Well, I see that La Rochelle is traditionally a haven whence French sailors set out, but is there a specific reason that La Rochelle was chosen? Also, while I see that this erstwhile particular church may not be large enough to have its own bishop, still it is rather far away from the Continent and not even a part of France proper in the sense that, say, Gouadeloupe, La Réunion or now Mayotte are.
