WikiProject Ancient Egypt to-do list:
Needed articles.
We should have an article on every pyramid and every nome in Ancient Egypt. I'm sure the rest of us can think of other articles we should have.
Cleanup.
To start with, most of the general history articles badly need attention. And I'm told that at least some of the dynasty articles need work. Any other candidates?
Standardize the Chronology.
A boring task, but the benefit of doing it is that you can set the dates !(e.g., why say Khufu lived 2589-2566? As long as you keep the length of his reign correct, or cite a respected source, you can date it 2590-2567 or 2585-2563)
Stub sorting
Anyone? I consider this probably the most unimportant of tasks on Wikipedia, but if you believe it needs to be done . . .
Data sorting.
This is a project I'd like to take on some day, & could be applied to more of Wikipedia than just Ancient Egypt. Take one of the standard authorities of history or culture -- Herotodus, the Elder Pliny, the writings of Breasted or Kenneth Kitchen, & see if you can't smoothly merge quotations or information into relevant articles. Probably a good exercise for someone who owns one of those impressive texts, yet can't get access to a research library.

Hello! Though not a member of this WikiProject, I have always been interested in Ancient Egyptian history, and got a bit confused yesterday when I stumbled on "Siege of Naqada", an article created at the start of this year. I have read a number of books covering Naqada III, and all of them have argued that we have basically no firm proof for actual military campaigns under Scorpion I (or even for the exact position/power/role of Scorpion I) despite the existence of the Theban Desert Road Survey graffito. Yet this article claims that, somehow, we know about a specific siege, the commanders, and even the numbers of the involved troops? Has there been some kind of breakthrough in archaeology or is this a case of WP:OR? Applodion (talk) 17:10, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's unfortunate nobody replied to you. I've never read any books on ancient Egypt myself, but all does seem very suspicious. I think a case could be made for throwing it to WP:AFD. Koopinator (talk) 14:10, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed this interesting work, that contains in its edges hieroglyphes (most of them Egyptian, few are Prussian symbols). I tried to read them, with no success to identify known words. for example, in the top line: 𓐍𓄿𓃀𓏏𓂝𓈖𓂝𓏭𓅱 𓌣𓌣?𓏭𓏏𓐝𓀨𓇋𓈎𓃀𓂝𓂋 x𓋴𓅱𓇌𓋴𓊪𓃭𓂝𓋹𓏙 𓍸prussia𓈊𓆷/𓋳𓈖𓇳𓍻 𓆥𓈖𓏏𓂻𓏦𓋴... Can anyone clarify whether there is a text in these hieroglyphes or they are just random signs for decoration? פעמי-עליון (pʿmy-ʿlywn) - talk11:59, 8 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I can barely read hieros but I can tell you that the top and sides include the names of Frederick William IV (written as "wylHilmu" in hieroglyphs) and his wife Elizabeth ("ilysAbiTt") and seems to give the king part of a royal titulary like an Egyptian king. Khufu and Merenptah are named down the bottom, along with a lot of numbers (possibly years elapsed). Merytat3n (talk) 09:41, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
