Crash Smash, etc.
Do you think we could clarify what a crash smash or similar things are for users? Since it's not a traditional award, I think if it's in the article some prose about what it actually means might be good. It's not as obvious as let's sayyyy "Game of the Month" or "Best*whatever genre*" or *best for this system" type of deal. Thoughts? Andrzejbanas (talk) 02:23, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
- That makes sense. You're right that the context isn't there for contemporary readers who haven't read old gaming magazines. I started adding the month and year in the award section for such accolades to give more context, but I agree a little more would be good. I'll have to search for the first issues of those magazines to see if they explicitly describe what the award is and the criteria. If it can't be added to the prose appropriately, at least a footnote providing that context would be helpful. (Guyinblack25 talk 02:36, 23 October 2025 (UTC))
- Sounds good! Also, sorry for adding this to the top of your page! This happens sometimes when I comment via my phone. What bad wiki etiquette. Andrzejbanas (talk) 12:22, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
- No worries. The mobile version definitely has its quirks.
- Also, still searching but I came across this Eurogamer article, which touches on the publisher perception of the Crash Smash. Not helpful to providing clarification but found it interesting. (Guyinblack25 talk 17:12, 23 October 2025 (UTC))
- @Andrzejbanas: I looked through several issue of Crash and here's what I've found:
- The first three issues had a special section/distinction for "Games of the Month"; maybe 2-3 games that were highlighted
- In issue 4, this was changed to "Crash Smashes" with around 2-3 games highlighted. The layout was identical (yellow pages with the same font for the accolade title)
- Almost all of these had an overall rating 90% or higher. I saw at least one that was below that though. At the time, the overall rating was an average of the component ratings for graphics, playability, etc.
- Something of note - they awarded a computer science book a Crash Smash as well (no rating score, just the distinction).
- In issue 17, they changed the overall rating to a separate score instead of an average. They also changed the description of the scores to say that 90% and above was a Crash Smash.
- Also saw game advertisements in the magazine promoting the fact the game was a Crash Smash.
- So it looks like it started as a "games of the month" and morphed into a high score award. I think describing it as a top accolade suffices. What are your thoughts? (Guyinblack25 talk 06:09, 26 October 2025 (UTC))
- Thank you for the research! I tried a very brief hunt before to try and clarify where they explained what qualifies as a "Crash Smash". I think if we can use it as a cute it explains it. Maybe as a foot note? But doesn't hurt to just have it in the prose in some articles. So glad these mags are easy to find and browse now to clarify this stuff. Andrzejbanas (talk) 14:58, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- Gave foot notes a try at Cauldron II: The Pumpkin Strikes Back. Thoughts? (Guyinblack25 talk 23:11, 26 October 2025 (UTC))

Gridiron!
Hi! :) Can you help expand Gridiron! (Bethesda's first game)? Timur9008 (talk) 17:07, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Timur9008: Hey there. The article looks to have a decent amount of content already, and I'm not familiar with the topic/sources. So I'm not sure how much I can do, but I can take a look after I finish a few other things on my plate at the moment. At the very least, I can do a copy edit. (Guyinblack25 talk 13:56, 5 May 2025 (UTC))
- copy edit would be great :) Timur9008 (talk) 08:19, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Timur9008: I copy edited the existing text and added a gameplay screenshot. One thing that should be addressed is the mention of being "Sports Game of the Year". While there are two sources for it, neither indicated who awarded that distinction and only mention it in a historical context. Such a claim should be attributed to the publication in 1986 that made that distinction. Aside from that, the article is shaping up well. With more sources to expand the content in all three sections, this could make it to Good Article status with a little more work. Hope it helps. (Guyinblack25 talk 18:35, 17 May 2025 (UTC))
- Actually there are three sources for this [1]. But yeah I can't find who gave the award. Timur9008 (talk) 23:52, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Timur9008: Wow. I'm surprised that none of them have any type of attribution. Maybe see if User:Cukie Gherkin is able to find an original source from 1986? If nothing can be found though, I'd say that phrase should be removed. (Guyinblack25 talk 02:57, 19 May 2025 (UTC))

