English: It was a hot day in Poiesti, the centre of oil production in Romania. The railway station was some way west of the town centre. Hardly an old bulding in sight here. Suddenly in the town centre, everything went quiet. Scores of police sprung into action, traffic stopped. Silence. Then the expected motorcade swept round the corner and along the modern boulevard. Scores and scores of motorcycle outriders, sirens, and black cars. Very former situation. Perhpas the president. Perhaps a junior minister, the sort who is always unavailable for television or radio interviews in Britain when they don't want to discuss unpalatable measures. A written statement has just been sent..... Still, a very attractive livery, with the usual Romania stencilling of fleetname. Very former situation. I liked Romania, if not the cuisine.
