Ty Hubert Detmer (born October 30, 1967 in San Marcos, Texas), is an American football quarterback who starred at Brigham Young University before beginning his pro career.

High School career

Detmer attended Southwest High School in San Antonio, Texas. He earned letters in golf, football, basketball, baseball, and track. As a senior, he won All-America honors in football and was the Texas Player of the Year. He also won All-State honors in baseball and All-District in basketball. His father, Sonny, was his football coach.

NFL career

Detmer was believed to be too small to play quarterback effectively in the NFL and was passed over until the ninth round when he was drafted by the Green Bay Packers. In four seasons in Green Bay, Detmer threw just 21 passes.

Detmer played for the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, and Cleveland Browns before missing the 2000 season with an injury. He returned to the NFL in 2001 with the Detroit Lions. He currently plays for the Atlanta Falcons.

In 13 NFL seasons, Detmer has played 54 games. He has 6,351 yards, 546 completions on 946 attempts and 34 touchdowns. His brother, Koy Detmer, is a backup quarterback with the Eagles. Interestingly enough, Koy joined the Eagles the year after his brother left, so there has been a Detmer playing for Philadelphia every year since 1996.
