Nate Wilbourne

Could someone have a look at the editing history of this article? It seems strange to me. I don't want to cast any aspersions, but it is odd seeing so many single-purpose accounts expanding the article. This article seems to be expanded a lot more than other articles with similar page views. The images being freely licensed on Wikimedia Commons also makes me suspicious, especially considering that the images were marked as "own work"s by the people who have expanded the article, with two images being created by a user named "Natewilbournee". ―Panamitsu (talk) 08:52, 2 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

There is quite obvious COI editing with that article, with a promotional tone to the edits and reliance on sources from the subject himself. I'd suggest stripping out most detail from the subject himself that isn't mundane basic information and just summarising the independent news sources. I agree with Traumnovelle. The article is so promotional it is almost a WP:TNT candidate. The subject appears to pass GNG though so I don't think deleting it is a realistic choice. You could nuke out most of the non-independent sources and replace them with {{citation needed}}, and then wait a bit and start deleting anything without a citation per WP:BLP. There are multiple editors who have contributed to this article who have a contribution history showing few or no other articles. This suggests that people close to the subject could be involved. However, this is speculation, and I think it is best to focus on the content and make changes as required to create a more encylopedic tone. I agree that content that is cited only to the website about the subject should be challenged and removed unless (a) it is just basic facts or (b) the content can be readily supported by an independent and reliable published source - and if it can, then the cite to the self-published source can be removed. The biography and education sections are well supported by reliable independent sources (multiple Stuff articles), so the promotional refs in those bits can just be stripped out. Regarding TNT, one possible way forward is:
  • declare that you are going to rewrite the article from scratch
  • put a copy into your user space to have a record of the sources
  • delete everything that needs to be redone (maybe keep sections noted above, unless the prose is too promotional)
  • once you get going, I’ll delete the article history

Aotearoa New Zealand virtual Wiki meetup day and time change

As an outcome of the Jan 4th meetup a discussion was undertaken by the attendees about the timing and date of these meetings due to previous feedback from WANZ members unable to attend on Sundays. Feedback from participants of that meeting was that the noon time broke up the day disruptively and members wanted to the meeting to be earlier - preferably at 10am. The attendees also discussed a Saturday meeting or alternatively a rotating meeting using Saturday and then Sunday. After a discussion, attendees agreed to trial a regular Saturday meeting starting on the 24th of January at 10am to avoid clashes with both the Wellington and Auckland in person meetings. The virtual meeting will continue to be held once every four weeks. This change in time and date will be again be discussed at the 24th of January meeting and feedback will again be gathered from attendees. If interested parties are unable to attend but wish to add their views as to the change in time and date they can do so in the "Future Meetings" section of the agenda for that meetup. Help needed with death date on Ray Boord

The lede of the article and infobox give two different death dates (3 April 1982 and 29 April 1982) for New Zealand politician Ray Boord. The body of the article with a citation just gives the month. Notes from the Aotearoa New Zealand meetup on Sat 24th of Jan

Here are the completed notes for the 24th of Jan Aotearoa New Zealand online meet up. During this meeting Sophie from WANZ presented on the survey she conducted of members to find out preferred day and times for future meetings. See her slide deck here. Attendees at the meeting reached a consensus that given the almost even majority preference results (46% Saturday, 43% Sunday and 43% Alternating Sat/Sun) the meetings should be held alternating weekend days to allow those unable to attend on certain weekend days to at least have an opportunity to attend some meetings. The survey indicated a preference for a 10am meeting start time with 68% of participants preferring that time. The survey also indicated 57% would prefer the meeting be 1hr 30min in length. The group agreed that the schedule should be formed for the whole year to ensure meeting dates were known in advance and to assist with planning of regional meet ups and editathon. WANZ news and newsletter