- Highly unlikely that this is findable - it may be by anyone in any language, online or print, live or defunct. I only found Happy Computer to have handed out such an award that year, and that went to World Games. Bethesda's old history page even claims the Atari ST port won the same award in the following year, but with no reference to who handed it out. Speaking of: That page says the Atari ST port was released in 1987, which does the article say 1986? IceWelder [✉] 10:49, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Timur9008: in that case, the "game of the year" statement should be removed since it doesn't look like it's verifiable. Maybe the information is just lost, but without verification we shouldn't include it on Wikipedia. (Guyinblack25 talk 14:51, 20 May 2025 (UTC))

- Do you any of you know where to check the Codie winners for 1986? Timur9008 (talk) 14:38, 23 July 2025 (UTC)

GA review
Hi there. In the past months, I have been nominating Buriki One and other SNK articles. Now I only have nominated The King of Fighters 2001 which hasn't got a review so if possible could you give it a look? It's a small article since the game wasn't commericalized on its own in Western regions. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 18:53, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- I might have time to do a copy edit over the weekend. My free time has been starting to shrink lately; I've slowed down to a crawl on the things I've been working on. (Guyinblack25 talk 21:16, 6 June 2025 (UTC))
- @Tintor2: I finished the copy edits. I recommend double checking the content and sources. I read a few of the sources to get more context for the edits, but I didn't dive that deep. I remember being confused with the aftermath of SNK's split and the character inclusion in the Development section. As a side note, I've never been a fan of lengthy character lists in fighting game articles, though I realize that is the standard convention. Also, I'm not familiar with the game and the many characters, so I doubt I could write a proper prose version. Anyway, hope it helps. (Guyinblack25 talk 13:38, 10 June 2025 (UTC))

DYK for Ducks Ahoy!
On 21 June 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ducks Ahoy!, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the developers of Ducks Ahoy! deliberately omitted violence from the game? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ducks Ahoy!. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Ducks Ahoy!), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. The Terminator: Future Shock
Hi! Can you help copyedit The Terminator: Future Shock? And do you think the article can be considered B or C class now. Timur9008 (talk) 09:25, 5 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Timur9008: I took a look and reassessed it to C class. The article certainly has potential. A good copy edit will easily bring it up to B class. I haven't looked at the sources yet, but GA class might be possible with enough polish. I can try to do a quick copy edit this week; the Space Invaders FAR has eaten up much of the limited free time that I have right now. (Guyinblack25 talk 03:38, 7 July 2025 (UTC))
- Thanks! I've trying my hardest to find sources for Future Shock. That and the article has been stuck at start class for many years now. Timur9008 (talk) 03:48, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Timur9008: I finished copy editing. Here's a list of things to will take the article to a higher quality rating.
- Some more gameplay details. Nothing excessive, but what's there doesn't provide a lot.
- More development sources. What is there is kinda thin.
- Expand reception, especially using the scores in the review table. I believe any review score must have accompanying prose that provides commentary.
- Happy editing. (Guyinblack25 talk 21:44, 20 July 2025 (UTC))
- Thank you! :) I will try find more development sources. It will take some doing probably though considering it took years to find those sources in the first place. Timur9008 (talk) 16:39, 21 July 2025 (UTC)

The 10th Planet
Hi! Can you help copyedit The 10th Planet? Timur9008 (talk) 21:10, 3 October 2025 (UTC)
- Yea. It's a short article, so I can try to do that soon. Just at a cursory glance, you might want to see if there is more content to add. Even though there are a decent number of sources, they need to meet a threshold of significant coverage. (Guyinblack25 talk 04:52, 4 October 2025 (UTC))
- There are more sources on the talk page. Timur9008 (talk) 08:09, 4 October 2025 (UTC)
- Although I'm not sure if it's possible to expand the development section. Timur9008 (talk) 08:32, 4 October 2025 (UTC)
- I copy edited what was there and combine sections (several of them were pretty short). I didn't touch the lead because I assume the extra sources could expand the article further and it's typically better to save lead rewrites until after an article is expanded. Hope it helps. (Guyinblack25 talk 16:53, 5 October 2025 (UTC))

