Question from Flambardwilliams09 (06:37, 29 January 2025)

hi, i need some guidance regarding where to begin editing in order to build a reputation as an editor.

I'd be thankful if you can help! --Flambardwilliams09 (talk) 06:37, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Flambardwilliams09: Hi, you might find Help:Starting editing a useful place to begin. My advice would be to start small; you don't need to write a whole article straight away! Fix typos, add citations, and slowly build yourself up. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 19:45, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Alright! Thanks for the help! Flambardwilliams09 (talk) 05:37, 31 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Revision Deletion query

Hi Pickersgill-Cunliffe, apologies for bothering you, but your name is listed as an Editor who is prepared to look at Revision Deletion queries. I have today, for the first time, encountered what I think (but am not convinced) is revision deletion, on the View History page of Wormleighton Manor... Is this indeed RevDel, and if so, do you know what might have been so scurrilous in the ealy drafts of an article on a mediaeval building that we can't see anything before 2020, please? For the avoidance of doubt, on my screen, every revision prior to 23:56 17 December 2020 has its date only shown in strike-through and its compare selected revisions radio button is greyed out. Thanks. CharlesSpencer (talk) 17:36, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@CharlesSpencer: Hi! The content in Wormleighton Manor was revision deleted because of a long-standing copyright violation in the article (see this edit summary). Thanks, Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 00:27, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from HAIL FAME (03:13, 6 February 2025)

Question from AbigailHannah (05:35, 7 February 2025)

Hi pickersgill-cunnliff, What is the easiest way to add the conservation status box to the Wiki page of a species? For instance, as my first edit I wanted to add a conservation status box to the Blue tongued skink’s page. But found the process confounding.

Does one have to know how to edit the code? I considered copying the template over from another page such as say the Ivory Billed Woodpecker’s. But found that too confusing.

Thanks, AH --AbigailHannah (talk) 05:35, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Kaminazalil (14:50, 11 February 2025)

Hey if i want to edit like they did something new in their carrer can i edit it? --Kaminazalil (talk) 14:50, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Kaminazalil: Hi, welcome to Wikipedia! If you have a reliable source saying something new about a subject then you can add it to the article. Make sure you include the citation when you do so. This page explains how! Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 14:52, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Four G5 deletions

The following four images (File:Bulacan State University Student Lounge8.jpg, File:Student Lounge Bulacan State University2.jpg, File:Bulacan State University4.jpg, and File:Rancho Home of Original1.jpg) were undeleted locally by myself after having been deleted on Wikimedia Commons. They remain useful freely-licensed images which were used locally under the {{FoP-USonly}} template. I highly doubt that CSD G5 was intended for freely-licensed images which are in use and merely being back-imported from Commons. Would you mind undeleting the images and repopulating their usage? Thanks. IronGargoyle (talk) 15:49, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@IronGargoyle: Hi! I didn't delete any of the images based on their own merits; this was part of a much larger deletion (after the nuke failed) of files added as part of block evasion by this LTA. The deletions were the result of an discuss at AN here. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 16:03, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha. They are still collateral damage though. G5 doesn't apply to templates which are transcluded or categories which are populated, so it shouldn't apply to within-scope images which are in use. English Wikipedia doesn't spell that out, but that's probably because most such images are dealt with on Commons (which tellingly, doesn't have an speedy deletion policy for in-scope and freely-licensed files by banned users). IronGargoyle (talk) 16:16, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You didn't really address the core part of my question, which is whether you'd be willing to undelete them. I am not sure if you are caught up on G5 not mentioning files, but this seems like prime IAR territory. You do say that they weren't deleted on their own merits (and I agree). Given that, if you don't undelete them, I am inclined to re-upload them (as opposed to undeleting them). I undeleted originally because I like to preserve the English Wikipedia edit history when possible (and it's easier), but that is not necessary for license attribution requirements with a file. Re-uploading may also help the files avoid becoming CSD G5 collateral damage in the future, as they will not have the Judgefloro sock in the upload history.
