The "Congress" Or the "INC"

Hello everyone. When referring to the Indian National Congress in the article, can someone help me with out of the "Congress" and the "INC", which one to use? Although both terms are grammatically correct, but it's important to maintain consistency within a single piece of writing. Please help. Thanks in advance.-25 CENTS VICTORIOUS 🍁 17:03, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Congress is widely referred for Indian National Congress in India. ZDRX (User) | (Contact) 12:02, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. I wanted to confirm with out of the "Congress" and the "INC", which one to use here in the article.-25 CENTS VICTORIOUS 🍁 16:19, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Political position sources

I've found the following issues in the infobox for the political position parameter, can someone take a look?

  1. The NCERT source is a government publication meant for schools, can government publications be considered reliable especially when they may have oversimplified stuff for school students?
  2. Above citation is also broken perhaps because the NCERT has withdrawn the lesson or something. I found this archive.org link https://web.archive.org/web/20240817212207/https://ncert.nic.in/textbook/pdf/jess406.pdf, someone will need to put it in since I don't really know how to do that.
  3. The Inside India Today (Routledge Revivals) source is from 1976, I doubt it can be considered relevant to the current state of the INC and worth mentioning given its age.

Hello @Tube of Light The INC's political position has already been discussed in the past. I do not feel we need to drag the same topic again and again. Thank you.-25 CENTS VICTORIOUS 🍁 16:15, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
But as far as I can see it has been discussed only once and another person posted a section that went unanswered, [1] says it should be centre to centre-left, and [2] says it should be centre-left. You also did not acknowledge my concerns about the potentially biased government source and the potentially outdated source. There is a third source (Lowell Barrington (2009). Comparative Politics: Structures and Choices), but I can't personally verify it. Tube·of·Light 16:29, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Party is "Big Tent", There is no point in mentioning centre-left as the party has also shown centre-right many times. ZDRX (User) | (Contact) 04:08, 14 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

What should the political position/positions in the infobox be?

What should the political position/positions in the infobox be? I'm bringing this up again as the subject has arisen again by another editor without a clear resolution. Please see Talk:Indian National Congress/Archive 5#Centre to centre-left, Talk:Indian National Congress/Archive 5#RFC Political position and Talk:Indian National Congress#Political position sources for prior discussions. Helper201 (talk) 20:28, 14 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Centre to centre-left. We have sources already in the infobox for centre and here are seven for centre-left:

  • Comment (summoned by bot). Infoboxes work best when the information is brief, and easily consumable without needing additional nuance or explanation. Controversial statements generally don't belong in infoboxes, because there isn't space to explain them properly. However, this seems like less of a controversy, and more about how to produce the best summary. I think "centre" is a decent summary of "centre to centre-left", for the purpose of the infobox. It also aligns to the weight given in the lead. Barnards.tar.gz (talk) 10:51, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Centre There is no point in discussing this again. The sources above are from foreign media, published by their respective writers. The country's own national education system (refer to [3]) and other sources, including the party's own website [4], state that the party is centrist.
ZDRX (User) | (Contact) 07:20, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @ZDRX, exactly my point. INC is a centrist party, and credible sources have been provided. I'm not sure why similar discussions are being pushed again and again to change it to centre-left.-25 CENTS VICTORIOUS 🍁 13:57, 18 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Because plenty of reliable sources define the INC as centre-left. Helper201 (talk) 01:54, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
These websites cannot define ideology, secondly most of them are foreign, and party's own website stating party as "Big Tent" and "Centrist". During 2008 vote of confidence in the Manmohan Singh ministry UPA made a claim that "left" is not our ideology because its foreign ideology, our ideology is based on Gandhian principles.[5] ZDRX (User) | (Contact) 04:18, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE and WP:CATV

Per MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE and WP:CATV, elements in the infobox and categories should be described and verified by sources in the article body. This is not true for Social democracy under the ideology section of the infobox or the social democratic party category. I also noticed that Economic liberalism was commented out by an editor with the comment "on hold", but there is no active, relevant discussion on this talk page.
