Old Friends ... New Friends article
Hello! It's been a while since we worked on the Old Friends ... New Friends article, but it's finally published. I'll keep working on the article. I'm sorry about the delay; I've been working on my procrastination recently, so hopefully this kind of delay won't happen again. Thanks again for all of your help, I really appreciate it. FunnyMath (talk) 01:28, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
- @FunnyMath, not a problem; we're all volunteers, so we do what we can when we're able. For example, if you had asked me earlier, I might not have been able to assist, since I've been busy IRL and working on other WP articles and projects. I'm able to help out now, though, so let me know what I can do. I had the draft on my watchlist, so I'll go and look at what you've done and put the article on my watchlist to keep an eye out for it. Congrats on the publish! ;) Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 15:49, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

gather together in my name
hello, Christine! i just wanted to let you know that, since this article was promoted to featured article status, the article has become inconsistent with its capitalization of "black". the tfa blurb currently has it uncapitalized, presumably because that instance in the article lead is uncapitalized. if you decide to restore the style that was used at the time of the article's promotion, i think it would be appropriate to change the blurb to reflect that. note that mos:racecaps, which was added in recent years, suggests that "black" and "white" should either be both capitalized or both uncapitalized, so if "black" ends up being capitalized in the blurb, i assume that "white" should be too.
by the way, i replaced "feel" in the blurb with "felt" because the other verbs discussing the book's critical reception ("received", "acclaimed", and "recognized") all used past tense. however, i then struggled with whether "makes" should be similarly conjugated, i.e., whether the blurb should read "felt makes" or "felt made". i ended up leaving "makes" alone, but please feel free to replace it with "made" if you think it is more appropriate, or revert to the earlier use of "feel" if you disagree with my replacement. dying (talk) 09:40, 17 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Dying: thanks for the note. As the main editor of this and most other Angelou articles, I set the precendent that the word "Black" in these articles would be capitalized, as explained here. I did a quick check and found that there was only one error, so I fixed it. Re: the tenses: according to MOS:BLPTENSE, we can use the present tense for statements made by reviewers and in academic writing, and we use the past tense for news and marketing materials. When I was informed that this article was going to be on the main page, I checked to make sure the plural uses were consistent, so no please don't change anything more. Thanks for your interest in this article; I'm very proud that it's going to be TFA on Juneteenth. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 17:47, 17 June 2023 (UTC)
- oh, interesting! admittedly, i had not considered mos:blptense since i didn't think the article was a blp (although the book itself may be a bdp); i had been relying on mos:tense, which states to "write articles in the present tense", and to "use past tense only for past events". i had assumed the use of "received", "acclaimed", and "recognized" indicated that the book's critical reception was considered to be in the past, and only tried to make the blurb more consistent by changing "feel" to "felt". i am not as familiar with mos:blptense, so if you think that it is overriding in this case, please feel free to change "felt" back to "feel". thanks, Christine! dying (talk) 20:24, 17 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Dying, not a problem. Well no this article isn't a BLP, but it does contain biographical info since it's an autobiography. You'll notice that for those sections, I used the past tense. For literary discussions of the book, I used BLPTENSE. That's also what my main professor in grad school taught me. It gets really confusing when you have to mix tenses (i.e., "Critic Hilton Als believes that the title of Gather Together may relect its theme of how one Black woman was able to survive in the wider context of post-war America while also speaking for all Black women, and how they survived in a white-dominated society."). I think that I was successful in getting it right here. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 22:15, 17 June 2023 (UTC)

Images on skater pages
"And no you can't just add images; all images on WP need to be free before you can upload them to WP and to Commons." - from a recent response to me. What can be considered "free"? Just as an example, on Yuna Kim's page, there are photos from [[1]] korea(dot)net and [[2]] Mike Pence's twitter. Can newspaper photos be considered free? Editor120918756 (talk) 07:47, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
- User:Editor120918756, see Wikipedia:Image use policy for explanation about WP's image use policy. Both the images you mention are in the public domain because they're both government-owned images. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 05:31, 26 July 2023 (UTC)

- @Editor120918756, yes that's correct. I would suggest that you upload them to Commons, though, and make sure the documentation at the original site states that the image is in the public domain. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 16:30, 26 July 2023 (UTC)

