Miklós Ambrus (31 May 1933 – 3 August 2019) was a Hungarian water polo player, born in Eger who competed in the 1964 Summer Olympics.[1][2]
His life path
Since 1944 he has been active in sports regularly in Eger. From 1950 he was a player at the Egri Fáklya SK. At the age of sixteen, he was already a goalkeeper in the Prime League. In 1953 he was signed up by Kinizsi in Budapest.
He went to Australia in 1956, but returned home after two years. From 1959 he became a player of Ferencváros again. He was a member of the team which won a bronze medal at the 1961 Universiade. After his performance in the tournament, he was selected to be in the 1962 European Championship team. In 1964 his team won an Olympic gold medal and then in 1966 he finished the fifth place at the European Waterpolo championship. Between 1955 and 1968 he was 55 times in the national team.
After his sports career was over, he also worked at the Water Polo Association, Ferencváros and its water polo team. In 1996 he became the marketing director of the Olympic Champions Club.
His son, Tamás Ambrus (1964-2015), also succeeded in water polo, was an active athlete a selection of water polo players, and later continued his sports career as a coach, including the head coach of Ferencváros.
