In the part of the article "Early life", it is said that Robert Menzies had two elder brothers and another younger one. But in the summary information under his photograph, high in the page at the right, only one brother is mentioned. Or..., are those only the ones with a wiki page?

Actually, my interest is about Evatt, reffered in a book as "the brother of the Australian prime minister", in the year 1958. My search so far only shows an Evatt who was a leader of the opposition. So I beginning to think that this book reference might be wrong.

The Mingis pronunciation was favoured by Menzies, leading him to be known as "Ming the Merciless". There was also an ABC broadcaster known as Bruce Menzies (Mingis). The pronunciation is thus not unknown in Australia. Jack Upland (talk) 08:19, 15 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I stand corrected: you've helped me to remember Bruce Menzies. As for "Ming the Merciless", which I also remember, it's drawing a long bow to attribute it to the Scottish pronunciation. My father was a Scottish pedant, and he pronounced it Mingis and complained when people (invariably) said "Menzees", though I expect it was also because he hated Menzies's guts. So there's two people who used it. Conclusion: the pronunciation was exceptionally rare in Australia -- sufficient, I believe, to justify my changing the sequence. And it still is: refer to "Bob Mingis" nowadays and the only reaction you'll get is "Huh?". I would appreciate your restoring my edit. I don't think anyone has said that Mingis is the primary pronunciation; it is just the original and the correct pronunciation, and it is the one that Menzies favoured. It is also the source for the nickname Ming the Merciless, as I said.--Jack Upland (talk) 23:38, 2 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
