The Portland City Budget Office analyzes and makes recommendations on the city's budget, coordinating the budgets of individual city bureaus, helping Portland leadership make decisions that are financially sound.[3]

Ruth Levine took over interim director in 2024,[4] after director Tim Grewe unexpectedly resigned in May of that year.[5] By 2025, she had been given full directorship of the bureau.[3]

As of January 2025, the city is facing a 27 million dollar budget gap, which could increase by the mayor's budget proposal in May.[6]
