"Please Don't Go" is a song by American singer Tank. It was written and produced along with Lonny Bereal for his third studio album Sex, Love & Pain (2007). It was released by Blackground Records as the album's first single. The single sat at number one on the US Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart for more than six weeks.

Background and composition

“Please Don’t Go” is a piano-driven R&B ballad. Rolling Stone characterized its lyrics as "fully of frothy, I-might-die-if-you-leave-me drama". The song was recorded as an afterthought on Tank's last day in a rented studio: “I’ve always pushed to expand the brand sonically,” he says. “But ultimately, fans want a thing from you. They’re like, ‘OK, listen, you can dance around, go to a strip club, but at some point, I’m gonna need you to help me save my relationship.’ That’s their request.”[2]

Critical reception

Rolling Stone listed "Please Don't Go" among the 100 best R&B songs of the 21st century, commenting that on the song "[Tank] delivers a sensual performance as he dresses himself down for his infidelities, asking all men to do better."[3]

Music video

On December 31, 2007, the music video for "Please Don't Go" appeared at number 94 on BET's Notarized: Top 100 Videos of 2007 countdown.

Remix

The official remix is called "Please Don't Go (The TGT Remix)", and features TGT bandmates Ginuwine and Tyrese Gibson, this is TGT's first single as a group.
