Drafts pt 2.5
OK, back to my previous set of drafts! In this case, it was the other end of what I started this thread with, drafts started in draft space by other people, but the difference with these 12 drafts is that they went unedited for too long so they got deleted. The downside from that is we do not have an existing draft to look at for content, and there is no archive saved anywhere, but I did write a short note about each person with a link to a listing of their works before the drafts were deleted, so they are not total mysteries to me. :) So if you will help with these, if any sources exist for them, I can easily request them to be restored so I can work on them. If there is content on those drafts once we can see them that gives more context to find additional sources, you may find them if you don't mind looking again and I will add those as well. :) It's fine by me if it therefore takes a little longer to go through these.
But first before we get back to the remaining 7 of those, as always other users are creating new drafts so I would like to finish those up first. :) Two to go there, so here is one:
Draft:Jonathan Sims is a British author, voice actor, musician, and games designer including the supplement Odd Jobs, and the RPGs Pitcrawler and Zero Void as noted here: [1] and his fiction credits here: [2] BOZ (talk) 18:11, 17 February 2025 (UTC)

- Rouner, Jef (2022-10-26). "5 horror podcasts to check out this Halloween". San Francisco Chronicle. Archived from the original on 2025-03-02. Retrieved 2025-03-02.
The article notes: "A show has to be superb when it’s 200 episodes long and your first instinct after finishing it is to listen again right away. “The Magnus Archives” is that kind of superb. Set in London, it starts out as a monster-of-the-week experience where Jonathan Sims, head archivist at the Magnus Institute, reads supernatural accounts with a derisive sneer. However, as the show goes on, it becomes clear that the statements themselves are part of a devious plot by the Dread Powers that wish to remake the world into a living hell. Sims and his small band of friends turn from paranormal investigators into monster hunters, desperately trying to keep the nightmares at bay. The lore of the show is incredibly deep, leading to a dedicated fan base that explores every crevice for more answers. Radio horror can hardly be done better than “The Magnus Archives” did it. Parent company Rusty Quill just announced the show will be returning for three more seasons, continuing the story that left the fate of main characters Jonathan Sims and Martin Blackwood unknown."

- Lovegrove, James (2020-12-27). "Genre round-up — the best new science fiction". Financial Times. Archived from the original on 2020-12-28. Retrieved 2025-03-02.
The review notes: "By contrast, Jonathan Sims’s haunted house tale Thirteen Storeys (Gollancz, £16.99) is as sombre as they come. The dwelling in question is Banyan Court, a development in Tower Hamlets built by rapacious billionaire Tobias Fell, who now lives as a recluse in its penthouse apartment. One by one we meet a varied selection of residents, each of them experiencing menacing apparitions. Their individual stories all end the same way, with a dinner invitation from Fell, and the final chapter details events of that meal as the guests assemble for a blood-soaked denouement. Sims has a good grasp for how to generate unease — the sense of things going unaccountably awry, or happening at the periphery of one’s understanding, or being just plain wrong — and builds up the oppressive atmosphere within Banyan Court skilfully. The novel’s climax, if a little exposition-heavy, nonetheless draws together the threads of the preceding chapters with aplomb and delivers a cathartic pay-off after the long, slow accumulation of dread."

The review notes: "Jonathan Sims’ Thirteen Storeys (Gollancz, 400 pages, $18) is a genuinely frightening horror story. A reclusive billionaire is holding a dinner party, and he’s invited several of the tenants of an apartment complex to his penthouse suite. But here’s the thing: none of these people know each other. They do, though, have something in common: at one time or another, each of them has had a bizarre experience in this old, odd building. In Sims’ hands, the apartment complex becomes another character in the story: possibly malevolent, certainly disturbing, always doing something unexpected. The pace, too, is exquisite, as the author steadily ramps up the characters’ fears and our own sense that something awful is going to happen. And the ending: pure, unadulterated terror. A must-read for horror fans."
- Howse, Ryan (2020-11-13). "Review: Thirteen Storeys by Jonathan SIMs". Grimdark Magazine. Archived from the original on 2025-03-02. Retrieved 2025-03-02.
The review notes: "Thirteen Storeys is the debut novel of Jonathan Sims, head writer and voice actor for the horror podcast The Magnus Archives. Given the immense popularity of The Magnus Archives, it’s not much of a surprise that Thirteen Storeys works in a very similar vein of horror."
- "Gollancz signs two new novels by horror writer Jonathan Sims". The Bookseller. 2024-02-21. Archived from the original on 2025-03-02. Retrieved 2025-03-02.
The article notes: "Gollancz has signed world rights to two new novels by horror writer Jonathan Sims. ... Sims is the creator, writer, character namesake and voice of the horror podcast “The Magnus Archive”, and its sequel “The Magnus Protocol”. His two previous novels, Thirteen Storeys and Family Business are now available from Gollancz."

