Good start

This article is very impressive abcwizsom. I have moved some of the sections around and have created links for future articles about each cultural development and invention. ~~ GoldenDragonHorn (talk) 23:42, 3 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you @GoldenDragonHorn Much appreciated!
It'll probably be a while before I can add/rearrange a lot more. Are there any other editors on this WikiProject? Might be cool to divide up the work Abcsomwiz (talk) 18:46, 4 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers. I think the list will be accepted by Timtrent if we can create brand new articles for the remaining red links, or another idea might be to remove the red ones from the article for now and create a list of red links in this talk page instead. This way you can resubmit the current list of inventions and discoveries that do have articles, and then update the list each time a new article has been created. - GoldenDragonHorn (talk) 09:30, 5 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Abcsomwiz, @Abcsomwiz, I am not the only reviewer. I always believe submission for review when ready and having a different set of eyes on the draft is a better idea all round. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 16:16, 5 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Limegreencoral and Replayerr, can you guys join this project and help turn a few of the red links into articles? Both of you are quite active on Somali and Horn related articles. - GoldenDragonHorn (talk) 00:42, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I added redirects of some of the the red links to their corresponding Wikipedia pages already existing. Also added gabay for the musical/poetry section. Limegreencoral (talk) 05:43, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It takes time to accumulate sources on certain topics, if we could organise which ones to focus on then I could help possibly. Replayerr (talk) 12:50, 9 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers. I think the English Wikipedia would also benefit if we eventually created individual articles for this platform too. I have already started on a draft for Qaraami. —GoldenDragonHorn (talk) 09:49, 9 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

That'd be great. I will try and see if I can contribute to the Qaraami page as well.
This will probably be a project that takes some time before this draft can go live but it can be done step by step.
The two I had in mind for now were a 'Somali Traditional Medicine' page to include all the old medical stuff and then a page for the Alindi cloth as well. Abcsomwiz (talk) 05:35, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I added some stuff to your Qaraami draft now Abcsomwiz (talk) 20:49, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Also as it stands, these are what I think are outstanding issues:
I don't think these entries are going to work: Sofala, Mogadishu Currency, Xeer, Somali Calendar, Abban System.
The reason is that they are not really specific inventions first done in Somalia. Perhaps there may be something that can be done with elements of the last three if supporting sources are identified.
There is currently a long list of scientists most of whom do not have an article. Should this stay as it is or should it go back to the inventions format?
The following do not currently have a page: Somali Traditional Medicine, Allindi, Somali Woodcarving, most of the Somali Dishes and Modern Somali Fusion Music Abcsomwiz (talk) 22:09, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Any entries I added can be removed if they are not suitable for the list. Unique coinage, timekeeping, Law and hospitality systems are evidence of independent parallel development, unless there is evidence that they are all direct foreign imports? Sofala, Al-Luhayyah, and other places are better suited on an exploration list. GoldenDragonHorn (talk) 12:54, 14 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, I have submitted the Qaraami article for review, good work! GoldenDragonHorn (talk) 13:00, 14 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I thought only something that is a world first or first done/known in a country could be on the list.
None of them are foreign. I just assumed the list was for things first introduced in a country/amongst a people but if it extends to independent developments, then that's cool. Abcsomwiz (talk) 16:55, 14 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The List of Japanese inventions and discoveries also features local versions of international concepts like castles or type-writers. Also, the way that article is formatted is great. - GoldenDragonHorn (talk) 18:39, 14 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome we can go with that then.
What do you think of moving some of the more recent stuff that's in the scientist and inventor sections into the thematic sections- I was thinking mainly the medicine ones for now. Abcsomwiz (talk) 19:01, 14 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, go for it 👍. — GoldenDragonHorn (talk) 22:15, 14 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look. What is needed now to get it onto the mainspace? Abcsomwiz (talk) 01:36, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Would be cool if got more eyes on it to get feedback. Are there any other relevant Wikiprojects? Abcsomwiz (talk) 02:15, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If the red article links are created and the other articles created are ok, will the list now be accepted? They said it was a 'coatrack' before Abcsomwiz (talk) 04:27, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think the current state it is in is really good. Great job! I think it has a high chance of being accepted. @Abcsomwiz Limegreencoral (talk) 14:31, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The diamond extraction invention and the leaky heart ring device garnered enough attention in the news and publications to warrant their own articles, for both the inventions and the inventors. If I have to be frank, I think the Digital/IT section would be better suited on a telecommunications article about Somalia rather than an inventions list, with the exception of Shop and the First Cashless Society entries. —GoldenDragonHorn (talk) 11:40, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I agree they are on the list that need an article.
I was following the Vietnamese list they added basically any large tech company but I agree prob best to remove the other entries. WorldRemit is a notable company though that has innovated I think it should stay. Abcsomwiz (talk) 17:43, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Did you have any other feedback on the rest of the article? Abcsomwiz (talk) 17:44, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You tackled majority of the issues, and it looks great. The Somali language is an obvious Somali invention and should be the main focus of that section, similar to how its treated on the Vietnamese list. Perhaps, a second paragraph could be about the major scholars that studied, and contributed to the language, scripts, curriculum, etc. As of now the focus is on one specific scholar. These lists work well when you know exactly what each entry is notable for. Are there specific pioneering technologies or services that WorldRemit introduced? What about the Fashion brands like Mataano? Is there anything revolutionary that we can highlight? Besides those minor issues, this is still one of the best Africa focused lists on Wikipedia — GoldenDragonHorn (talk) 19:40, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
