This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Africa. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Africa|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Africa. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

- Delete – it is purely promotional and a COI. Phrases like Ghirmay's entrepreneurial journey has earned him recognitions such as a Top 10 finalist in the 2021 Africa's Business Heroes (ABH) competition, an initiative by the Jack Ma Foundation speak for themselves. I took the courtesy of removing unsupported claims. - Delete. As noted at AN/I, I would have supported a speedy keep given the transparently disruptive nomination, but now that Loewstisch has offered a good-faith delete !vote that option is off the table. Evaluating the sources, I see The BBC piece is a profile of the company, not the subject of the article. Other sources are Q&A interviews ([1], trivial mentions ([2], [3], [4]), and a press release ([5]). This Quartz piece (reposted here) is as close as we get to WP:GNG-qualifying WP:SIGCOV, but we'd need to see more. However, given the disruptive activities of the nominator, I would urge the closer to weigh the nomination and IP !votes lightly. Dclemens1971 (talk) 20:44, 26 February 2025 (UTC)

- Keep based on WP:NEXIST, with a possibility for procedural keep. Context for procedural keep: Over 45 articles all in the same narrow topic (Olympic-level track and field competitors) have been brought to AfD or PRODed this month, as compared to a typical one or two per week otherwise. It takes significant effort to do a complete source search for each of these, most of which aren't in English and are from the pre-Internet era from countries that have not digitized their national archives yet. If a sweeping argument should be made, then make that as a mass nomination, but otherwise these need to be more spread out. Having this many individual AfDs open at once about these historical figures notoriously difficult to research sets up an insurmountable task.
- NEXIST rationale: Malawian newspapers from the 1970s haven't been checked yet, we would expect coverage because Nkopeka was the first ever Olympic athletics competitor from Malawi alongside two others, and the only of those three to qualify in two events. Other avenue for sourcing: Per Bill Mallon's research, subject posted much better marks than his Olympic performance at some other athletics event in 1973. What was the name of that event, and is there additional coverage in connection with it? It's not listed by Tilastopaja, but online athletics databases have scarce coverage before the 1990s. --Habst (talk) 16:02, 25 February 2025 (UTC)

This article doesn't provide evidence of a formal declaration of war between Portugal and Algiers, nor does the peace treaty describe an end to the supposed war. - Merge to Barbary–Portuguese conflicts. A quick look at the sources does not use "war" and certainly not "Portuguese–Algerian War", so this title is inappropriate original research deserving of a WP:TROUT. It's not clear to me that naval battles in 1796 should be tied to the capture of a trade ship in 1810 like this. The main source describes "Algerian-Portuguese relations during the Ottoman period", but not an ongoing or specific war between these dates, but rather a series of confrontations. - If Raïs Hamidou had been involved in this purported war, it would be in many history books, including xyr biographies. It is not. Rather, Hamidou's biographies (e.g. Cory 2012, p. 11 ) generally portray xem as the last hurrah of the corsairs, a problem for European states that stretched over many centuries. Reading the Fkair source, that's what Fkair is actually saying too. Fkair starts the narrative way back in the 15th century, passing through the Battle of Mers-el-Kébir (1501) along the way (p.235), and the idea that there's some 1790–1813 "war" is being cherrypicked out of a source that talks about how "Ces affrontements avaient un peu diminué au cours des dix-septième siècle et les deux premiers tiers du XVIIIe siècle." (p.237) and doesn't even have the year 1790 mentioned. Far from being well-sourced, this is misrepresenting its major source to synthesize a primarily fictional view of history. This is original research. Delete. Uncle G (talk) 17:33, 22 February 2025 (UTC)

- Delete appears to be WP:OR. Being immediately confronted by a 1685 picture to illustrate a supposed event beginning in 1790 should raise some concerns. The key text supporting the article, Adelkader Fkair's "Les Relations Algero-Portugaise Pendant La Periode Ottomane", makes no mention whatsover of a "war" beginning in 1790. There is discussion of contestation over Mediterranean hegemony and passage through the Gibraltar Strait. The is discussion over ongoing maritime skirmishes and acts of piracy, which diminish in the first two thirds of the 18th Century (as quoted above) but which then escalate (a "dangerous escalation", but no "war") in the last third of the 18th Century and first decade of the 19th following the peace treaty between Spain and Algers ("Elle devenait une escalade dangereuse dans le dernier tiers du XVIIIe siècle, et la première décennie du XIXe siècle, surtout après la conclusion du traité entre l'Algérie et l'Espagne en 1786" p.237). There is discussion of a series of truces and an ultimately British-mediated treaty of peace and friendship. But there is no mention whatsover of a "state of war" existing between the two, let alone an event in 1790 to characterise a specific outbreak of war. The history of the Portuguese Navy, VIAGENS E OPERAÇÕES NAVAIS (1668–1823), (2022, published by Academia de Marinha) makes no mention of a Portugese war beginning in 1790; it does however detail issues of piracy and discusses a Spanish declaration of war (but not Portuguese) and the Spanish treaty in the mid 1780s (see pp 203-212). This reliable source mentions the 1790-1793 war between Portugal and the Regency of Algiers.
The source doesn't refer to a "1790-1793 war", the source is indicating the period when US ships were also protected by the Portuguese, it is not making a statement about a start or finish of a war, just indicating war in existence. Nevertheless, this is the only source which mentions war and, FWIW, in the soruce there is no citation supporting this. The page is lacking a lot of information on the subspecies, such as taxonomy, behaviour, and reasons for extinction, and both sources are either low quality or lead to dead websites. The page for the nominate species already lists it under the list of subspecies section as well. Edelgardvonhresvelg (talk) 02:11, 17 February 2025 (UTC)

