This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Sierra Leone. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Sierra Leone|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Sierra Leone. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Sierra Leone
- Jimmy Massallay (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
Declined prod. The added source (the only non database one) is just a 1 line mention and not SIGCOV to meet WP:SPORTSCRIT. The only coverage I could find is a lab manager of the same name in Sierra Leone, it could be him but doesn't really add to notability. LibStar (talk) 22:29, 9 March 2025 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: Sportspeople, Olympics, Sport of athletics, and Sierra Leone. LibStar (talk) 22:29, 9 March 2025 (UTC)
- Note that subject qualified for the Olympics in three different events, which is exceptional for a Sierra Leonean athlete. Finding sources is notoriously difficult for these sorts of athletes, but it's clear that Sierra Leonean newspapers do exist and were operational during the 1980s when Massallay would have been covered. The WP:Verifiable information we have indicates that coverage is out there, but it likely isn't digitized. I would at least attempt making a contact request out to some of those papers before !voting delete. --Habst (talk) 00:28, 10 March 2025 (UTC)

Declined prod with very weak reason "Sounds a notable athlete". Could not find coverage to meet WP:SPORTSCRIT. LibStar (talk) 09:15, 8 March 2025 (UTC)

- The PROD was declined by what seems like a good faith IP editor who, by evidence of their contributions, seems to have some knowledge of global athletics. Why did they consider the athlete notable? Do they have access to sources? I would oppose deletion until these questions are answered at least. --Habst (talk) 00:10, 9 March 2025 (UTC)
- If you support keep, please provide sources as per normal practice in AfD. LibStar (talk) 03:19, 9 March 2025 (UTC)
- It's a normal practice, but not a necessary one. I searched for sources when this was PRODed and couldn't find any, but as with many of your recent AfDs I doubt the sources that covered the subject are digitized. --Habst (talk) 12:08, 9 March 2025 (UTC)

Nominated by 99.142.64.153 (talk · contribs) for the following reason:
I feel she should be deleted because I couldn't find any sources that mention her competing in any Olympic events and she doesn't seem to have any coverage from local events either. I don't think this article should exist just because she was nominated for an Olympic team.
This is a procedural nomination; I am neutral. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 00:51, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
- I added several sources that cover high school and collegiate track accomplishments, some of which I added to the article. Nnev66 (talk) 21:28, 20 February 2025 (UTC)

- Delete. Her accomplishments do not appear to satisfy WP:NTRACK, and a couple of short newspaper articles are little more than announcements from her hometown paper[1] or university-related,[2][3] so WP:GNG isn't satisfied. Clarityfiend (talk) 03:51, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
- Delete. Had no career on the international level, therefore only local coverage. Geschichte (talk) 11:21, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
- Strong keep. Per Tilastopaja the subject was nominated for the Canadian 2016 Olympic team and competed at the 2015 World University Games advancing to the semi-finals and finals, so the statement that she "had no career on the international level" simply isn't correct. Subject was also the 2016 Bajan national champion over 100m so she fulfills WP:TRACK prong 1 and prong 4, it's incorrect to say that she doesn't satisfy NTRACK.
- Now getting to the actual coverage, above article from the Springfield News-Leader can't be dismissed outright because it's a "local paper" -- that still qualifies as "independent" per the WP:GNG definition,
"Independent of the subject" excludes works produced by the article's subject or someone affiliated with it. For example, advertising, press releases, autobiographies, and the subject's website are not considered independent
. - I've found several other high quality GNG-contributing sources, for example:
- "Guleph sprinter proves she belongs with Canada's best". Waterloo Region Record. 16 Jul 2016. p. 1. Retrieved 16 February 2025.
- "Olympic potential seen by teacher". Waterloo Region Record. 16 Jul 2016. p. 2. Retrieved 16 February 2025.
- "Missouri State track star will run for Canada". The Springfield News-Leader. 12 Jul 2016. p. D1. Retrieved 16 February 2025.
- "Kurtimah finishes 13th in 100-meter dash at World University Games". The Springfield News-Leader. 10 Jul 2015. p. D4. Retrieved 16 February 2025.
- "Royal City showdown fizzles". Guelph Mercury. 11 Jun 2012. p. B1. Retrieved 16 February 2025.
- "Triple threat off to blistering start". Guelph Mercury. 1 Jun 2013. p. 13. Retrieved 16 February 2025.
- The next step is to improve the article using these sources, which I think I can take on in the coming days. But the case for deletion isn't backed up by P&G with the newly found sources. --Habst (talk) 14:10, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
- "Being nominated" counts for nothing in a career, and the World University Games is not an international meet - it's an international age-specific (and profession-specific, really) meet. "Strong keep" is ridiculous and you still mix in routine coverage with other coverage. Geschichte (talk) 16:29, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Geschichte, greatly respect your contributions but I disagree with both points. Being nominated can count for something in a career, just like being nominated for an award but not winning it can still be career-defining. And of course the World University Games is an international meet in the same way that the World Athletics U20 Championships is; athletes compete representing their country. I think based on the sources a strong keep view is justified. --Habst (talk) 13:35, 24 February 2025 (UTC)

- Keep: The coverage uncovered by Habst isn't the most impressive, but it appears to have enough combined independent coverage about the subject to meet WP:NBASIC. Let'srun (talk) 04:05, 17 February 2025 (UTC)

- Keep There is enough here for the article to be kept. The article isn’t brilliant but there is enough coverage. ScrabbleTiles (talk) 11:05, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
