Original caption: "A side view of the NR-1 Ryan. The aircraft was used at the station from March 1941 until late 1942. There were 100 aircraft assigned to NAS Jacksonville and they were used for primary flight training. Being under-powered, they were known as the "Flying Washing Machines" by the early students."
