Jos North is a local government area in Plateau State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the city center of Jos. The postal code of the area is 930.[1]

It has an area of 291 km2 and a population of 970,000 at the 2006 census. The ethnic group found in this area include Anaguta. Jos North is the commercial and the most populated city in plateau state nerve centre of the state, as it houses the state's branch of Nigeria's Central Bank; the headquarters of many commercial banks are also located here, as well as the currency exchanges along Ahmadu Bello way. Because of the population and commercial activities the plateau state government has provided trains, metro buses and some commercial vehicle to ease transportation movement All basic and essential services can be found in Jos North from the Jos Main market (terminus) to Kabong or Rukuba Road satellite market; however, due to recent communal clashes, many commercial activities are shifting to Jos South. The Gbong Gwom Jos palace and office is located in an area in Jos North called "Jishe" in Berom language. In 1956, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II together with her consort Prince Philip had a weekend stopover to rest at Jishe known at that time as Tudun Wada cottage during her Nigeria tour. Jos North has a significant slum. Jos North is the location of some institute like University of Jos, Jos University Teaching Hospital,Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Federal College of Forestry,The National Film Institute,Ecwa Seminary, and the National Commission for Museums and Monuments. Both the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA) and the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) are headquartered in this part of the metropolis. Jos North is the home of Plateau United and Mighty jet who plays in the Nigerian leagues. One of the largest dams in Nigeria the liberty dam is located in lamingo Jos North.

Climate

The Jos North LGA has an average annual temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and a total area of 291 square kilometers. The region experiences two distinct seasons, known as the dry and the wet seasons, with an annual total of 1750 mm of precipitation. In Jos North LGA, the average wind speed is 11 km/h.[2][3][4]