How many people here are unaware of the News section on the WANZ website? Or was that just me until about a year ago? I feel that not enough attention is being brought to it and would like to suggest that someone post on this noticeboard whenever a news item is released, because—well maybe I'm wrong—but I don't imagine that many people read it. I would be happy to post news notifications on the NZ notice board, but I still have no idea how to get notified whenever a new news item is released. Is that even a thing? Here are some options:
  1. Post on the notice board. This will get people who are interested in NZ Wikipedia stuff to see the articles, but could 'clog up' the notice board, filling it with content that isn't about NZ editing matters (not sure if this is a bad thing or not).
  2. We could have a page like the NZ Article alerts that lists all the new posts and people can see on their watchlist when new posts are published. This would solve the above problem with the notice board.
  3. Mediawiki message delivery on user talk pages could work but might be annoying for the non-newsletter news items when they are posted days apart (eg recently there were two posts on 27 January and another on 26 January). Message delivery might be good for the newsletter as that is released once a month and wouldn't get annoying. But this might not be useful for people who get emailed the newsletters.
  4. Mediawiki emails might be useful for the newsletter and non-newsletter posts.

In the sunny days of the early internet there was this plan to reuse content via the RSS and OAI-PMH. Do any of the current generation of wiki tools support either of these protocols? Being able to write the content in one place and have it appear in others as appropriate would be very useful. How do we say Peter Sinclair (broadcaster) was gay without saying he was gay?

It's like everyone knew it, but he never publicly said anything about it. He just didn't want to talk about it publicly or be any kind of public gay icon or spokesman which is totally fair enough. But that leaves us with the question of how to deal with it on Wikipedia. Maybe he's been dead long enough that we don't have to skirt around it so much per WP:BLP? Another example of a Kiwi who 'everyone knew' was gay, but whose Wikipedia page makes no mention of it is Max Cryer. In both cases, the person chose to keep this private, and without a reliable source, we shouldn't mention it. Fran Collett

The current New Zealand Listener (dated 14 February 2026, with the cover story "Cover Up! Sex, Politics and Spies"), covers the career of NZ's first woman reporter in the Parliamentary press gallery on pp 16–23, although overly emphasizing the lurid details. This would make a great resource if anyone would be interested in writing a Wikipedia article about her. There's a brief mention of her in Te Ara: The Encyclopedia of New Zealand: Press gallery: first woman reporter and at the National Library of New Zealand: Collett, Bebe Fran, 1936-1972. As far as I can see, the Listener article is not online (and would be subscription only, but I have a sub). February 2026 New Zealand storms

Was wondering if I should do an article on the February 2026 New Zealand storms. There has been at least one death from a driver whose car was submerged in the North Island. There have been states of emergency being declared in five districts, some communities being isolated by flood damage to roads and infrastructure and a landslide in Musselburgh, Dunedin. Dated sub categorisations in Category:New Zealand people of World War I

If you look at Category:New Zealand people of World War I, there are three subcats, Category:New Zealand women in World War I, Category:New Zealand military personnel of World War I and Category:New Zealand anti–World War I activists. There are three separate issues with this: (a) Category:New Zealand women in World War I is largely made up of female nurses; but these people were organised as units of the military, so they should be under Category:New Zealand military personnel of World War I, but they largely aren't. This is a classic gender assumption, which was admittedly reflected the media of the time. (b) People like Archibald Baxter were regarded by the state as Category:New Zealand military personnel of World War I (given uniforms, pay books, placed on troop ships, etc, etc) but regarded by themselves as Category:New Zealand anti–World War I activists. I think they should be in both cats, but they're not. (c) New Zealand's war effort was led by politicians who declared, promoted, funded and legislated the war, I believe that these people are at least as much "New Zealand people of World War I" as the nurses and activists. (d) Many New Zealanders served in Non New Zealand military units, I think we need Category:New Zealand people of World War I serving in foreign militaries. Thoughts? Australia has similar categories within Category:Australian people of World War I. However, Category:Australian anti–World War I activists is not linked to that category at all. Category:British people of World War I also has a similar but better-developed structure, and Category:British anti–World War I activists is a member of it. Based on this, it looks like the NZ categories are within Wikipedia norms, and any change proposal might benefit from wider consultation, perhaps with Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/World War I task force.-Gadfium (talk) 22:14, 22 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Ministry for the Environment

I have been updating the Ministry for the Environment (New Zealand) article in light of the Government's plans to disestablish it and merge it into the new Ministry of Cities, Environment, Regions and Transport. There is a lot of promotional content about its functions and works that appear to have been inserted by a Ministry staffer back in 2024.
