Aryal (also written as Arjel,Arjyal, Ariyal) is a Nepali surname. Aryal belongs to the Atreya gotra, as such they are believed to be the descendants of Sage Atreya.[1] In Hinduism, Varaha (Nepali: वराह) is the deity of the Aryal clan.[2] Aryals played an important role during unification of Nepal. They were the Upadhyayas who worked as astrologers, where they were also known as Jyotishi or Jaisi. Aryal is a part of Thar ghar of Gorkha Kingdom.
