Accidents and incidents

  • On May 9, 2007, a Cessna 172 Skyhawk crashed while landing at the Shelby Community Runway when it departed the end of the runway, crossed a road, and nosed over in a ditch. The pilot reported he touched down halfway down the runway and did not have sufficient length to stop. The probable cause of the accident was found to be the pilot's failure to properly achieve the correct touch down point .[3]
