Comment: Promising draft, but needs a fundamental rewrite to meet WP:NPOV, and reformatting to not read like a résumé, please see: WP:BLP. Kind regards, Spinster300 (talk) 11:45, 31 March 2025 (UTC).
Comment: Many of the sources are 404 dead links and could not be verified. Some are simply name checks or are sourced to his own website. What's needed are verifiable secondary reliable sources that are fully independent from the person. Netherzone (talk) 14:46, 18 March 2025 (UTC)

Thomas Neumann (* 1975 in Cottbus) is a german Artist currently living in Düsseldorf.
Life
Neumann spent his childhood and youth in Cottbus and Königs Wusterhausen. After a stay in Leipzig, he studied from 1997 to 2004 at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf with Bernd and Hilla Becher.[1] and Thomas Ruff. He is a member of the German Society for Photography[2] and Deutscher Künstlerbund[3]
Work
Inspired by his roots in East Germany, Neumann is interested in the architectural and historical heritage of the communist Eastern Bloc. His series “homo sovieticus” (1998–2002), “Pictures from Utopia” (2003–2005),[4] “Unbuilt City” (2007), „1984 News from Utopia“ (2003), and „Sternenflug und Apfelblüte“ (2013) were created in this context.
As a curator, Neumann organized the “Congress of Futurologists” project, which took place in 2007 and 2008 in the socialist planned cities Eisenhüttenstadt and Dunaújváros.[5] With “Monument for a City” (2006), Neumann began his work on large-scale installations that combine photography and sculpture. He won the Bergischer Kunstpreis 2010 for the installation “Ghosts” (2009).[6].
Influenced by a two-year stay in Japan, Neumann became interested in landscape photography. This was followed by the series of works “Mori” (from 2012) and “Ishi” (from 2013),[7] which were part of Neumanns monograph „The Japanese Series“ (2015)[8] In response to the triple disaster in Fukushima 2011, he published the book “Märztage 三月日記” by Revolver Publishing. [9] For the 10th anniversary, he organized a Fukushima Memorial 2021 project with a reading performance of his book.[10]
The exhibition “Exakte Vertrauensgrenzen (Exact Confidence Limits )” took place in the “Weltkunstzimmer” in Düsseldorf in 2020.[11] A monograph of the same title was published by Hatje Cantz Verlag with contributions by Karl Schlögel, Durs Grünbein and Gabriele Muschter/Uwe Warnke.
In the 2021 initiated project “The Oak from Schlossplatz Berlin,” Neumann's interest in history and his view of nature come together. Using historical and contemporary photographs, the artist tells the story of an Oak that was planted on garden land next to the Schleusen Bridge after the inauguration of the National Kaiser Wilhelm Monument in 1897. As a visual archaeologist, Thomas Neumann traces this tree in 20th century Berlin photography in more than 60 archives, libraries and collections. As a side actor in the photos of the events surrounding the political Mitte of Berlin, the oak is now introduced as the main character in his artistic project.[12] In October 2024 there was a site-specific projection of Neumanns work on the ground of former Bauakademie.[13]