Article about a film, not properly sourced as passing WP:NFILM. As always, films are not all automatically entitled to have Wikipedia articles just for existing, and have to show evidence of passing WP:GNG on reliable source coverage and analysis about them in real media -- film reviews, production coverage, evidence of major film awards, etc. But this just states that the film exists, and "references" its existence entirely to unreliable sources, like IMDb and its own trailer on YouTube, with no evidence of GNG-building coverage shown at all, and even a Google News search isn't finding anything more reliable -- I'm only getting hits for a documentary about Stevie Wonder, not a drama film about families named Mensah and Johnson.
As there may be coverage in other languages that wouldn't turn up by searching for the English title, I'm willing to withdraw this if somebody can find more and better coverage than I've been able to, but IMDb and YouTube are not reliable or notability-building sources. - Comment: Something that makes this a bit tricky is that it looks like the director made two films with a similar name - this drama, and a documentary entitled Stevie Wonder in Ghana: In Search of a Blessed Life. Offhand I have two thoughts about this. The first is that if all else fails, we could redirect this to the Busia's page. The other is that I think Ghana is one of those countries where Google doesn't really search the various news sources and whatnot properly - or at least they were. I'm going to ask at the Ghana WikiProject if they can do a search, just to be on the safe side with this. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 14:39, 25 February 2025 (UTC)
- OK - found some info on this - looks like the Stevie Wonder documentary was inspired by the director's drama film. Offhand I'm not finding a lot, mostly mentions in passing - although more so for the Wonder documentary. My inclination is that there might be more out there, but otherwise we could add a couple of sentences to the director's article and redirect there. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 14:56, 25 February 2025 (UTC)
- Redirect to Akosua Busia. If someone can find more coverage I'm totally open to being swayed. It's just that at this point in time I wasn't able to really find anything about this movie that would be a RS and was in-depth. I think we could cover this in a couple of lines in the director's page and if more sourcing becomes available after the AfD, it can always be restored from a redirect. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 15:06, 25 February 2025 (UTC)
- Merge or Redirect I appreciate the responses of ReaderofthePack, and think that merging or redirecting (depending on how much can be sourced) is a good idea. I also note that there is an article on Cinema of Ghana where this information might fit. I note that the creator of this article has also created a number of recent drafts on Ghanian cinema, and perhaps should begin by adding to that article before creating separate articles for each film. I have Googled this artist thus confirming their existence. However, I couldn't find any reliable secondary sources that could be used to create a reasonably engaging encyclopaedia entry that doesn't contain hyperbolic language such as "he rose to fame"
The sources used in the page are all primary sources. Therefore, it would be impossible to cover this subject in an encyclopaedic tense without synthesis of the primary material.
Here's what I mean,

2. https://www.modernghana.com/music/8861/3/.html - this is a report from a regional music competition and is therefore primary.

5. https://www.modernghana.com/music/8861/3/.html this is a repeat source
6. This is a report from a time of an event and is therefore primary https://web.archive.org/web/20140904182407/http://www.modernghana.com/music/8861/3/.html
7. https://www.modernghana.com/music/17983/3/kesse-debuts-ugly-truth-album.html this is a routine press announcement about an upcoming album. Therefore, it is a primary source.
8. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/entertainment/135040-wizkid-wins-african-artiste-of-the-year-at-ghana-music-awards.html this is a primary source reporting on a competition that mentions the artist's name but it's not clear how it could translate into encyclopaedic content.
9. https://web.archive.org/web/20140314041448/http://www.ghanacelebrities.com/2012/04/15/full-list-of-winners-of-2012-vodafone-ghana-music-awards/ this is a list of award nominees that doesn't load. Again, this is a primary source and it's not clear how one could create engaging prose from it without significant synthesis.
10. https://web.archive.org/web/20140314041448/http://www.ghanacelebrities.com/2012/04/15/full-list-of-winners-of-2012-vodafone-ghana-music-awards/ this is a list of award winners which is great and all but how does one build an entire article completely from primary sources without significant synthesis.
Whether WP:MUSIC is present or not I just can't see how it's possible to create a suitably engaging article from these sources without synthesis of primary source material.

Several others are interviews with the CEO and clearly affiliated. - Keep I think the article could do with some editing - it appears that the name started as a privately owned company, but is now used to refer to a film industry based in Kumasi, Ghana. Many of the sources are about the film industry, rather than the private company - the book New African Cinema, for example, refers to "the category of "Kumawood films" ", and the "Kumawood genre". As well as the sources already in the article, the Modern Ghana news website has other stories about the state of the Kumawood industry. As Hydronium~Hydroxide noted, there are many scholarly articles about it too, including "The new wave in Ghana's video film industry: Exploring the Kumawood model" [16]; "Aberration of cultures: A study of distortion of Akan cultures in Kumawood movies in Ghana" [17]; "Re-examining Digital Effects in ‘Kumawood’ Science Fiction Film Titled 2016" [18]; "The depiction of invectives and violence in Kumawood movies" (not online, but published in 2020 at the University of Education, Winneba; "Emergence of Local Language Film Production in Ghana" [19] is largely about Kumawood; etc. It definitely meets WP:GNG. If it's not kept, however, as WP:ATD I suggest merging to Cinema of Ghana, which currently has one line about Kumawood. RebeccaGreen (talk) 12:18, 26 February 2025 (UTC)

