Question from FrustratedGamer0909 on User:Theroadislong (13:50, 23 January 2026)

Hi Jay Cubby,

Could you help me with this situation?

How do I report a user for harrassment on Wikipedia?

I posted a question on Teahouse and Privacy talk page. I got most help on Teahouse but they also took serious issues with my use of chatgpt.

i understand the sentiment against AI, but I don't think smart use of AI should be banned. On my teahouse question thread, I have explained in full details how ChatGPT is my accomodation for my ADHD and how I monitor it for accuracy of source. I have also assured that I won't disrespect any Wikipedia rule. I think it's unfair to judge me before they see what I produce.

On the Privacy talk page, I accidentally posted the same question at about the same time. But then User:Theroadislong has threatened me with a ban. At this point, I think this harrassment by the community. --FrustratedGamer0909 (talk) 13:50, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@FrustratedGamer0909, Theroadislong was fairly reasonable. ChatGPT has a tendency to hallucinate sources, and it is really not worth using to do research for you. That is why it is discouraged. I'm sorry to hear you feel off-put but the Wikipedia community strongly discourages AI use. JayCubby 14:10, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
It's not about being reasonable. I understand Wikipedia community discourages AI. But I haven't even written something, how can you threaten and judge me before I even write something? before you even see what I have produce! I don't even have anything in drafts man! And what he said wasn't a statement, he said it as a threat. FrustratedGamer0909 (talk) 14:48, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@FrustratedGamer0909, he is telling you how it will be received. Please just don't use it and instead verify sources yourself. JayCubby 14:51, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I have time and again mentioned I am verifying sources. I am not dumb. I have been using ChatGPT for over a year and my outputs got pretty good. So much so that I will soon be producing my own course on responsible and ethical use of AI.
I have clarified my stance. I have showed I use AI and what guardrails I have in place. I have seen how it is received already, I don't need to be told how it will be received. He has seen it how it has been received. Yet continues to press me on this point and has gone on to basically threaten me.
Every single reply I have mentioned the same. Yet now it has progressed to receiving threats of a ban.
How is that fair? He is a senior editor, I've seen it. How is it not a threat then? FrustratedGamer0909 (talk) 14:58, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@FrustratedGamer0909, if you verify claims, then it's OK. Each statement must be checked, because ChatGPT loves nothing more than to make things up. JayCubby 15:02, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, I can train people on how to do that! I don't use ChatGPT to write things. I have seen all the legal cases with hallucinated precedents, the deloitte case where AI was used to fake a full consultancy report in Australia, and all that shit. I have worked very very hard to develop my rock hard process and I use chatgpt as my ND accomodation. I am very conscious of my work.
But I do want to report him. I will not tolerate harrassment. Please guide me. FrustratedGamer0909 (talk) 15:08, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@FrustratedGamer0909, that is well below the bar for action. It is certainly BITEy, but nothing more. JayCubby 15:09, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. This is where I would request you to remind him of this policy in his comment on my question (on the privacy talk page)
Here is the link:
Wikipedia talk:Copyrights#c-Theroadislong-20260122172800-FrustratedGamer0909-20260122161300 FrustratedGamer0909 (talk) 15:18, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Is it really acceptable on Wikipedia to threaten someone with a ban without even saying what they produce? Is that the official policy? FrustratedGamer0909 (talk) 14:49, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
seeing* not saying FrustratedGamer0909 (talk) 14:50, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
