The Type 707 tankers are a series of replenishment oilers under construction for the German Navy to provide underway replenishment for its ships at sea. Procurement of two vessels was announced in July 2019, with delivery intended in 2025 to replace the Rhön-class tankers which are scheduled to be retired that same year.^[1]

The project's general contractor is NVL Group, which is cooperating with Meyer Werft.^[7] The hulls are built by Neptun Werft in Warnemünde, which is part of the Meyer Group, the superstructure at Meyer Werft, Papenburg.^[8][9][10]

Construction of the first ship started on 29 June 2023 at Meyer Werft, Papenburg.^[11] The keel was laid on 8 August 2023 at Neptun Werft.^[12] Construction of the second ship started on 29 February 2024 at Meyer Werft.^[13][14] The keel was laid on 25 April 2024.^[15] Some sections are also being built at Stahlbau Nord, Bremerhaven. The Hull is 24 meters high.^{[16][17][18][19]}

The front part of the hull of the second ship was built at Neptun Werft and transferred to the Meyer Werft in March 2025. Unlike the first ship the hull wasn't built completely at Neptun Werft, because the Neptun Werft needs the capacities for new ships for Viking River Cruise Line.^[20]