It takes significant effort to do a complete source search for each of these, most of which aren't in English and are from the pre-Internet era from countries that have not digitized their national newspaper archives yet. If a sweeping argument should be made, then make that as a mass nomination, but otherwise these need to be more spread out. Having this many individual AfDs open at once about these historical figures notoriously difficult to research sets up an insurmountable task.
- NEXIST rationale: Liberian newspapers from the 1970s haven't been checked yet, we would expect coverage because Saidu was among only five athletes to represent Liberia at the 1972 Olympics, and the only 200m sprinter to qualify in a 16-year period from 1964 to 1980. Other avenue for sourcing: Given that only five athletes were represented, there's a good chance that Saidu might be the subject depicted on this stamp archived by John Lowe. Where did the stamp originate, and how was it used? If the stamp was in wide use, it might be indicative that Saidu was a national-level figure and there might have been related coverage. Asking for Lowe's source might be a good idea. --Habst (talk) 16:12, 25 February 2025 (UTC)

What we have here is a seemingly middle-of-the-road banking executive turned mid-level civil servant with a Wikipedia entry? What the dickens is going on here? There's no WP:SNG for business people so why is there a page about him? If being the governor of the Bank of Mauritius came with any prestige or notoriety then financial journalists would have written about him which they have not. Fails GNG and WP:PERP. Ignoring the usual online influencer unreliable sources like WP:DEXERTO and WP:SPORTSKEEDA, this guy is only notable for having been sued for a few minor charges and serving two months in prison [21]. The other sources that are not about this lawsuit are mostly routine announcements and do not talk about him in any significant depth. This page was previously created by blocked sock User:IMDB12, deleted per WP:A7 on January 1, and was now recreated by a different new COI account. Badbluebus (talk) 03:00, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: People, Video games, Internet, and Morocco. Badbluebus (talk) 03:00, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
- The subject meets WP:GNG with multiple independent sources covering his career beyond any legal issues. The article cites Hespress, Yabiladi, Morocco World News, and Kings League, which are all independent, reliable sources discussing his achievements in streaming, sports, and digital media. Dismissing Dexerto does not negate the fact that there is substantial non-routine coverage of his career.
- The claim that this is a WP:PERP case is misleading. WP:PERP applies when a person is only known for a legal issue, which is not the case here. His coverage in independent media predates and goes beyond any legal matter. The sources clearly establish his streaming success, leadership in the Kings World Cup, and industry recognition, including being named Moroccan Influencer of the Year.
- As for the claim that this article was recreated by the same blocked user, there is no actual evidence to support this—no IP check, no behavioral analysis, nothing. An accusation without proof should not be a basis for deletion. If there are concerns about sockpuppetry, they should be handled separately through proper channels, not used as an argument in AfD.
- This is a well-sourced article about a notable subject, and per WP:GNG, it should be kept. Datamanager3000 (talk) 03:51, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
- Keep I meant to add this at the start of my previous comment but forgot. Just clarifying my stance. Datamanager3000 (talk) 05:34, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
- Delete per the nominator. I checked all of the sources in the article and it is extremely weak. There is no indication that most of these are even reliable sources, and in my opinion, using unvetted sources for a WP:BLP (unless the source is obviously reliable) is a very, very bad idea and should not be able to help notability at all. λ NegativeMP1 04:24, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
- I dont know where you're from but in Morocco these are all very reliable sources apart from LGAMINGMA. Datamanager3000 (talk) 04:28, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
- But do they meet our criteria for a reliable source? No, I don't think they do, since sites like LGaming.ma don't have any editorial policy or about us page, and therefore no proper credentials. Furthermore, are those sites listed on WP:RSP or WP:VG/S? No, they aren't. λ NegativeMP1 04:34, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
- I am defending the retention of the article about Ilyas El Maliki because of the independent sources cited, such as Hespress, Yabiladi, and Morocco World News, which highlight his success in streaming, sports, and digital media. This success is not only tied to legal issues but is supported by significant media coverage of his career and achievements, including his participation in the Kings World Cup. Additionally, he was named Moroccan Influencer of the Year, which underscores his prominence. Furthermore, the claim that the article was recreated by the same blocked user is unfounded and lacks evidence. Based on these facts, I believe the article should be kept according to the guidelines of the encyclopedia. Hkatib (talk) 04:45, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
- I'd like to see what guidelines you're talking about because notability can only be demonstrated by reliable, secondary sources. None of the sources in the article can contribute to notability. See WP:GNG. λ NegativeMP1 05:00, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
- The argument that “none of the sources in the article contribute to notability” is not accurate. Hespress, Yabiladi, and Morocco World News are among the most widely recognized and referenced media outlets in Morocco. These are established, independent news sources that cover a range of topics, including politics, sports, and entertainment. Just because they are not listed on WP:RSP does not mean they are unreliable—WP:RSP is not an exhaustive list of every reliable source.
- The subject's notability is clearly demonstrated by substantial independent coverage in multiple sources, including his rise in streaming, his role in the Kings World Cup, and his recognition as Moroccan Influencer of the Year. These are not routine announcements but sustained coverage across different aspects of his career.
- Additionally, dismissing a source simply because it is not listed on WP:RSP is not how Wikipedia determines reliability. If there is a specific policy-based reason why Hespress or Morocco World News should be considered unreliable, that should be demonstrated with evidence. Otherwise, they should be evaluated on their actual editorial practices and reputation within their region, rather than being judged against a list that is primarily Western-focused. Datamanager3000 (talk) 05:07, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
- "Hespress, Yabiladi, and Morocco World News are among the most widely recognized and referenced media outlets in Morocco." And Fox News is among the most widely recognized and referenced news outlets in the United States. Low and behold, we consider it mostly unreliable per WP:RSP. And I never said that a source HAS to be on RSP or VG/S, but it is a good idea. Especially for BLPs, where it is recommended to only use the strongest sourcing available and sources that are low-quality in any fashion should be disregarded. Either way though, you haven't proven how any of the sources are reliable or useful at all. I gave my evidence and Grayfell provided his input as well. Please prove in your own words how they are reliable sources by our standards. λ NegativeMP1 06:57, 19 February 2025 (UTC)

