English: Cottages at Mentmore circa 1950
Old photograph found in an album belonging to the uploader. The photograph was probably taken by a member of the uploader's family who is now dead. The uploader releases intothe public domain - The building in this photo is not as suggested one of the houses built by the Rothchild family. It is in fact the old Ale House that dates from the 16th Century. It was lived in by the Varney family whos graves can be found in the local Church yard. They are shown in records held in the records office in Aylesbury as paying 2 shillings a year in rent to the church and they provided ale and meat from their pigs to the local community.
