On display at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco. 2004.113a-b. The reverse side of the teapot has a male face and a sunflower instead of an Arum lily. See: https://www.flickr.com/photos/wordster1028/2494245274/. The description on Flickr says: "it is reminiscient of classic busts of Janus in these opposing features. The Museum provided the following information: 'Inscribed on the underside: "Fearful consequences through the laws of Natural Selection and Evolution of living up to one's Teapot.' This teapot is a satire on the utterances of... Darwinism, and the Aesthetic movement, which swept England and America in the 1870s and 1880s. |