Of course, this had nothing to do with the rumor that Sharon Stone was at the Last Unicorn Games booth. It all turned out to be a case of mistaken identity. Ms. Moore (the lovely and talented sister of Christian Moore, one of the Last Unicorn guys) was the woman in question, and while she did bear a striking resemblance to Ms. Stone, I must say that she is much more lovely and much more talented."

This book also provided more than a few nuggets of inspiration."

OK, back to remaining 7 from my list of abandoned drafts. :)
Draft:Lottie Hazell is a British game designer who co-founded Birdwood Games and designed the games 'Dog Park and Forever Home, and also wrote the novel Piglet, with a small bio here: [4] BOZ (talk) 02:51, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
Hi BOZ (talk · contribs). The sources I found about Lottie Hazell were all about her novel:
- Gilmartin, Sarah (2024-01-20). "Piglet by Lottie Hazell: A propulsive debut with well-drawn characters but pacing is a little off. At the heart of the novel is the question of satisfaction: what will it take, or how much will it take, for the protagonist to be happy?". The Irish Times. Archived from the original on 2025-04-05. Retrieved 2025-04-05.
The review notes: "To give due credit to Hazell, that is no small feat for a debut author. A writer, contemporary literature scholar and board game designer, she holds a practice-based PhD from Loughborough University, where her research considered subversive femininity in 21st century fiction with a particular interest in the domestic, food writing and trauma narratives. She has previously worked in cookbook marketing, which she uses to fine effect in her fiction with evocative, unusual descriptions of food and dining."
- Hackett, Laura (2024-01-14). "Piglet by Lottie Hazell review — how not to plan a wedding". The Times. Archived from the original on 2025-04-05. Retrieved 2025-04-05.
The review notes: "Piglet, a debut novel by Lottie Hazell, understands just how connected culinary and literary pleasures are. It’s no surprise: Hazell has a PhD in food writing in 21st-century fiction. Where her book excels is in showing how class is implicated in every food choice we make."
- Hamya, Jo (2024-01-17). "Piglet by Lottie Hazell review – appetite for destruction. A bride-to-be is forced to confront the ugliness of her desires in this food-filled debut of class and ambition". The Guardian. Archived from the original on 2025-04-05. Retrieved 2025-04-05.
The review notes: "Piglet is Hazell’s first novel, and there is a fallacy at the heart of our current thinking when it comes to debuts: they must be so brilliant as to catapult the author into overnight fame, otherwise they are worthless."
- East, Ben (2024-02-04). "In brief: Piglet; Free Play; A Spell of Good Things – review". The Guardian. Archived from the original on 2025-04-05. Retrieved 2025-04-05.
The review notes: "There’s a searing section in Hazell’s nuanced debut where the deliciously unlikable titular protagonist realises her carefully curated life as a thirtysomething gourmand is a pretence, her pleasures mere posture. The fact that she does so on her wedding day gives Piglet its page-turning narrative propulsion. But actually, in picking apart this irritatingly smug couple, Hazell gradually offers wry, thoughtful explanations for their behaviour, covering class, female identity and family. Piglet’s clarity is hard won, but Hazell’s gift is to make it feel like a punch-the-air moment rather than a told-you-so."
- Lester, Daisy (2025-04-03). "Best new books to read, from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie to Anne Tyler. Discover debut novelists and immersive page-turners from acclaimed authors". The Independent. Archived from the original on 2025-04-05. Retrieved 2025-04-05.
The review notes: "Lottie Hazell’s searing debut challenges the notion of domestic bliss. Kit and Piglet (a derisive nickname from childhood) are the picture-perfect couple. They own a new-build home, have seemingly successful careers and are planning their wedding that’s straight out of a brochure."
- Cunningham, Annie (2024-01-20). "Plot hole device in Lottie Hazell's Piglet leaves a sour taste". Irish Independent. Archived from the original on 2024-01-22. Retrieved 2025-04-05.
The review notes: "Hazell has much to say about our food-obsessed snobbery and she plates up a deliciously-written narrative, generously peppered with lethal ground glass."
- Weiner, Jennifer (2024-02-22). "A Dark, Clever Novel Asks, What Happens When Women Ignore Their Appetites? "Piglet," by Lottie Hazell, is a tantalizing layer cake of horror, romance (sort of) and timely questions about the power of appetite". The New York Times. Archived from the original on 2024-02-22. Retrieved 2025-04-05.
The review notes: "Hazell’s prose is as tart and icy as lemon sorbet; her sentences are whipcord taut, drum tight. The only time she indulges in description is when Piglet’s cooking or eating. Then, the writing becomes lush and lavish, with mouthwatering descriptions of “new potatoes, boiled and dotted with a bright salsa verde."
- "Piglet". Publishers Weekly. Vol. 271, no. 1. 2024-01-08. p. 28. EBSCOhost 174655358. Archived from the original on 2025-04-05. Retrieved 2025-04-05.
The review notes: "Hazell debuts with the delicious narrative of a disastrous wedding. The bride is a London cookbook editor known by her childhood nickname, Piglet."