- Comment - The Morocco World News source uses very strange and simple English. I cannot find anything on that page about its editing standards or fact-checking/corrections or similar. How does this outlet meet WP:RS? Same question about LGAMING.MA.
- Hespress is slightly better, but again, who are its editors? Le Matin (Morocco) seems to be a legit newspaper, but it's a passing mention, at best.
- The Yabiladi source doesn't appear to mention Ilyas El Maliki, making it useless for notability even if it were reliable. Grayfell (talk) 06:16, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
- It looks like Yabiladi.com uses machine translation to plagiarize articles from other outlets. For example this article Euractiv.com is beat-for-beat copied by Yabiladi.com's version, but significantly worse in just about every way. The site has no indication of editorial oversight or fact checking. It likely shouldn't be cited on Wikipedia at all. Grayfell (talk) 20:39, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
- this source from a outlet called Le 360 is a single sentence and a photo followed by a bunch of social media posts. It's not useful for notability. Grayfell (talk) 00:51, 23 February 2025 (UTC)

- Ilyas El Maliki is a well-known and influential figure in the fields of streaming and digital media. His success goes beyond video games, extending into sports and even fashion. Being named "Moroccan Influencer of the Year" in 2025 is clear evidence of his significance in the media landscape. This achievement has been documented by reputable and independent sources such as Hespress, Yabiladi, and Morocco World News, which cover his success in detail, including his contract with the streaming platform Kick and his participation in the Kings World Cup.
- On the other hand, the argument to remove the article due to legal issues or conflicts with other individuals lacks any solid foundation. Indeed, every individual faces challenges throughout their career, but Ilyas has proven through his achievements and his global recognition that he deserves his place in the encyclopedia. Many people follow and interact with him across social media platforms, and he is widely acknowledged as a public figure of prominence.
- Keeping the article would be a reasonable step to maintain accurate and factual documentation about a prominent figure who has had a significant impact both locally and internationally. According to the guidelines of the encyclopedia, articles about public figures who have a broad influence and notable achievements should remain in the database. Hkatib (talk) 06:48, 19 February 2025 (UTC)— Hkatib (talk • contribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.
- Notice: The above user is currently a suspected sock-puppet and their argument is based on ideas proven false by both me and Grayfell. Also, there is no mention of sports and fashion in this article. This comment is quite literally just making stuff up. λ NegativeMP1 06:51, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
- Keep I think the discussion was negatively impacted by the behavior of the creator of the article, but the topic is notable I believe, especially when searching in non-English sources (consider that English is neither a native language nor the primary foreign language in Morocco). I was in fact planning to write an article about him at some point, as he's undoubtedly hands down the most famous Moroccan streamer. None of the explicitly linked sources below mention him just in passing. Some of them are from websites of famous Moroccan newspapers (such as L'Opinion, Alalam and Al Ahdath Al Maghribia), in addition to known non-Moroccan source such Al-Arabiya and The New Arab. I also tried to avoid blog-like sites and purely tabloid news, and keep only international and national, rather than regional sources.