Hello! I found those two articles while working on Wikidata for figure skating articles without Wikidata entries/without statements in their Wikidata entries. And right now I don't really understand why those shouldn't be merged into only one article? --Harmonia Amanda (talk) 00:20, 15 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Harmonia Amanda, hello to you. These two articles are new and were created in order to shorten the length of the main bio, Yuna Kim. To be honest, it never occurred to any of us in the Figure Skating WikiProject to combine the two new ones, probably because they're very different articles. Impact of Yuna Kim is about Kim's general influence of figure skating and sports, while Media image and impact of Yuna Kim is about her other careers, both before and after her retirement from skating. I suppose they could be combined, but I'd personally be against it. I'll bring up your suggestion at the talk page of the project, though, and see what others think. Thanks, Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 17:09, 15 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your answer! The clarification there was not apparent to me while reading quickly the articles. Maybe they can be merged into one with sections "in sports" and "others", or maybe the titles could be made clearer? (maybe by renaming one to "impact on *figure skating*"?). Frankly I came here via Wikidata, as stated in my first message, trying to understand the scope and aims of each articles to add basic data points.
- I can usually rely on categories, at least, but here both just said "Figure skating in South Korea" (while you are saying that one of them is not really centred around figure skating?). Maybe something like Category:Cultural impact by person would be appropriate? I don't want to make any changes to the articles without understanding what the scopes of both are supposed to be.
- A search on this Wikipedia about "impact of [someone]" basically shows me no results at all (some redirects, but no specific article). There are some about "cultural impact of [someone]" but they are quite different. So I can't rely on other pages to deduce what the usual scope of such articles would be, since they appear to be fairly isolated in their structuring.
- English is not my native language, even though I'm decent in it, and I don't really contribute to the English Wikipedia. I am very aware that even though I contribute on figure skating elsewhere, I do not know the work you do here, and I don't want to break things. If you think a merge is a bad idea, then I trust you. My main goal is really just to understand what each article is about, to be able to do the Wikidata items properly so it can be linked in the general database, and found, and used, by people not speaking English.
- This can probably be achieved by means other than merging, clarifying the first sentences of both articles to explain the scope, having both articles clearly link to each other (maybe a top link with something like "this article is about Yuna's impact of figure skating, for her impact on other things see this article"), and having more categories.
- By the way, since there are now three articles (at least) about her, maybe one solution would be to create a category for her on the English Wikipedia? I don't know the criteria for categories in your WP.
- I don't want to make these changes myself as an outsider, particularly one who still don't exactly understand the scope the enwp:Figure skating project assigned these two articles. I just want to integrate properly these two articles in the bigger Wikimedia world :) --Harmonia Amanda (talk) 20:31, 15 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Harmonia Amanda, I've followed the standards set at other figure skating bios; for example Yuzuru_Hanyu#Accolades_and_impact. I don't disagree with you regarding your suggestions for categories, so I'll bring it up for discussion at WikiProject Figure Skating. I do agree that a new category should be formed for Kim, now that she has three articles about her. I will do that shortly, too. At any rate, thanks for your suggestions. I'm curious, where do you write about figure skating? In another part of Wikipedia? Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 21:00, 18 December 2023 (UTC)

Conflict of interest 😢
I saw you undid my edits on Yuna Kim with concerns that I may have a conflict of interest. I think I reviewed one of your DYKs in the past, 😢. Is the COI suspicion based on an assumption that I'm linked to one/more of these newspapers?
See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Korea#AWB reference edits. I wrote a custom WP:Autowikibrowser script to format Korea-related references in general. I was actually inspired to create this script because while nominating DYKs I've had several cases where people didn't recognize major South Korean newspapers, so I'm automatically linking them everywhere so people have a chance to understand what is what.
The script links more than just newspapers; it links publishers from both the South Korean and North Korean government so people can scrutinize what is coming from what. I'm not tied to any of these organizations... Just a well-meaning nerd. toobigtokale (talk) 03:30, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Toobigtokale: I probably mislabeled this in the edit summary; perhaps a better one would be overlinking, because you link every instance of the newspapers. Perhaps linking them just once would be enough? Or if it's already linked in the article? Remember, we only have to link once. My apologies for the mislabeling.
- I get what you say about DYK reviewers not recognizing the So. Korean media sources. They just assume that since they've never heard of The Korea Times, it must not exist. It demonstrates the bias on WP against non-Western and obscure topics, and since I focus on those types of articles, too, I run into the same kind of thing a lot, too. I sympathesize, really I do, but I'm not sure that overlinking is the solution. That being said and since you explained it all, if you want to rerun the script, go ahead. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 07:30, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
- Titles of works in references are actually an exception to MOS:REPEATLINK, see link. toobigtokale (talk) 12:29, 3 March 2024 (UTC)

