25 Feb, 2025. I am retired and have time on my hands. I am challenging myself to learn how to become a Wikipedia editor so I can improve articles in areas that are of interest to me. I will use my User:Beanie39 page to track my progress. I am reading "Inside Wikipedia" by Paul A. Thomas. I tried to do the 2014 Online Course "Writing Wikipedia Articles" but after the first session I gave up as the video screen was basically illegible. I am having trouble with the amount of jumping around that is happening among pages, and also don't understand what the "Homepage" tab is that sits next to my "User Page" tab. No doubt all will become clear.
I will now try to create my own sandbox. [[/sandbox]]. I think I created it, but it doesn't show up as a separate tab. This is very confusing.
Decided to work through all the videos on the YouTube "Wikipedia Editing Basics 101" playlist by the WikiShow. Timeout while I do that. I learn best in a structured manner. (NOTE: Plenty to learn here, so will bookmark that playlist.)
Edits for today on this page. 9.
2 March, 2025. Made an entry in the Talk page of Phosphorus about a primary source anecdote. I have also read and bookmarked the following Wikipedia pages which I will now try to link. Not sure when to use shortcut refs. Policies and guidelines; Simplified Manual of Style; Glossary; Reliable sources (an information page not an article so can't link); and No original research.
Worked on the Phosphorus article by adding information and 2 cites about the dangers of pure white phosphorus. Used book I'm reading and then Perplexity to hunt for suitable references.