WP:BLP says that any material about a living person whether positive or negative must be removed if it is not reliably sourced. Here, I can see interviews (primary), some mentions in relation to TV shows, a listicle and a lot of brief routine press announcements about new projects etc which are also primary. This article's sources lack the kind of in-depth, biographical overview spanning a broader part of the subject's life that these announcements and interviews do that are required to make high-quality encyclopaedia entries. This article and others like it lower Wikipedia's overall quality and perpetuate the idea that anyone can create a page about anyone on Wikipedia as long as they have a few quid to buy a few interviews in Nigeria's national press. I'm sure that's all well and good for self-promoters and fame-hunters but what if this method of making literally anyone notable enough for Wikipedia was used maliciously to perpetuate falsehoods about someone, and somehow that non-editorially moderated information makes it onto Wikipedia, then we would all become complicit in destroying that person. I'm digressing a little here but my point is that allowing BLP articles based on sources that aren't properly edited, moderated or regulated is a dangerous path to go down and I would implore anyone reading this to consider this encyclopaedia's long-term viability ahead of this hyper inclusioninst approach to notability and article creation that many seem to be defending so vehemently at the moment. - Comment Here is why I believe that this page in its current form does not sufficiently demonstrate the subject's notability.
1. https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2019/12/01/inside-the-private-life-of-munachi-abii/ This source appears to be a long form advert for a skincare product. It is primarily an interview with some real gems like;
She explains: “Because BerryWorks is 100 percent organically sourced and produced. It is the only skincare product in Africa that consists predominantly of berries and herbs. Our customers can follow us on Instagram @berry.works to place an order.”
There is no way that this source is independent and therefore it cannot be used to verify notability.
2. https://punchng.com/why-i-switched-from-beauty-pageant-to-rap-music-munachi-abii/ another interview and therefore primary.
3. https://www.legit.ng/entertainment/nollywood/1540849-stunning-beauties-osas-ighodaro-4-nollywood-stars-beauty-queens-titles/ this source has a sexist title which I'd say rules it out off the bat. That said the article is just a listicle and doesn't offer us anywhere near the level of significant coverage that we need to verify general notability.
4. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2010/01/handing-over-a-relief-says-munachi-abii/ this source is an interview. It is therefore a primary source.
5. https://www.modernghana.com/movie/4032/3/munachi-abii-ready-for-music-career.html this source says that it hasn't been published yet?
6. https://pmnewsnigeria.com/2010/07/01/munachi-abii-steps-up-music-career/ this is a routine press announcement and doesn't cover a broad enough time frame to meet the definition of secondary.
7. https://web.archive.org/web/20160305183712/http://notjustok.com/2011/10/18/video-bet-hip-hop-awards-nigerian-cypher-2011-male-female/ This source is a press release about the BET awards.
8. https://www.pulse.ng/articles/entertainment/movies/5-memorable-moments-in-living-in-bondage-breaking-free-2024081706361058474 this source is a listicle consisting of brief film reviews but interestically, doesn't mention the article's subject.
9. https://thenationonlineng.net/finding-hubby-ade-laoye-kehinde-bankole-others-to-star-in-screen-adaptation/ this is a film review that again doesn't offer us any in-depth, well written, objective or critical insight into the subject's life.
10. https://punchng.com/mercy-aigbe-shaffy-bello-others-attend-premiere-of-obsession/ this is a fifty word article promoting a film. No in-depth coverage of the subject's life here.
11. https://web.archive.org/web/20191106212409/https://www.pulse.ng/entertainment/celebrities/munachi-abii-ex-beauty-queen-becomes-tv-presenter/yr3lt9m this is a routine press announcement promoting a TV show. Again, it doesn't really offer any biographical overview.
12. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/entertainment/naija-fashion/429108-2020-bon-here-are-5-nominees-for-best-kiss-category.html?tztc=1 this is a nomination for "Best Kiss of 2020" again it doesn't really offer us anything in terms of biographical overview.
So unless there is some magical trove of secondary sources about this subject, I can't see how this article in its present form shows that they are notable. Somebody mentioned WP:BASIC my understanding of WP:BASIC is that while multiple independent sources can be combined to demonstrate notability those sources still need to be secondary, independent and reliable. I don't see how any of this page's sources are independent seeing as most are lifted from press releases. There are some interviews but interviews aren't secondary and while primary sources like interviews can be used to support some of an article's content in lieu of secondary sources they're meant to be a temporary measure until secondary sources become available.
Whether this subject meets WP:ACTOR isn't clear from the sources and the purpose of an WP:SNG is to say, "yes there is probably enough, or will likely be enough about this subject for this stub-page to grow into a C or a B in the future."
include verifiable criteria about a topic which show that appropriate sourcing likely exists for that topic.
Therefore, WP:ACTOR isn't just a case of saying, well they've appeared in several films and TV shows so they unequivocally meet C1. Firstly, editors and the public need to be able to verify C1 for themselves so the page would still need some reliable sources to verify if WP:ACTOR is met. Moreover, there needs to be a reasonable chance that high-quality independent secondary sources exist so that the article can evolve over time. If a subject meets an SNG it doesn't mean that the page can be left as it is and it certainly doesn't mean that synthesis of primary material should be used to develop the page. GNG is still the objective.
So how do these sources that I have lifted above show that this subjects meets any of the aforementioned general, basic or subject-specific notability?𝔓420°𝔓Holla 09:42, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
- Comment @Gratefulking: Never score out other editor comments in any in Afd going forward. It is disruptive, deeply uncool and unprofessional. Have significant concerns with the quality of sourcing available on the subject to the point that I don't think a Wikipedia article is justified at this point. Cited news articles (namely the ON The Light, Guardian, Daily Times, and Tribune sources) seem like puff pieces that directly draw from a press release for the musician and the DJ training enterprise that he's founded, rather than substantial coverage of him. - Keep: There are significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. The subject passes Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Basic criteria, which says:
People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.
- If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability; trivial coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not usually sufficient to establish notability.

He hails from Ijare, Ondo State, yet had his early life in Akure, Ondo State. His deep love for music was shaped by an upbringing surrounded by Afrobeats, hip-hop, R&B, reggae, and house music. Inspired by icons such as Jazzy Jeff, Black Coffee, Carl Cox, and Martin Garrix, he is a self-taught DJ who started with the mastery of DJ hardware and later learned the software (Serato, Rekordbox, Ableton, and Logic Pro) in 2010—a year he termed the start of his greatness, with faith and resilience. This institution became one of the leading DJ schools in Africa, training over 300 DJs and setting the foundation for structured DJ education in the country. He has shown his skillful deejaying at various parties within the United Kingdom and beyond. While he is based there, he also comes to Nigeria to play at selected shows and concerts. When he started DJing from the streets of Nigeria, heralding through the storms of performing at local shows and concerts, to the ever-chaotic clubs of Lagos and its environs, one would think the hurdles of hustling would pull him back. These are reviews of his songs I was able to find.
There is sufficient coverage in reliable sources to allow OnlyOneMassive to pass Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline, which requires "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject". There are reviews about his released songs that has biographical information about OnlyOneMassive, Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline says, "Significant coverage is more than a trivial mention, but it does not need to be the main topic of the source material." These sources each provide significant coverage about OnlyOneMassive, if we search.

