Managing a conflict of interest
Hello, Danvawter. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Jack Nelson (swimmer), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. --Finngall talk 17:36, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
Help me!
Please help me with...I am unable to remove information from the Jack Nelson (swimmer) page, bc there is a Bot that is continuing to post inaccurate information that is considered defamation of character. The Bot links to an article that does not site legal documentation or evidentiary proof that there was ever anything illegal done by Coach Nelson. He has passed and his family has fought to protect false information from being released. How do I stop this Bot and make sure that accurate, truthful information is contained in Wikipedia?
Danvawter (talk) 19:15, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
- The article is not "under attack by a bot"; it is being edited by human beings. The information in question is cited to what seem to be reliable sources. Wikipedia does not deal in "truth" per se, but in what can be verified. See WP:TRUTH. Sources are provided so readers can judge them for themselves as to their validity or accuracy. If Mr. Nelson was alive, or recently deceased, the Biographies of Living Persons policy would generally prevent the posting of mere accusations against someone. However, he passed in 2014. You can express your concerns on the article talk page (Talk:Jack Nelson (swimmer)), and you or family representatives can follow the instructions at WP:LIBEL if it felt necessary- but I'm not sure you will be able to have the information outright removed. 331dot (talk) 20:42, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