- Can it be considred Star class now? Timur9008 (talk) 04:14, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
- It's right on the edge, in my opinion. Some might still consider it a stub, others might consider it start-class. Is there more content to expand the sections or add a reception/legacy section? Maybe some media (logo, early screenshot, developer photos, etc.) to add? (Guyinblack25 talk 17:06, 23 October 2025 (UTC))

Help with Japanese
Hi there. I found a certain archived magazines that detailed sketches of two characters I wrote: Ash Crimson and Kyo Kusanagi. I found the sketches of Ash Crimson here but even with google translator I can't find who was credited for the designing such individual. Google translate helps to explain commentary for sketches but I can't find the actual artist behind the character. The same happened with Kyo who was redesigned as explored here but I can't tell if the artist is credited. I was wondering if you could check it you. I'm not confident but many people believe the designs were made two artists who never use their real names: Nona or Falcoon. Anyway, happy editing.Tintor2 (talk) 18:47, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry. Nothing jumped out at me as to who did those sketches; I didn't read the whole book though. All I noticed was that Falcoon is credited for the cover art and comic at the beginning. There's also an interview with him on page 131, which provides a few tidbits (approximate age, childhood hobbies, etc.) that could add to his Wikipedia article. The sketches themself contain descriptive notes about the character designs but no artist credit or signature. (Guyinblack25 talk 22:45, 23 October 2025 (UTC))
- I see. Still, thanks for checking it. Tintor2 (talk) 22:54, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
Sorry for bothering but I found another [4] for both Kyo Kusanagi and K'. The former was just redesigned as he was created in 1994 but in 1999 was redesigned. I believe the main artist behind these sketch is supposed to be "styleos" whose real name is Toshiyuki Kotani.Tintor2 (talk) 16:13, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
- No worries. But sorry again, same thing. I didn't come across an artist credit. The sketches have only descriptive notes about the character designs and they are labeled as original art collection. Other things that might be useful are: a KOF 99 glossary of terms on page 121, a developer talk about one of The Last Blade games (not sure which one) on page 122, a developer Q&A about Leona on page 134, voice actor profiles about Kunihiko Yasui and Harumi Ikoma on page 136/137. All of which might be useful for their respective articles. (Guyinblack25 talk 22:36, 25 October 2025 (UTC))
- Still thanks. It took me a while but the credits display both voice actors and designers in each game. Sadly, Leona's article was merged so I adding that to the list would be undue weight. Cheers. Tintor2 (talk) 22:41, 25 October 2025 (UTC)

DYK for Super Robin Hood
On 24 December 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Super Robin Hood, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Maid Marian in Super Robin Hood was voiced by the developers' mother? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Super Robin Hood. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Super Robin Hood), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to nominate it.

Question
Hi! :) Since you asked about Mario Teaches Typing, can you get Gridiron! to GA as well? The reason I ask is because Bethesda Softworks as a company turns 40 this year. (in June) Timur9008 (talk) 11:25, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
- Maybe. I may not be able to edit as much this year, and between the various projects, I've been bringing my old GAs up to current standards. After Mario Teaches Typing, I was going to work on Defender and its sequel. I can see after those, but I'm honestly not sure how long it will take me because my pace has been rather slow. Retired?
A shame you Will be busy but wondered if you enjoyed Yoko Taro's games to tell you I made an article about his first protagonist, Caim (Drakengard). Feel free to edit it Tintor2 (talk) 23:03, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
- I'm not familiar with his work, but I'll give the character a read and maybe copy edit later. I'm currently giving a second opinion GA review, have an article queued for GAN, and am cleaning up another for a future GAN, so it may be a while before I have a chance.