I cannot cite a work that wants to ridiculously force me to believe OnlyOneMassive stands as a testament to the transformative power of passion, innovation, and cultural pride in the global music industry. and that As he continues to push boundaries and create massive, unforgettable experiences, OnlyOneMassive not only elevates African music on the global stage but also ensures its enduring legacy for generations to come.
- I also will not cite a work that forces me to believe OnlyOneMassive’s ability to blend different genres and create a unique sound is a testament to his expertise and creativity as a producer.

This table may not be a final or consensus view; it may summarize developing consensus, or reflect assessments of a single editor. Created using {{source assess table}}. |
As you can see the available sources provide only superficial information about Yadah's career and works. Most of the sources lack the reputations for editorial standards and there are even social media links masquerading as inline citations. Personal websites and social media platforms are not independent and therefore cannot count towards GNG. The same goes for republished press releases that just give routine announcements.
In terms of the WP:MUSIC WP:SNG I have created the following WikiTable to illustrate how they do not meet any of the WP:SNG criteria for musicians.

Most do not have a byline, which is clear evidence of the articles being paid promotion, alongside the exaggerated puffery in the prose. The articles that have bylines are no better: the two from Pulse Ghana are meaningless puffery, containing absolutely zero detail and reading like AI slop. The Leadership article is some contrived biography with a headline implying it's actually an interview, probably paid for just to fill in this Wikipedia article, and probably isn't sigcov either. It has two bylines from a journalist and the company and there are no quotes, majority of the articles are neutral and has bylines, did you talk about that? You see only the negative aspects of an article ? They are majorly secondary sources and all writers won’t write the way you wish them to, you can’t say this subject don’t merit a Wikipedia page because of what you think about the articles over they, review the articles again with good faith and check the bylines on the references listed on the article and review the credibility of the sites, the articles are in-depth and every statement are facts that are cited, what’s the promotion here? It’s there anything written that isn’t real? Where is the exaggeration? Gratefulking (talk) 10:53, 24 February 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose the article has been updated since nomination. The links you yourself have proposed further support the notability guidelines, especially when we consider the region she operates in, which has a smaller media landscape than for Western individuals, and that does not always have documented sources that Wikipedia considers appropriate. Consider this feature of her speaking publicly about abolishing state descriptors to remove barriers to job access, or here speaking about electoral integrity. It was distributed by a major news outlet, which would be considered a RS elsewhere in the world. But because it is not hosted on an independent site, only Youtube it is not appropriate for Wikipedia. There are lots of other supporting information about Okoye that is distributed this way. I think the argument that there are not enough reliable sources to establish notability is particularly narrow as we should be conscious that not all regions have the sources that would be expected by a Western audience. If we deny on these grounds it risks biasing the Encyclopedia further, especially when it concerns those that are considered notable persons outside a Western perspective. The readers can come to their own conclusions. Nayyn (talk) 10:50, 12 February 2025 (UTC)
- Your update after the nomination does not address the notability concerns raised because you merely edited the existing information in the article without addressing the main issue. The three sources you presented are not different from what were already in the article in the sense that the new ones you presented are also interviews by a TV station. She was only interviewed commenting on a different thing and that does not improve her notability. Please checkout WP:INDEPENDENT. You're an autopatrolled user right holder that should have a deep understanding of what reliable and acceptable sources are. I analyzed all the sources in the article in the nomination statement and would like you to pick the sources and analyse them one after the other to show how they meet RS criteria. Even a nationally-important entrepreneur in sub-Saharan Africa isn't going to routinely have Washington Post or Le Monde articles written about them. - Looking only at the sources mentioned in this AfD: they're definitely all very fluffy positive pieces, but that by itself isn't disqualifying if they're independent, reliable coverage.
- The first source is The Guardian (Nigeria). We can find it at WikiProject Nigeria's list of reliable sources, with the comment "Sponsored posts are bylined as "Editor"". This one is bylined as "Guardian Nigeria". Not sure if this is a good sign (not "Editor") or a bad one (not a named person, like some of their more serious articles).
- The second is Nigerian Tribune, which is listed in the same place as above as generally reliable without caveats.
- The third is by Vanguard (Nigeria), listed under generally borderline with the comment "It may be usable depending on context. Involved in paid, promotional, and sponsored content by the newspaper, some of which is NOT explicitly marked as so."
- The last source, from Qualitative Magazine, seems to be a special-purpose disability advocacy magazine. Not listed in the source analysis, doesn't have an article, a quick search doesn't give much of anything about them.
- So (without any deeper knowledge of the Nigerian media landscape) I'd call this one high-quality source, and three possibly paid promotional sources. My inclination would be to delete unless someone can verify that the Guardian and Vanguard sources aren't paid or otherwise non-independent. Rusalkii (talk) 21:31, 25 February 2025 (UTC)

I have carried out WP:BEFORE on this previously unreferenced BLP about a writer, and have added three sources. One is the publisher's website, however, so not an independent source. The other two are both reviews in Kirkus. I haven't been able to find three good sources, and don't think he meets WP:GNG or WP:NAUTHOR. I did find this in the Daily Herald through ProQuest, but it reads like a press release from the publisher. Tacyarg (talk) 20:16, 18 February 2025 (UTC)

