright, its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws, and the stricter requirements of Wikipedia's non-free content policies, because:
- It is an historically significant image of a famous individual with his almost equally famous family.
- It was taken around 1890, the photographer is unknown and deceased, and there is therefore no possibility of obtaining a release.
- It is of much lower resolution than the original, and copies made from it will be inferior.
- It is only being used for informational purposes in an article about the subject.
- It helps to bring the era to life, and the reader to see that the Wittgenstein family was privileged.