Axel jump
You reverted my edit, whats the reason? Bemar (talk) 21:01, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Bemar, these are the reasons I reverted your edit:
- There are several typos and grammar errors.
- The source you used isn't accessible, so there's no way to check its accuracy.
- The source contradicts a more reliable one from the ISU, the international organization that oversees figure skating and which keeps detailed historical scores and achievements.
- Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 22:48, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
- 1. If you saw typos and grammatical errors, you could simply correct them rather than delete the entire edit.
- 2. In all the results of the World and Euro Championships, a link is given to a certain Results list provided by the ISU; it is not available anywhere at all. My source is available; if you search in google the name of the newspaper “Soviet Sport”, you will find two archival repositories. For example, here are two links to the newspaper issues I indicated [3] [4]. There is a direct quote about Alexander Krysanov’s triple axel in 1974. It is possible to translate them into English using Google Translator.
- 3. ISU only provides data on its competitions. But the article may contain references to national competitions, such as with Midori Ito and the competition in Japan prefecture in 1988. Therefore, my edits did not contradict the ISU data, but only supplemented them.
- Please return my edit, correcting grammar errors. And you do it, because you didn’t figure it out carefully, but preferred to delete my edit in a primitive way. Bemar (talk) 01:34, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Bemar, sorry it's taken me a little while to respond, things have been a little busy here and IRL. You shouldn't expect other editors to fix your typos and grammar errors for you. You also need to make sure that you format your sources correctly and that your sources are the most reliable. Please correct your own errors. The google translation of the source you provided is terrible and almost indecipherable in English; I assume that you read Russian, so please translate it, paraphrase the information, and add it to the article. Finally, the source needs to be the most reliable; in other words, more reliable than the ISU source. It's okay to supplement information about firsts with sources about non-international competitions, again as long as they're reliable, and I'm not sure that a Soviet-era news source is. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 16:42, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
- It is necessary to translate not only the phrase highlighted in yellow, but one sentence, from point to point. And with the help of a Google translator, it is: “A student of coach E. Levin - A. Krysanov performed his famous Axel in 3.5 revolutions.” Is clearly unambiguous and understandable. In the second source, one word was indeed scanned with the error not “polovina”, but “polozina” (in Russian it mean "half"). However, this does not mean that the information itself is distorted, it means: “A remarkable event of the evening was a jump of three and a half revolutions, which was demonstrated for the first time by Moscow Spartak player Alexander Krysanov.” The newspaper "Soviet Sport" is an official organ of the USSR State Committee for Physical Culture and Sports. those. institutions of the USSR Government. There is an article about it here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sovetsky_Sport (it states that newspaper was distributed in 104 countries around the world, and there is no indication that the newspaper was propaganda or provided false information). I really ask you personally ;) please help me, since English is not my native language and I don’t know it so perfectly, correct my grammatical errors, because my edits are very small. Let's make Wikipedia more reliable together? Bemar (talk) 05:04, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Bemar, but the Google translation isn't unambiguous and understandable at all. It isn't clear from either source where it took place, for example. The Wikipedia article about the newspaper also doesn't state that it wasn't propaganda. As a state-sponsored source, it can be argued that it's a self-published source. Yes, it can also be argued that the ISU is also self-published, but it's more reliable than a Soviet newspaper. I stand by my assertion that the information about Krysanov should remain stricken. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 16:57, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- Fragments of articles mentioning the triple axel has the rest part and a title, I'm sure you know this very well, but you destructively continue to find fault. From the rest part and a title it is clear that the articles describe the USSR Cup competition in the city of Chelyabinsk on January 11, 1974! In the USSR, absolutely everything was sponsored by the state, cinema, literature, sports, etc, that was the system, but this does not mean the sources are biased and unauthoritative. I really regret that I wasted time communicating with you and was once again convinced of the destructive, unfair, biased position of western countries when it comes to Russia and russians. I don't need your answers anymore. I wanted to help develop Wikipedia, but I see that it prefers lies and I won’t help anymore. Bemar (talk) 20:28, 29 June 2024 (UTC)

Did you know nomination for Backflip
Hello Christine, I think the article is a good candidate for Did you know. I wonder if there is a "was" too much in the teaser:
Did you know that the first backflip in figure skatingwasdone at the Olympics was in 1988 by French skater Surya Bonaly, even though it was an illegal move?
But I am not a native English speaker. Kallichore (talk) 17:42, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Kallichore, I just finished my QPQ for the DYK. I will go and make the grammar corrections you suggest now. Thanks, Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 17:52, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- Oh, I just watched the video of her backflip: It happened at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, not in 1988.--Kallichore (talk) 18:00, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Kallichore, oh crap. Thanks for pointing that out, fixed the typo the 2x it was in the article and at DYK. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 03:13, 2 November 2024 (UTC)