- Delete per nom. Couldn't find anything on Proquest for any of his books. The Daily Herald piece is clearly a press release from the publisher, and the two Kirkus reviews are from the Kirkus Indie program, which means they are paid reviews and therefore not usable for the purposes of WP:NAUTHOR. Didn't find anything else to suggest notability. MCE89 (talk) 04:59, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
- I believe this article meets Wikipedia’s notability guidelines for authors. While the Kirkus reviews may not be considered strong independent sources per WP:NAUTHOR, additional evidence supports the subject’s notability. The author has been featured in multiple crime fiction podcasts, including *Spear-Talk* and *Second Sunday Books*, where he has been interviewed alongside other established thriller writers. Additionally, he has contributed articles to *Thrilleresque Magazine*, an independent literary publication recognized in the crime fiction community.
- Furthermore, the author is one of the few Western writers to have visited and written about North Korea, a topic that has been central to two of his published works. His experiences in North Korea have been discussed in both *Spear-Talk* and *Second Sunday Books* podcasts, as well as in his referenced article in *Thrilleresque Magazine*.
- I am continuing to search for independent sources, particularly given that the author has spoken on *espionage thriller* panels at *Bouchercon 2024* and *Bouchercon 2022*, one of the most recognized literary events in crime fiction. Given the subject’s multiple published works, ongoing media coverage, and contributions to the crime fiction genre, I request that the article be retained. 2601:241:8E00:87B:8159:B6BD:E466:6C67 (talk) 03:08, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
- Following my initial response, I have found and added additional independent sources related to the author's latest book, *Midnight in Delhi*, which has received multiple positive reviews in the U.S. and India. Notably, *Best Thriller Books*, one of the leading independent book reviewers in the thriller genre, has reviewed the novel. These new references further reinforce the subject’s ongoing recognition in the crime fiction community. I am continuing to search for more independent coverage to strengthen the article. 2601:241:8E00:87B:8159:B6BD:E466:6C67 (talk) 03:20, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
- Appearances on podcasts and panels, an article that the subject authored, and an alumni interview can't be considered towards notability, as they are not independent sources. These two sources seem to just be publisher blurbs. The review in "Best Thriller Books" is a little closer, but it's an extremely short review on what seems to be a relatively obscure website. I don't think we're close to WP:NAUTHOR or WP:GNG yet. MCE89 (talk) 03:56, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
- Following my previous response, I have added multiple independent sources confirming the author's participation in major crime fiction literary events. Notably, A.C. Frieden has been a featured panelist at *Bouchercon 2018 (St. Petersburg)*, *Bouchercon 2019 (Dallas)*, and *Bouchercon 2024 (Nashville)*, with an upcoming panel scheduled for *Bouchercon 2025*. These conferences are widely recognized as some of the most prestigious gatherings in the crime fiction genre. Independent references from *CrimeReads*, *Lone Star Literary Life*, and *J.T. Ellison’s official website* confirm his participation, further supporting his standing in the field. These sources are **third-party, reliable, and independent of the subject**, meeting Wikipedia's WP:GNG and WP:NAUTHOR standards. Additionally, I am continuing to search for further independent sources, particularly reviews of Frieden's novels in established media outlets. Given the subject’s multiple published works, confirmed speaking engagements at industry-leading events, and coverage in respected literary publications, I request that the article be retained. 2601:241:8E00:87B:F8CE:427D:F4AB:EDC8 (talk) 19:21, 23 February 2025 (UTC)

- Delete. Both nom and MCE89 have provided significant evidence that the subject of this article lacks the widespread independent secondary coverage required by GNG. The article is also contains promotional material which looks like a WP:RESUME. Nearly the entire bibliography is composed of self-authored, self-published, or otherwise primary sources that are disqualified for consideration towards notability. GuardianH 05:36, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose Deletion. The assertion that the subject lacks widespread independent secondary coverage overlooks the significant credibility of Down & Out Books, a leading crime fiction publisher. Notably, Down & Out Books is the official publisher of the Bouchercon Anthology, the official annual publication of Bouchercon, the world's premier crime fiction conference. Additionally, Down & Out Books has published works by over 200 authors, including #1 New York Times bestselling author C.J. Box and Edgar Award-winning authors David Housewright and Naomi Hirahara, among others. The publisher’s association with such acclaimed writers underscores its legitimacy and prominence in the crime fiction community. Down & Out Books has published four of the subject’s works, including the most recent, which was published in both the U.S. and India in November 2024. This international distribution further demonstrates the subject’s professional recognition and reach.
- Dismissing the bibliography as "self-authored, self-published, or otherwise primary sources" misrepresents the nature of Down & Out Books. While it operates as an independent press, it is not a vanity or self-publishing operation. The publisher maintains a rigorous editorial selection process, professional production standards, and industry-wide distribution, aligning with reputable publishing practices.
- Given the publisher's prestige, its role in publishing multiple works by the subject, and the subject's international reach, the article meets WP:GNG and WP:AUTHOR guidelines. Concerns regarding promotional language can be addressed through standard editorial improvements rather than deletion. 2601:241:8E00:87B:F5B2:D640:8893:3CB1 (talk) 06:29, 27 February 2025 (UTC)

- Strong keep. Per Tilastopaja the subject was nominated for the Canadian 2016 Olympic team and competed at the 2015 World University Games advancing to the semi-finals and finals, so the statement that she "had no career on the international level" simply isn't correct. Subject was also the 2016 Bajan national champion over 100m so she fulfills WP:TRACK prong 1 and prong 4, it's incorrect to say that she doesn't satisfy NTRACK.
- Now getting to the actual coverage, above article from the Springfield News-Leader can't be dismissed outright because it's a "local paper" -- that still qualifies as "independent" per the WP:GNG definition,
"Independent of the subject" excludes works produced by the article's subject or someone affiliated with it. For example, advertising, press releases, autobiographies, and the subject's website are not considered independent
. - I've found several other high quality GNG-contributing sources, for example:

