==Overview==

VandalProof allows users to peruse recent changes, watch lists, and user contributions; if they find vandalism, in one click they can revert it, post the appropriate warning template on the vandal's talk page, add that person to their blacklist and add the revert to their automated vandalism log (see below).

Further, because many users often neglect to substitute templates on talk pages, when VandalProof posts a warning it automatically substitutes any other test template found on the page. The program also aids in spotting vandalism by highlighting (1) edits by admins and whitelisted users in green and (2) blacklisted users in red. Any edit that modifies other people's userpages — or the user's own talk page — is displayed in bold.

When viewing a change, VandalProof also retrieves information about the user's previous vandalism history. If, for example, the user has been blocked three times, and since the last block, the user has been warned with test1, test2, and test3 (with the last warning issued at 07:07, 5 April 2006 (UTC)), above the browser window you will see "USERNAME: 3 * bl; t1; t2; t3 07:07, 5 April 2006 (UTC)". This is very helpful in determining what warning to issue and/or whether to report the user to [[WP:AIV]] (or block, if you're an admin).

The program also gives users the ability to {{tl|prod}} or nominate articles, images, and redirects for speedy deletion and Interwiki moves with one click. After nominating an article for deletion, you can then click on ''Notify contributors'' to retrieve a list of all contributors to the article (within the last <500 edits) and post a notification (or any other message) on each of their talk pages. VandalProof also provides several other user tools, such as the ability to easily report users to [[WP:AIV]], to monitor user contributions, and to post a variety of common templates and warnings on user talk pages.

VandalProof also keeps track of your reverts and statistics using its VandalismLog feature. Everytime you revert an edit, that edit is stored in your local vandalism log, and, at any time, you can upload your vandalism log and statistics to your userpage. You can see an example of such a vandalism log at [[User:AmiDaniel/VandalismLog]], and I also have my statistics displayed both on my [[User:AmiDaniel|userpage]] and at [[User:AmiDaniel/VandalismStats]]. Whenever it is brought to your attention that you incorrectly reverted an edit, you can very easily change your statistics to reflect this mistake as well as add the mistake to your Incorrectly Reverted Edits log, an example of which can be seen at [[User:AmiDaniel/VandalismMistakes]].

I should also note that, in addition to the warning template posted on the user's talk page, VandalProof also adds detailed information about the reverted edit. Assume, for example, that you reverted an edit I made to my sandbox and warned me with the test2 template. On my talk page it would post:

If you edit the page and look at the warning, you will see that before your signature and after the warning, the number of the reversion is included in the form of a comment (<nowiki><!--RVNUM--></nowiki>). This makes it very easy to locate the edit in your vandalism log and to record the edit as a mistake, if indeed you should discover that the edit is a mistake.

By registering, downloading, and using this tool you agree not to use it in any way that is destructive or harmful, and you further agree to abide by Wikipedia's policies and guidelines when editing with VandalProof. VandalProof is not a bot, and all edits made with it are the responsibility of the user, save for proven cases of application malfunctions.

By default, all edits made using this tool will include in their edit summary "using VandalProof." If you observe anyone making questionable edits with this tool, using this tool in an edit war, or otherwise misusing the tool, please [[User talk:AmiDaniel|contact me]] immediately. Furthermore, if any user of this tool is legitimately blocked for any reason (especially for vandalism or violation of 3RR) and it is reported to me, s/he will no longer be allowed to use VandalProof.

For security and statistical reasons, all users must request permission to use VandalProof before they may use the application. New users with fewer than 250 [[Wikipedia:Namespace|mainspace]] edits and users who have recently been involved in edit wars or have a recent history of vandalism will likely not be accepted. To request permission to use VandalProof, please add your username to the [[User talk:AmiDaniel/VandalProof#Awaiting Approval|Awaiting Approval list]]. Moderators should inform you if you are approved or rejected, but please check back if you have heard nothing in 24 hours.

===(2) Download===

Extract the files from the zip file, and then run the extracted Setup.exe, which will guide you through the process to install VandalProof.
