Glassverket IF is a soccer and handball club from Drammen, Norway. The club is most famous for their handball team, which currently compete in the second tier of Norwegian handball, the 1. divisjon.

The club also facilitates skiing and used to play bandy.

History

The club was founded on February 11th 1911.[1] The handball department was founded in 1961. In 1974 they won the national championship and national cup in field handball for the first time.

In the 1980's the club was in the top division of Norwegian handball, and they won the indoor national championship in 1981. In the 90's they featured mainly in the second and third tier.[1]

In 2012 they were promoted to the top division once again.[1] In 2015 the handball club finished 2nd behind Larvik HK.[2]

In the 2016-17 season the club was in economic trouble and had to release the entire player and coaching personnel. They finished last that season and was relegated to the 1st division.[3] The club could not stay in the first division due to the financial issues and were administratively relegated to the 3rd division.[4]

For the 2022-23 they overtook the 1st division license from Reistad IL, and once again they played in the 1st division.[5]

Football

The football department was restarted in 2007 after laying dormant for many years. In 2011 they were promoted to the 5. divisjon, the sixth tier in the Norwegian football league system.
