English: Louise Hawkins was known to be a beautiful woman of St. Louis that captured the attention of Gen. Orville Babcock. The knick name given to her by Babcock was SYLPH whom he used as a code signature in correspondence to Col. Joyce. Babcock was indicted and put on trial for involvement in the Whiskey Ring.
