Lee Byung-chul, the founder and former chairman of the South Korean conglomerate Samsung,[1] the country largest chaebol,[2] has family members who are prominent in business, political, cultural and social institution.[3] Since 2022, Samsung chairman is Lee Jae-yong.[4]
History
In 1938 during the Korea under Japanese rule,[5] Lee Byung-chul started Samsung as a trading company in Daegu, South Korea.[6]

Lee Kun-hee (9 January 1942 – 25 October 2020) was a South Korean businessman who served as the chairman of Samsung from 1987 to 2008 and from 2010 to his death in 2020. Lee helped turned his father Lee Byung-chul small trade business into one of the world's biggest tech firms, and diversifying in some areas such as insurance and shipping.[7]