An April 2024 edit of yours to I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
In April 2024 you added a ref to I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings here adding a reference with the authorship of Froula, but there's not a reference with that name in the article. If you have access to this Froula, some of the Harv errors in this article could be removed if you'd please add the Froula reference to the "Sources cited" section. Thanks - Shearonink (talk) 21:31, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
- Nevermind, I finally found it. The refs in this article have kind of been a mess. Finding the Froula ref was not easy. There are now only 3 Harv errors left - 2/Smith 2004 & 1/McPherson 1992. If you know who/what these 2 refs are, feel free to jump in. - 01:58, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
Draft:Anindita Balslev
Hi! I hope you're well. I'm a big fan of the work you do for Women in Red and Women in Religion project. I'm keen to get involved and I've created my first draft stub on Anindita Balslev. I was wondering if I get some feedback on it please? Her name appears on the WiR/1000 Women in Religion crowdsourced list and she seems to fit the notability guidelines for academics due to her work with the parliament of religions and the influence her forum has garnered on cross-cultural conversations. I appreciate that you must be very busy and completely understand if you're not able to take a look. I'm just keen to do a good job and would really appreciate your advice, thank you! Katiedevi (talk) 17:48, 10 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, @Katiedevi. Thanks for reaching out for assistance. I just finished giving some feedback on the talk page of your draft. Hope it helps. Please let me know how else I can assist. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 03:28, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for taking out the time and providing feedback, I really appreciate it! I look forward to making this into a publishable article. Katiedevi (talk) 14:57, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
I see where no one has taken you up on reviewing this article for A-status. Have you considered submitting it for Featured Article review instead? They may have more participation in that project, and it would be nice to get some skating articles elevated to that level. Bgsu98 (Talk) 13:25, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98, one of the reasons I started the A-class assessment project was because I'm frustrated with the peer review system on Wikipedia, which I believe is, in many ways, broken. For example, articles about women and neglected topics like figure skating tend to go through higher scrutiny than other articles. Another example is that reviewers don't tend to know very much about figure skating and our policies at WikiProject Figure Skating, so you have to waste time explaining them. Other projects have started their own assessments because experts are the ones who assess articles and biographies in their subjects, so their assessments are more thorough and accurate.
- I've come to the conclusion that the interest isn't there in the Figure Skating WikiProject for doing A-class assessments for our articles, so I'm dropping it. No one cares, so why continue to push and ask people to participate when they don't and I have so many other things to focus on, both on Wikipedia and IRL? I mean, this bio has already gotten so much feedback, but no one seems interested enough in simply passing it. Then we can learn from it and go on to assess another article. So I'm done with it. Like I said, there are plenty of other things to do. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 17:45, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- I understand your frustration. I may be confused, and I admit I didn't pay close attention, but I thought the A-status project was also a peer review project. What can I do to help get it to A-status? I know it's a well-written, quality article. Bgsu98 (Talk) 19:40, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98 you're right it is a peer-review, but it's one that we as a project can better assure that our articles get the attention to our best articles. I'm not sure that FAC is the best place to do that, since the process is wrought with non-expert reviews and the systemic bias that we're trying to remedy. User:Artemisialufkin has already passed the second nomination; all it would take is one more person to pass it. Would you mind doing that? If you also wouldn't mind, could you remove the "All of Me" entry in the Programs as a professional skater table as well? Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 23:01, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Has it ever undergone a source review and image review? Bgsu98 (Talk) 23:23, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- It's been through a thorough source review, in its first assessment, but it hasn't been through an image review. I see that you've given your support, thanks. I'll go and close the reviews and do the promotion, unless someone opposes me doing it. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 20:59, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
- If somebody raises an issue about an image review, I'll do it. But in the meantime, close it out and promote it. :) Bgsu98 (Talk) 21:05, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
- Okay! I just put a note on the project's talk page, so I'll wait a couple of days, since technically I'm not supposed to do it as the nominator. But if no one objects (which I'm sure they won't), I'll do it! Thanks, especially for putting up with my grumpiness about this whole thing. ;) Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 21:15, 18 May 2025 (UTC)

