Life and career

Alabama Luella Barker was born December 24, 2005 in Calabasas, California,[2][1] during the second and final season of her family's TV show, Meet the Barkers.[6][1] She was named after the character Alabama Whitman of the 1993 film True Romance. Less than a year after her birth, in 2006, her parents Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler divorced.[7][1] Through Moakler, she is the half-sister of Atiana de la Hoya.[8] Her father re-married in 2022 to reality star Kourtney Kardashian and Alabama was a bridesmaid at their wedding.[6][5][9]

In 2021 it was reported Alabama and her mother, Shanna Moakler, had little to no contact with each other. Alabama publicly stated "My mom has never completely been in my life."[10] Alabama's brother, Landon Barker, also confirmed this saying their mother "isn't in (their) lives".[11][12] Alabama released her first single "Our House" when she was 12, followed by "Heartbreaker" and then several holiday songs in 2018.[6] She has cited influence from rap and punk rock.[6]

Personal life

In August 2023, Barker revealed she struggles with autoimmune disease and thyroid disease in response to online criticism about her weight and body shaming.[13][14] TMZ reported in December 2024 that she had been was taken to hospital after calling 9-1-1 herself over having nicotine withdrawal, prompting her to state that her hospitalization had occurred some time earlier and that the hospital had given her a nicotine patch and an inhaler.[15]
