Hot Mess is an upcoming American comedy film directed by Katie Locke O'Brien (in her directorial debut) and written by Gabrielle D'Amico.

Premise

Following a meltdown on a popular American dating program, Laurel Mack faces a humiliating task of returning to her hometown. Unable to find love on the show, Laurel's current situation involves: residing in her parents' basement, lack of friends, frequently encountering her unhappy ex-partner, and enduring relentless ridicule from those who witnessed her embarrassing public breakdown.[1]

In May 2023, Hot Mess was reported to be in pre-production with Katie Locke O'Brien signed on to direct in her directorial debut, from a screenplay by Gabrielle D'Amico. Emma Roberts was cast in the lead role. Principal photography was scheduled for a January 2024 shoot in Los Angeles[1][2]

Release

At the Marché du Film in May 2023, Vertical pre-emptively acquired North American distribution rights to the film.[3]