Thank you for making me so happy!
I spent an hour clicking around Sesame Street topics and it was such a treat. Your talk page answer to that "Where is Sesame Street" question made me feel almost sappy, not a feeling I get on most talk pages, and I like your "Steve Burns rule" of Blue's Clues vandalism. There are so many friendly, fascinating figures withing a click or two of you, like Adrienne Wadewitz, who I never got to meet. Good thing you're not seated next to me at a dinner party, or I would probably pester you with a million questions about the Muppets, the Wiggles, and your Wikipedia reflections over the years. Crunchydillpickle🥒 (talk) 02:51, 10 June 2025 (UTC)
- Ah @Crunchydillpickle, what a nice thing to read on my talk page! I try and work on articles that make me happy and give me joy; that's one of my editing values. I mean, why bother if you're not gonna have fun, right? I'm glad you had fun reading my stuff. I miss Adrienne all the time, she left us way too soon. I love talking about all those things so by the end of said dinner party, you'd probably get tired of me rambling on and on about them. I see that you live in NYC, so are you going to WCNA there in October? If so, maybe we can meet in person. I'm going to see a Broadway show while I'm there, since that's on my bucket list. BTW, I love your username and your userpage is a hoot! I can tell that you, like me, have been around here for a while and that you also write about some fascinating things. Looking for reviewers
Hey there... first off, I've seen where you have been making (badly needed) edits to pair skating. That is great, because I have zero interest in maintaining those articles, but they are vital to the project. I prefer to focus on the competitions. Anyway, I have these articles up for Featured Article or Featured List:
- East German Figure Skating Championships
- 2015 Trophée Éric Bompard
- Four Continents Figure Skating Championships
- Swedish Figure Skating Championships
If you would be willing to review any of them, that would be awesome and much appreciated! I have several national championships where I have finished populating all of the tables with sources (Norway, Switzerland, France, etc.), but FLC restricts the number of nominations to two at a time, so it is slow going. I try to have one national championship and one international competition up at FLC at any given time. Also set to eventually go up are World Juniors, Grand Prix Finals, the Grand Prix events, and several of the Challenger Series events, but like I said, it's slow going. And as a side note, I am so frustrated, because Nepela Memorial has a great backstory, but I am missing results for one lone year that is preventing me from finishing it... Bgsu98 (Talk) 13:41, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Bgsu98, I've been stalking what you're doing, too, with all your work on competitions. I think it's valuable, of course, but like you about the technical aspects of figure skating, I have little interest in working on competitions, although it was fun working on Europeans a few years ago. I turned my attention on the technical articles because rules change in the sport and they need updating from time to time. Plus, it's an Olympic year, and I feel like people who watch figure skating every four years will want to know about elements and the rules that govern the sports, so these articles really need to be updated. That's slow going, too, because it can get pretty technical and the language in the rules books can be difficult to parse, especially for this non-skater. The other thing that's making it slow is that I've had to take a break from working on skating articles because other projects have demanded my attention. For example, an article I worked on several years ago has been threatened with a FAR (Todd Manning, about a soap opera character), so I feel like I've needed to ensure it doesn't lose its FA-status, and it's taken more time and effort than I anticipated. This week, another project I'm working with is at the end of their grant, so they need lots of assistance, so I've had to temporarily drop that, too. Plus, all the real life stuff I deal with everyday, too.
- All that to say is that I realize that you need reviewers, and I feel bad other things have gotten in the way of it. It may be another week, but I'll do my best to assist. Please continue to be patient with me; I promise that I will review at least two of the above list. I should be finished with the WikiProject duties by the end of today, and I'm at the tail end of what I need to do for the soap character article. Then you're next! Anyway, keep up the good work, give yourself grace, and make sure you're having fun. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 17:31, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
- I was watching One Life to Live when Todd was first brought on as Rapist #1. Who could have predicted the legacy that character would leave! Bgsu98 (Talk) 17:36, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, I don't think even Roger Howarth could've predicted it. It's always difficult to write about rape, but I think that the storyline was so important for how we discuss it in our culture, so I'm proud to be involved in furthering that discussion here on WP. The Todd article has become one of the singular most important and impactful contribution I've made here. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 22:26, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98, see you around a lot these days. I'm sure you've seen that I've reviewed the articles/lists you requested. Looks like some of them have already been promoted; congrats and good work. I'm sorry about the withdrawal of the U.S. Nationals article. You should totally resubmit it! I promise I will be there for it, if you let me know about it.
- I so appreciate you saving me with the Todd article I was trying to create. Wotta nightmare. I've become such a fan of yours. Are you going to U.S. Nationals this year? I am; so if you'll be there, too, we should meet up and even have an impromptu editathon with other folks from the Figure Skating project who are there. Your RfD on Victor Lord, Jr.
Hi! I procedurally closed your RfD on Victor Lord, Jr. because you can start an article from a redirect without process, so if you want to go ahead! In the case that someone turns the article back into a redirect, that can be discussed at AfD as that's considered to be blanking and redirecting. You can read more information about turning redirects into article here. Casablanca 🪨(T) 17:33, 3 September 2025 (UTC)
Move
Hey, I hope you're doing well and having a lovely week. May I please ask why you moved List of One Life to Live characters introduced in the 2000s to Victor Lord, Jr.? Was it an accident? I have reverted it, so there is no worries, I was just wondering 😊 DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 04:58, 5 September 2025 (UTC)
- @DaniloDaysOfOurLives, yes what a huge mistake it was. And they say you can't break Wikipedia! Fortunately, there are lots of fellow helpful editors who will step in and fix it, in the time it took for me to step away to take care of something. So I appreciate the assist.
- What I'm trying to do is to, as you can surmise from the section above, take the content from the section entitled "Victor Lord, Jr." and create a new article from the redirect. I'm not finding the link provided above about how to do. Could you advise how, or direct me where I could find out? Thanks, Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 05:08, 5 September 2025 (UTC)
- No problem at all! We all make mistakes. I recommended either working on the article in your sandbox and then copy and pasting it onto the redirect when you are done, or you can begin working on it now and have the "In use" template whilst you are creating it. You can also work on it on a sandbox and I can move it for you afterwards 😊 DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 05:12, 5 September 2025 (UTC)

