adapted from image in Boston, Massachusetts Wikipedia article; it is a Landsat program image mandated by the President of the United States and in the public domain as per NASA and NOAA. This image was edited and marked by the uploader. The original image uploaded to Wikipedia is "Boston Landsat.jpg", which was on Wikipedia and I took and modified for annotations using a computer tool back in 2008. Public domain images are free of copyright assertions. The NASA website hosts a large number of images from the Soviet/Russian space agency, and other non-American space agencies. These are not necessarily in the public domain.
The SOHO (ESA & NASA) joint project implies that all materials created by its probe are copyrighted and require permission for commercial non-educational use. [2]
