James W. Bierman Jr. is a United States Marine Corps lieutenant general who served as the commanding general of III Marine Expeditionary Force and Marine Forces Japan from 2021 to 2024.[1] He most recently served as Commanding General of the 3rd Marine Division from 12 August 2020 to 8 November 2021.[2] Previously, he served as the Commanding General of the Marine Corps Recruiting Command from 7 June 2018 to 17 July 2020.[3][4][5][6]
In March 2023, Bierman was reassigned as deputy commandant for plans, policies and operations of the United States Marine Corps.[7][8]
On February 26, 2025, Bierman was named the 47th commandant of the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M University. He will assume this role on August 1, 2025, upon his retirement from active duty. [9]