The redirect help page isn't clear about how to do that and I haven't been able to figure out how to do it myself. Thanks again. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 17:08, 5 September 2025 (UTC)

Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 different occupations or professions (or broader roles in society) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
We hope to see you there!

- Hey @Bgsu98, I'm at WCNA in NYC this weekend, so I doubt that I'd be able to look at these before next week. I'm still traveling, but it's more of a retreat-like vacation, so I'll try and get to this then. Please continue to be patient with me. Best, Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 20:05, 16 October 2025 (UTC)
- What is the WCNA? Whatever it is, have fun! World Junior Figure Skating Championships was just promoted to FL last night 😃, so I have put up ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating as the next candidate. Bgsu98 (Talk) 12:48, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98, WCNA, it ends today. You should google what happened here on Friday, the first day. Other than that, it was very fun. Congrats on the FL. Next week, I'll get to the other reviews and then I'll tackle Figure Skating at the Olympic Games. And then maybe the ISU Judging System. More article development, like what you're doing. Have fun! Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 15:25, 19 October 2025 (UTC)
- JESUS CHRIST!

- That Olympic article is a hot mess. Good luck! Bgsu98 (Talk) 15:31, 19 October 2025 (UTC)
- Haha, I haven't been able to watch any of it this weekend! Next week, on the second leg of my vacation in Calif., which unfortunately involves a funeral, I will catch up. Hey, are you going to U.S. Nationals in St. Louis in January? We should put a call out for a meet-up of Wikipedians who will attend. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 20:40, 19 October 2025 (UTC)

Some suggestions with regards to this article, which I believe was mostly written by you.
The ISU currently requires a "choreographic rhythm sequence" as part of the rhythm dance, and I have no idea what that is, but I have it redirected to Competition elements in ice dance#Choreographic elements. The problem: this subsection has no mention of a choreographic rhythm sequence. Nor is it referenced in the rhythm dance article.
- @Bgsu98, The choreographic rhythm sequence replaced the pattern dance sequence in 2022 in the RD. I've added the information to this article to make it clearer.
Also, I am thinking a more explicit explanation/distinction between sequential twizzles and synchronized twizzles might be a good idea. As it is now, it's not clear what the difference is, and I get that trying to explain these elements to the layperson is like trying to teach trigonometry to a goat. Bgsu98 (Talk) 12:57, 1 December 2025 (UTC)
- I think the lack of clarity isn't because it wasn't explained; it was that the long sentence defining each. Breaking up the sentences, which I've just done, should make it clearer. What do you think? Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 05:28, 7 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98, yes you are right, I did mostly write this article. It is challenging to write about and explain elements, requirements, and regulations is like teaching trig to a goat. What makes it even challenging is that I'm a non-skater, so parsing the information in ISU documents is really hard. I can only hope that I've been able to manage it, because WP should be the place where it's explained to other non-skaters like me. I will take a look at the article again and make sure all is accurate. The reason that the distinction between sequential twizzles and synchronized twizzles is unclear is that it's unclear to me. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 01:21, 2 December 2025 (UTC)
- I don't want to tread on your work, but I can try and clarify the differences between the two. The one element I'm at a loss about is the choreographic rhythm sequence. Like, what is that anyway? "Make up your own pattern"? Bgsu98 (Talk) 01:28, 2 December 2025 (UTC)
- No I don't think that at all. Repeat the mantra after me: This is a collaborative project. We all work together to make WP better. Please, if you see anything that's unclear, go ahead and make it clearer. As long as you include sources, of course. If I disagree, I'll start the conversation about it. I'll look into the choreographic rhythm sequence in the next few days. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 01:34, 2 December 2025 (UTC)
- What gets me is one set is called "synchronized twizzles", when both sets are actually in sync. 😒
- As somebody who does figure skating, I can tell you that twizzles are absolutely one of the hardest elements to learn. They're way harder than spinning. I've tried doing two-footed twizzles and look like Frankenstein's monster lurching across the ice. 😂 Bgsu98 (Talk) 01:42, 2 December 2025 (UTC)
- Twizzles are my favorite figure skating element; they're just so cool. The commentators call them "the quads of ice dance." They look hard! Its article was very fun to work on. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 01:55, 2 December 2025 (UTC)

