History
Thakurbari was constructed at Dhanchhuhan in 1898 AD as a private temple by heirs of Kunjbihari Rai: Lalji Rai, Nehora Rai, and Shivsharan Rai on ancestral and purchased land at the request of Rajpati Kunwar, wife of Nathasahay Rai (son of Shivsharan Rai).
Lalji Rai was the first managing director of the Thakurbari throughout his life until 1936 AD. After his passing, Rajpati Kunwar managed the temple until her demise in 1956 AD. Thereafter, Brijbilas Rai became the first Mahant, serving throughout his life until Vaishakh Shukla Navami, 1964 AD. His period is considered the "Golden Era" of Thakurbari.
Udhav Rai succeeded as the second Mahant and remained in service until April 10, 1999. Presently, Mahant Vaman Bhagwan is the temple’s managing director. Reconstruction of the temple is currently in progress.