What this means is Wikipedia community doesn't just discourage AI, it discourages asking genuine questions and problems that have nothing to do with AI and will harass people because they mentioned using ChatGPT? Doesn't this discourage participation? FrustratedGamer0909 (talk) 14:54, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@FrustratedGamer0909, unfortunately, there have been so many problems relating to AI use that the community has little patience for even good-faith users. JayCubby 14:57, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Please tell me how to register a formal complaint or report a user. Other people using shit outputs of AI doesn't I am letting AI run amok. I am not even copy pasting AI, I am actively changing it. I am not responsible for the mess that happened previously. so please tell me if there's a way to report him.. FrustratedGamer0909 (talk) 15:00, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@FrustratedGamer0909 Respectfully, it's not very difficult to find Wikipedia's dispute resolution mechanisms. But separately, Theroadislong wrote a single, short statement to you; nowhere in that statement did I see anything "reportable". They have every right to be a bit frustrated with your unwillingness to accept that most editors are deeply skeptical of the use of LLMs/AI for editing because of the widespread damage it causes and the amount of work required to clean up that damage. JayCubby told you as much and explained why Theroadislong's response was not beyond the pale, so please stop asking them to intervene on your behalf where no intervention is warranted. 19h00s (talk) 15:43, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
As JayCubby confirmed, it is certainly a BITE. It is fair for me to ask him to remind theroadislong about the rule on my behalf. And I made a request coz JayCubby is my mentor. If they are not willing to, I was not aware. Had Jay made me aware of his unwillingness, I would remind them of the policy myself. FrustratedGamer0909 (talk) 16:04, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) You can report editors here Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents I didn't threaten you with a ban I am not an admin, I am an editor just like you, I merely warned you that continuing to use AI on Wikipedia would likely lead to you being blocked. Theroadislong (talk) 15:45, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
You did read my responses on the other page where you saw my question?
The ban thing was said with far more of certainty than just "likely lead you being blocked"
And you said without even seeing what I wrote, I haven't submitted a single draft yet. FrustratedGamer0909 (talk) 16:00, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
This is exactly what I said "I strongly suggest you STOP using ChatGPT now, you will likely be blocked if you continue to edit using LLM." Theroadislong (talk) 16:06, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
How do you know I have submitted anything using LLM? I am only discussing it now. And while I have mentioned it, you do not have access to the document I have stored in a private folder. You are essentially telling me to stop using LLM, without a proof that I am violating any Wikipedia policy. If you had said so after I submitted something that was worthy of being tagged as a violation of Wikipedia's chatgpt policy, I would have understood. But coz I have not submitted anything on Wikipedia, you cannot determine if I have violated any Wiki policy.
Here is your first statement: "I strongly suggest you STOP using ChatGPT now". Look at this last word, it marks urgency. You are not telling me to stop talking about chatgpt publicly (which in effect would also be harrassment, regardless of how the community views on AI). Effectively, you tried to stop me using LLM for anything whatsoever. and then reminded me it was likely to be banned.
You are very senior user. you may not be an admin, but you are certainly not an editor like me (obvious from your profile). It is not your job to remind me policy without quoting the policy.
Others are also saw me talk about ChatGPT on my Teahouse question. They tried to help. They saw my other replies and they tried to understand.
You came on the second question and THREATENED ME with a ban. How am I not to interpret that "I will likely be banned if I don't stop using CHatgpt NOW" coming from a senior editor WITH MULTIPLE AWARDS like you as a threat? FrustratedGamer0909 (talk) 16:26, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
OK... I apologise for the perceived threat, now please WP:DROPTHESTICK and begin to actually improve Wikipedia, (without LLM usage) that is what we are all her for. Theroadislong (talk) 16:40, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Good. I appreciate and accept the apology. :)
And I did do a rigorous MANUAL rechecking of all my sources and the tone to make sure everything was up to snuff and removed what was not sufficiently backed. I used the links someone gave me in that Teahouse thread to guide my actions.
Will publish it in a few days, hopefully next week. FrustratedGamer0909 (talk) 19:14, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from TVC-24 (19:52, 23 January 2026)

