Deutsch: Die Abbildung zeigt die Entstehung der Mondphasen. Oben ist ein Ausschnitt der Erdumlaufbahn um die Sonne sowie neun Positionen des Mondes auf seiner Umlaufbahn um die Erde im Verlauf eines Monats dargestellt. Unten ist das Aussehen des Mondes von der Erde aus gesehen entsprechend den neun Positionen und die Bezeichnung der verschiedenen Phasen angegeben. Der kleine grüne Sektor an der letzten Position zeigt, wie viel sich die Richtung zur Sonne im Laufe des Monats geändert hat. Die Größe der Erde und des Mondes ist oben stark übertrieben dargestellt und die Entfernung zwischen ihnen stark untertrieben.
