Baptiste (Overwatch) [53] [54] [55] [56]
Since his introduction, Baptiste has been praised as a character. Brando Simeo Starkey in an article for Andscape praised how well Overwatch represented black male characters, and felt of them Baptiste as "perhaps the most alluring" and "perhaps most culturally significant" due to his Haitian heritage and use of language. He emphasized that the culture tended to be overlooked in video game, and illustrated the importance of children being able to see themselves in such characters.[1] Guilherme Pedrosa Carvalho de Araújo and Gleislla Soares Monteiro in the Brazilian journal Revista Sistemas e Mídias Digitais praised the character's departure from typical portrayals of black and latino men in video games, the latter of which they felt were often shown to try and better the world through violence. In contrast, they emphasized that Baptiste was not only portrayed as a medic but also a brave warrior with a good heart, and someone willing to stand by his ideals.[2]
