Thank you for the article of a house I love, pilgrimage there in the 1990s. - The Rigoletto poster next to it has almost matching colours, and the FA (by Giano) is about an architect ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:23, 11 March 2025 (UTC)

  • Yes, it's a good topic so thanks for getting it onto the main page.
But the hook choice doesn't work for me so please see this discussion which I've started. The promotor and reviewer may also be interested. @SL93 and Arconning:.

Thanks for the kind message Gerda. It's one of my favorite houses too.
Thanks for the heads up, Andrew. Unfortunately I am on vacation so I won't have much internet access, but I'll give my thoughts if it's still up in a few hours. Epicgenius (talk) 10:43, 11 March 2025 (UTC)
Today I could have written five stories off the main page, and chose Sofia Gubaidulina. I find the TFA also interesting, and two DYK (Unity Temple, and a baritone for whom I started a hook discussion), and a birthday OTD. How about you? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:54, 16 March 2025 (UTC)
Thanks, Gerda. Today I'm going to explore Tokyo a bit. I've been wanting to go there all my life, and now my wish is granted. I just have to come back sometime to fully enjoy the city. Epicgenius (talk) 23:06, 16 March 2025 (UTC)
Wow. I remember a similar situation. - Today: an opera, 100 years old OTD, on Bach's birthday. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:56, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
Today, 300 years of Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern, BWV 1! We sang works for (mostly) double choir by Pachelbel, Johann Christoph Bach, Kuhnau/Bach, Gounod and Rheinberger! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:49, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
Today: Jörg Streli, an architect to whom you can listen (in German, though), - he said that he met FLW in NYC. + the Jahrhundertring, nominated for GA (both hidden on the main page) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:31, 26 March 2025 (UTC)
Nice to hear about both of these. Incidentally, since the world of NYC real estate is so relatively small, I wouldn't be surprised if I've come across someone who met FLW in NYC, even though he died 30 years before I was born. – Epicgenius (talk) 23:53, 26 March 2025 (UTC)

Competition question

Hi Epicgenius. I'm trying to start up my own WikiCup-like contest for June/July, where the focus would be on poor-quality sports articles; see User:BeanieFan11/Sports Cleanup Contest format. One of the main problems I've run into is how to keep track of points, given that it appears the competition, if held, would receive a large participation and many submissions. As you're the WikiCup judge, I was wondering if you would know whether having a bot such as LivingBot keep track of the points for my contest would be plausible -- the contest's drafted scoring system is here. I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks, BeanieFan11 (talk) 22:06, 29 March 2025 (UTC)

@BeanieFan11, thanks for the message. For your contest, yeah, I think it would be a great idea to have a bot keep track of submissions. You could reach out to LivingBot's maintainer, @Jarry1250, to see if he'd be interested in having the bot run for your competition as well. – Epicgenius (talk) 00:30, 30 March 2025 (UTC)

Hi Epicgenius! I noticed you've started editing the 745 Seventh Avenue article that I drafted. I was originally intending on finishing the article and putting it in for a GA review (often taking inspiration from the way you write your GAs on skyscrapers), but I've become quite busy irl for the time being. As for the article's future expansion, I have some sources you might find helpful if you want to expand the "Design" section:

  • [1] This source is already cited in the "History" section but also includes some discussion of the screen display at the building's base (which will certainly warrant its own subsection).
  • The Stern book and Privately Owned Public Space book also include some discussion of the building's design
  • [2] This article discusses some modifications Barclays made to the building's crown
  • [3] This is a primary source but it gives good coverage on the updated screen display that replaced the old one in 2019.
  • [4] I was intending on using this source to expand the construction section, but it also gives some decent information on the building's design.

As for information I haven't been able to find, I've struggled to find extensive architectural critiques on the building. I also haven't been able to find an article actually confirming that Barclays modified the building's crown in 2010. The one I included above only discusses the plans to do so. I also found this article about a zoning dispute during the building's construction but couldn't find anything about the outcome of dispute.

I was also wondering how you think the two sections should be divided. I was confused as to whether to include changes that Barclays made to the building's design (like the new screen or modified crown) in the "History" section, or if they should be mentioned in the "Design" section.

Either way, thanks for helping with the article! I'll be around making additions and will become more active when I have time. RyanAl6 (talk) 02:36, 31 March 2025 (UTC)

@RyanAl6, thanks for the sources and commentary, I appreciate it. I'm flattered that you've been using my GAs as inspiration. I've had this on my radar since 2022 but never got around to it, so thanks for writing the article.
As for the changes that Barclays made to the building's design, I would say that we could describe them briefly in the History section, but the details of the modifications should go in the Design section. – Epicgenius (talk) 02:37, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
