Delete mojibake. Gorobay (talk) 20:16, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
- Delete all Gorobay is exactly right, techno-bug gobbledygook. Oiyarbepsy (talk) 06:53, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
- Delete all, we should not have redirects from every possible encoding error. I wonder if there may be a technical preventive solution to minimize these... - Nabla (talk) 22:49, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
- Delete all as above.
- I would have thought it would be possible to have an algorithm that just does a simple double-check:
- Does it look like mojibake (characteristics TBD)
- If so, attempt to decode it.
- If sucessful, re-encode it as mojibake. Is it the same?
- If yes, then it's a mojibake redirect. Mark as
{{R from mojibake}}

- If sucessful, re-encode it as mojibake. Is it the same?
- However, the candidate set would be rather large if run over the existing set of Rs. Since I think mojibake is restricted to UTF-8 encoding, one of the first hurdles is to decide not "is this UTF-8 encoding" but "is this mojibake"? HOwever I presume by the time it gets to WP the UTF-8 encoding is in some sense "lost" since now we are in the abstract world of code points and not encodings.
- I would have thought it would be possible to have an algorithm that just does a simple double-check:
- I am not sure what "Looks like mojibake" would be as an heuristic, but we have similar heuristics for trying to descide what natural language something is written in. Ruby has NKF.guess for example, and that may hold some clues. I think it's a job for Wikimedia. I'd then throw them in a category (i.e. Category:Redirects from mojibake) since I can't see a tool has the remit to speedy delete them. Si Trew (talk) 10:46, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