Your nomination of Figure skating at the Olympic Games has passed
Your good article nomination of the article Figure skating at the Olympic Games has
passed; congratulations! See the review page for more information. If the article is eligible to appear in the "Did you know" section of the Main Page, you can nominate it within the next seven days. Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of Bgsu98 -- Bgsu98 (talk) 20:42, 19 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks, @Bgsu98! For your review and for all that you do. I don't think that I'll submit this to DYK. Instead, the next step is FAC, so that it can make the main page during the Olympics, if there's enough time. I'll ask for the nom to done quickly and canvas for reviewers. Best, Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 19:17, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
- FAC is the next logical step. Bgsu98 (Talk) 19:21, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
I see where you have listed this article at FAC. I have the following up for Featured status if you'd like to take a look:
- Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final/archive1 (almost at two months)
- Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Norwegian Figure Skating Championships/archive1
- Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/2025 U.S. Figure Skating Championships/archive1
Thank you! Bgsu98 (Talk) 07:23, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98, I will go take a look. You remind me that I need to list the Olympics article at the FS talk page. Did you also see the meetup page for Nationals? I have two figure skating goals this time: to see Ilia do his backflip in person, and to meet as many Wikipedians in person as possible. ;) Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 19:18, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
- We should definitely meet up, but I will be heading home very quickly after the men's free skate on Sunday, so I won't be able to attend that meetup. Bgsu98 (Talk) 19:36, 22 December 2025 (UTC)