Hello, Is there a means by which I could link a article with a (slightly) different name to a phrase in an article, without changing that phrase? --TVC-24 (talk) 19:53, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, using a piped link:
For example, if the article title to link to is Solar power but the text says “renewable power”, you can write:
[[Solar power|renewable power]]
The reader will see “renewable power”, but clicking it will take them to the Solar power article. JayCubby 20:12, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you!
I figured this out shortly after; however, how 'unrelated' can it be (id assume linking a field to a group of individuals who study that field is alright e.g: 'philosophers'-->'philosophy') TVC-24 (talk) 20:35, 23 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@IdiehI, see Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Trademarks "Miss Great Britain®", Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Words_to_watch#Unsupported_attributions: prestigious national beauty pageant. There is far too much focus on Singh in your version. JayCubby 19:10, 5 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Okay thanks I will give it another go! IdiehI (talk) 17:07, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@IdiehI, glad to hear that. Should you need any more help, feel free to ask. JayCubby 17:09, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Jay.. onto my next one now! :) IdiehI (talk) 09:23, 10 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from JordyGrey (23:42, 5 February 2026)

Hello! I'm not really sure what I'm looking for, but if you have a moment I need some help with some vandalism, as I don't know how to fix it: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Frugal_folk_hero&oldid=419532415 this is a nonsense redirect and Rob Ford has never been known by this nickname. --JordyGrey talk 23:42, 5 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@JordyGrey, good find! I have put the redirect up for discussion at Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion/Log/2026_February_5#Frugal_folk_hero. JayCubby 23:45, 5 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from FlamingMrshmallow (17:29, 8 February 2026)

Hey! Is it possible to save an article you want to edit on your dashboard somewhere? And I also got the impression that you can create a sandbox for a specific article... did I misunderstand something? I tried going back and reference the wiki trainings, but nothing looks the same and I'm so confused. Your help is appreciated!! --FlamingMrshmallow (talk) 17:29, 8 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@FlamingMrshmallow
You can (and should!) make your own personal sandbox, for example: User:FlamingMrshmallow/Article X Sandbox. There's no great way to save articles. Bookmarking it might work. JayCubby 18:05, 8 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! When you say bookmark are you referring to the watchlist or something else? FlamingMrshmallow (talk) 01:50, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@FlamingMrshmallow, the watchlist is for tracking edits/changes to articles, but in theory it could be used to compile a list. I was talking about your computer/phone's bookmarks bar. JayCubby 01:57, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Ohh that makes sense. Thank you :) FlamingMrshmallow (talk) 02:41, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Jloljtoh (10:06, 10 February 2026)

hello jaycubby, i was wondering; what if i edit the article wrong? is there any chance that theres punishment or do i just have to wait for other people to fix it if i don’t know what i did wrong? --Jloljtoh (talk) 10:06, 10 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Jloljtoh, you should not be afraid to edit. The edits you made were improvements (a summary of link policy can be found at Wikipedia:Linking dos and don'ts), and unless you vandalize (adding gibberish to articles, that sort of thing), you should not worry about being blocked.
If you make a mistake, someone catches it quickly. I made some when I was new to editing. Cheers! JayCubby 15:47, 10 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Tigerfisherman on Allan Savory (21:20, 12 February 2026)

Hello, how do I edit a page when I only get edit source and a mass of print comes up with no pictures? Page Allan Savory --Tigerfisherman (talk) 21:20, 12 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Tigerfisherman, that is because the page is protected. High-traffic articles are often protected to minimize disruption. To edit, submit an edit request. JayCubby 02:10, 13 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from JRitacco (22:22, 12 February 2026)

On the page for Marek Szczęsny: 1. The "Solo exhibitions" and "Group exhibitions" lists are ordered in descending order... would date lists like this always be ordered as such?

2. At the bottom of the "Group exhibitions" list, there are 2 items:

   - 30 January - 13 March 2015, Marek Szczęsny, l’étrangère
   - 23 Jun 2016 – 31 Jul 2016, Layered Narratives: Collage/Photomontage/Print, l'étrangère

Does "30 January" need to be followed by a year, as is the case with "23 Jun 2016"? Or can the year be removed from the latter? --JRitacco (talk) 22:22, 12 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@JRitacco:
1. You are indeed right. They should be sorted oldest first, per Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Lists#Sorting_a_list.
2. Probably not, it would be redundant. I've fixed it.
Let me know if you need anything more. JayCubby 02:13, 13 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Kolegregory123 (14:44, 18 February 2026)

What is the limit for people you can add to a name list article? --Kolegregory123 (talk) 14:44, 18 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Kolegregory123, there is no limit to the number of names, but each person must have an article. See, for example, John Smith JayCubby 14:48, 18 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Lokmanch (05:09, 19 February 2026)

Hello JayCubby, I’m a new Wikipedia editor and currently working on improving and creating biography articles. I’d really appreciate your guidance on notability, sourcing, and how to avoid deletion issues. Thank you for your support. --Lokmanch (talk) 05:09, 19 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) There's a great page at Help:Your first article that would be a good place to start. Ravensfire (talk) 14:30, 19 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
