Kollengode is a major town in Palakkad district, Kerala, India.[1] Kollengode Town is the headquarters of Kollengode Grama Panchayat and Kollengode Block Panchayat.[citation needed]
As of 2001 India census, Kollengode-I had a population of 18,583 with 9,068 males and 9,515 females.[2] The rural and outskirts of the Kollengode is considered as one of the top 10 beautiful village regions of India.The valley of Western ghats ,scenic beauty of paddy fields,and the water falls like Sitarkundu,Palakapandy etc are attracting tourist.
Kollengode railway station is located at Oottara. State highway SH-58 passes through Kollengode. The nearest airport is Coimbatore around 70 km from Kollengode. Kollengode is well connected to major cities near by like,Kochi,Kozhikode,Thrissur, Palakkad,Pollachi and Coimbatore. Two weeks long festival season of Kollengode during the period of December to January every year is very famous. Head quarters of Vengunad Swaroopam and the palace is in Kollengode.
Kollengode and its rural areas are the locations where most of the film shootings are taking place.Kollengode is one of the sites founded by the Archeological Survey of India.
Head quarters of the proposed Thenmala Taluk is in Kollengode. Kollengode Town is also proposed and considered for Muncipality stature.
Many of the government offices are functioning in Kollengode like Sub-Treasury,Sub-Registrar office,AEO,Health,Forest,Excise etc. Kollengode is the educational Sub district. Kollengode police station is one of the oldest police station of the state. Kollengode fire station located in the town itself.
River
The Gayathripuzha River, a tributary of Bharathappuzha, flows near the town.