Meeting you in St. Louis
Hello there, just letting you know I'm gonna be in St. Louis at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships as a photographer for WikiPortraits and will be staying after for the meetup. SpiritedMichelle (talk) 20:53, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
- @SpiritedMichelle, yes I saw that! If you have time, we should hang out before the meetup. How cool it is that you're taking pictures at the event. So needed, especially of more recent pics. Best, Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 21:25, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
- Looking forward to meeting up with you as well. I also recently posted the meetup page on the figure skating subreddit, so hopefully that will attract some more attention. SpiritedMichelle (talk) 22:05, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
- Excellent! I'm not on reddit, so thanks for doing that. One of my figure skating goals this Nationals is to meet more figure skating editors. That, and seeing Ilia do his backflip in person. ;) Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 22:25, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
- Also, are there any individuals who are not competitors who's pages are in need of profile photos? I'm talking like retired skaters whose most recent photo was from 10+ years ago. Asking because I know a lot of former champions do show up at nationals and it's probably the best event to get images of them. SpiritedMichelle (talk) 18:45, 29 December 2025 (UTC)
- @SpiritedMichelle, absolutely. Are you attending any of Brian Boitano's events? I'm sure that they'll be former skaters at his Friday, Jan. 9 and Saturday, Jan. 10 events. Perhaps you already know this, but there are probably hundreds on image files on Commons, created and donated by photographer David W. Carmichael about ten years ago that have broken source links. I discovered it during the current FAC for Figure skating at the Olympic Games; for example this link for one of Nathan Chen's photos. One way to solve the problem is to replace the broken links with archived ones from the Wayback Machine. A huge project, but a good way to increase your edit count. I thought that if you weren't already aware of this, that you should know. Now, I'm not going to volunteer to take pictures, although I plan on taking a few, because I'm a truly horrible photographer. Anyway, thanks, best as you prepare for next week. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 04:58, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry I was unable to attend the meetup in St. Louis. Something came up that I had to deal with. I am currently uploading my photos from event. SpiritedMichelle (talk) 06:10, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
- @SpiritedMichelle, I figured. To be honest, I'm glad it didn't happen because by the end of it all, I was exhausted. Home now, working on pre-Olympics tasks. I'm sure you got lots of great photos and I'm looking forward to seeing (and using) them. Wasn't it the best Nationals ever? Sad about Jason Brown, though. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 18:38, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
- I was exhausted as well. Currently in the process of uploading all the images, but please check out the ones I currently have up. I made sure to get lots of photos of the coaches at the boards as well as photos of all the former champions who attended. Really sad about Jason too. I have finished overhauling this article. The plan is to send it to FAC, but I can't do anything until 2025 U.S. Figure Skating Championships works its way through the quagmire. 🥴🥴🥴 Bgsu98 (Talk) 20:34, 30 December 2025 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2026 WikiCup!
Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2026 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here, and a bot will set up your submissions page within one day, ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.
For the 2026 WikiCup, the highest-ranking contestants will receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. This is the same scoring system that we had last year. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants are no longer eliminated at the end of each round.
The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Tara Lipinski scheduled for TFA
This is to let you know that the above article has been scheduled as today's featured article for February 6, 2026. Please check that the article needs no amendments. Feel free to amend the draft blurb, which can be found at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/February 2026, or to make comments on other matters concerning the scheduling of this article at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/February 2026. Please keep an eye on that page, as notifications of copy edits to or queries about the draft blurb may be left there by user:JennyOz, who assists the coordinators by reviewing the blurbs, or by others. I also suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from two days before it appears on the Main Page. Thanks, and congratulations on your work! Your support on the current FAC
You recently gave him a support on his FAC along with Hawkeye for the skating article, however, when I asked him to acknowledge in the article that the Pope had extended sympathy for the dead Roman Catholics from the accident he told me that it was "grossly" inappropriate. That seems a little on the cold-hearted side and I thought to ask if there might be some middle ground you could add a comment about this. ErnestKrause (talk) 14:52, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- @ErnestKrause, I assume that you're talking about the 2025 U.S. Figure Skating Championships FAC and the "him" is @Bgsu98. He didn't say that including Pope Leo and President Trump's comments was "grossly inappropriate"; he said that it was "grossly out of place". I agree with that, although I wouldn't have used the word "grossly". If we were to include everyone's comments about the crash, both sympathetic and not, this would be a very long article. There were people of other faiths that were killed, but you're not asking that we include comments from the leaders of those faith traditions. It doesn't demonstrate cold-heartedness at all. My support for the article stands. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 14:09, 11 January 2026 (UTC)

Women in Green reviewing drive

Hello Figureskatingfan:
This month, February 2026, WikiProject Women in Green is participating in the February 2026 GAN Backlog Drive, in which we're aiming to review as many outstanding Good Article (GA) nominations about women and women's works as possible. If you want to help out, you can check out the project talk page for a list of nominations in need of review (including some WiG originals). If you haven't reviewed a GA nomination before, be sure to check out the reviewing instructions and guidelines and feel free to ask for a mentor to check your work.
We are also working together with a wikithon hosted on 5 February by Wikimedia UK, which will focus on writing and improving articles about women involved in sustainable development. If you want to join the event, feel free to sign up at the eventbrite page; or if you would be interested in providing a 20-minute assessment and/or a full GA review of the submitted articles in the weeks following, put your name down on the project talk page for updates as the event progresses.
We hope to see you there!

Figure skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics – Team event is currently up for FAC if you have some time. I'm expecting the "the clock is ticking!" nudge any day now... Bgsu98 (Talk) 17:36, 3 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98--Ok, I will take a look. I appreciate that you let me know the status of your FACs, so that I don't have to. ;) It may take me a little longer than usual, since today my attention is divided between it and curling at the Olympics. TFA

Thank you today for Tara Lipinski, a 2022 article "about figure skating gold medalist and commentator Tara Lipinski. If passed, it would be only the fifth FA about figure skating, and the first bio about a skater. It would fill in a much-needed content and gender gap and would bring more attention to the sport of figure skating, which due to its gendered status (i.e., most skaters are women), hasn't received the kind of attention it deserves in most areas of the world. Lipinski has made big contributions to the sport, both as a skater and as a commentator. It's a fun and interesting bio."! - Thank you also for new quality content and for helping others! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:11, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: Ah thanks. The only negative thing is the all the edits that TFAs get. This one wasn't too bad, though; no overt vandalism, but way annoying. If only the commentators would comment this week on the fact that Tara was on the main page! To be honest, I want them to comment on the great articles the Figure Skating Wikiproject has created and improved, especially during the current Olympics. ;) Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 05:15, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