- @Geschichte, greatly respect your contributions but I disagree with both points. Being nominated can count for something in a career, just like being nominated for an award but not winning it can still be career-defining. And of course the World University Games is an international meet in the same way that the World Athletics U20 Championships is; athletes compete representing their country. As a for-profit company this needs to meet WP:NCORP rather than GNG, and while there are lots of passing mentions and press releases, I'm unable to find substantive intellectually independent sources. There is also a history of UPE. Vanamonde93 (talk) 17:09, 25 February 2025 (UTC)

- Delete if not speedily, based on lack of notability, failure to meet WP:NARTIST and significant WP:PROMO. No significant exhibitions, and the only evidence of works in a permanent collection is the statement that his
delightful paintings have been placed on permanent display in various pizzerias
which doesn't qualify as a notable museum or national gallery. This highly promotional COI entry has been heavily edited by the artist and his partner based on the first-person prose, and the user name "Atelier ZoooooZ" (ZoooooZ is the artist's moniker). Statements point to self-promotion such as:As artists, we know only too well that an original, handmade, genuine work of art is a lifelong dream for many people...But that's exactly why we, Mumzy Maria Uberstein and Zoooooz Roland Zulehner, have launched a special campaign.
andThe artwork is simultaneously used as advertising as part of the campaign
andBecause even as artists we have to make a living and can't give everything away.
, etc.. Most of the article consists of unsourced puffery, and an excessive number of images uploaded by the artist, WP:NOTWEBHOST. Appears to also fail WP:GNG, as most of the citations are sourced to Facebook, pay-to-play publications, and user-submitted content. Even if reliable sources could be found, the article would qualify for WP:TNT. Netherzone (talk) 14:54, 24 February 2025 (UTC)- It also appears that the artist, who is also the creator of the article, goes by two WP user names: User:Atelier ZoooooZ which is a shared account with his artistic partner (as per a discussion on Commons, and their Commons user page); and also by User:Beweinding who created this article and states on their user page that they are Roland Zulehner. Not sure if that is relevant to this AfD, but wanted to point this out. Netherzone (talk) 19:45, 24 February 2025 (UTC)

- I found this article highly entertaining, as it reaches new heights of irrelevance. I laughed, I cried (of laughter), I cried some more (of laughter). Sentences like "The Arslan Kebap Restaurant is a place where cultures merge and form a community." should be kept for eternity, somewhere. - Support to avoid a speedy close and give the artist time to copy the article if he hasn't done so already. He has put in a great deal of time and design effort to put the page together, just hasn't fully understood how Wikipedia works. It is an encyclopedia, which means no editorializing and must be sourced to reputable sources and not blogs and Facebook links. To Roland, what do you think are the best sources? Have enjoyed the photos of your work. A nice try in writing and illustrating a page, likely just missed the mark of it being an encyclopedic approach to summarizing notable artistic creations. - If Wikipedia will have a new article about Roland, pls keep in mind that he is more of an entertainer than a contemporary artist. He once wrote a book (Ich geh eins trinken) about having a drink. Yes, that's all there was, a whole book where Roland describes in great lenghts how one picks a bar, orders a drink. Even how to drink drinks. Best book ever. Also he wrote a book about how to get rich with Facebook. Two months later he wrote a book about why one should delete his or hers Facebook account.

- Keep. In general, articles about extinct species should be kept especially if the extinction was a result of human activity. However, the photo should be replaced to show white people hunting the animals. As far as sourcing, I think this could be improved. Coresly (talk) 03:33, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
- Not every single extinct species has a page. For example, the Chobe black rhinoceros (D. b chobiensis) and the Moroccan Arabian bustard (A. a. lynsei), In terms of sourcing, there is not much in terms of online sources besides that recently extinct animal database, which is also lacking. - Delete While we do tend to keep articles on extinct species in extant genera (see recent clarification at Wikiproject:Paleo, as I myself wasn't too clear on that), we rarely have articles for even living subspecies - they are generally treated at the species page. In this case, the listing at Black rhinoceros seems entirely sufficient. Maybe port over the image if that's desired. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 07:35, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
DeleteI agree with this. Plus, at least the subspecies and distinct population pages like Cuban ivory-billed woodpecker and South China tiger are decently written with more content than two sentences. The IUCN status on the north-eastern black rhinoceros page is not even sourced. - @Edelgardvonhresvelg: the links [63][64] were in my not vote. I think the maps in those papers of the extinct subspecies (not just NE) range are of interest, but you're right, the text is already covered. --Spacepine (talk) 03:06, 19 February 2025 (UTC)

Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Liz Read! Talk! 04:38, 24 February 2025 (UTC)- So, what is the final consensus for this article? Two keeps, two deletes, and two merges. Edelgardvonhresvelg (talk) 05:49, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
- In the interest of getting something done, merging the additional cites to the listing in the species article would be uncontroversial IMO. We can use extra references but we can not use an extra article. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 07:22, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
- The problem is that the references on the NE black rhino page are poor quality or dead. However, the references provided here by @Spacepine can be applied to its listing in the subspecies section for the black rhinoceros. Edelgardvonhresvelg (talk) 04:26, 27 February 2025 (UTC)
