Deutsch: Die heraldisch stilisierte Abtfigur unterstreicht die historischen Herrschaftsverhältnisse in der vom Zisterzienserstift Waldsassen geprägten Gemeinde; eine Lilie (Marienattribut) führte die Abtei in der zweiten Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts im Wappenschild. Wiese und Bäume spielen auf den Ortsnamen an. Kurfürst Max II. Emmanuel verlieh das Wappen 1693 zusammen mit der Erhebung zum Markt. 1812 musste das Wappen gemäß königlichem Reskript auf eine silberne Lilie in Blau reduziert werden. So erscheint das Wappen auch in der Bürgermeistermedaille von 1819 und in den Siegeln bis 1854. 1855 erfolgte die Wiederverleihung des früheren Wappens durch König Maximilian II. Die Gestaltung wurde durch Otto Hupp 1928 noch etwas vereinfacht. Waldsassen führt seit 1896 die Bezeichnung Stadt. |