The review notes: "Narrator Rebekah Hinds imbues Hazell’s compelling debut with a palpable sense of dread. ... Hinds’s depiction of Piglet’s frantic appetite is piercing, capturing her insatiable need for the lushly described food. This is a listen like slightly burnt caramel—sharp and dark, yet still luscious."
- Bostrom, Annie (2024-02-01). "Piglet". Booklist. Vol. 120, no. 11. pp. 22–23. EBSCOhost 175400318.
The review notes: "Piglet, as the protagonist of Hazell's debut novel is called, earned her nickname as her parents' "daughter who ate," a family story often told. Now she's about to be married, dieting and whittling herself down for the white dress of her dreams. ... While characters and their motivations are sometimes just out of reach, Piglet excels in its crisp dialogue and Hazell's glorious descriptions of Piglet's cooking and the foods she hungers for."
- Bayley, Sian (2022-10-17). "Doubleday gobbles up 'stylish' début novel from Hazell". The Bookseller. Archived from the original on 2022-10-17. Retrieved 2025-04-05.
The article notes: "Doubleday has signed a “stylish” début novel about aspiration, control and appetite, by Lottie Hazell. Bobby Mostyn-Owen, commissioning editor, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, to Piglet from Harriet Moore at David Higham Associates. The novel will be published in early 2024. "

The review notes: "Piglet, by Lottie Hazell (Henry Holt). Newly installed in a house in Oxford, the protagonist of this novel savors visions of a future with her well-to-do fiancé. To her relief, they are a world away from her family in Derby, for whom she feels “a crawling embarrassment,” and from whom she received the nickname Piglet, for her prodigious appetite."

The review notes: "The titular character finds solace in food after discovering her fiancé has betrayed her only days before their wedding. A fresh take on hunger, class and the weight of expectations."
- Webb, Danielle (2024-08-01). "Books we're reading and loving in August: All Fours takes you on an uncomfortable but refreshing journey to self-discovery". The Globe and Mail. Archived from the original on 2025-04-05. Retrieved 2025-04-05.
The review notes: "Reader beware: Hazell makes some narrative decisions that keep important details undisclosed. Still, it’s a worthy read. Come for the mouth-watering food descriptions, stay for the smart commentary on female ambition, desire and class dynamics."

The review notes: "The opening pages of Piglet by Lottie Hazell (Doubleday £16.99) offer a vision of a bland, unexceptional middle-class existence in Oxford as the food-mad heroine, an editor at a publishing house devoted to cookbooks, prepares to get hitched to Kit, the adored son of a wealthy couple. Despite the fact that she comes from a different social class, the in-laws love her, a fortune has been lavished on the celebrations and an enviable life seems about to begin."

The review notes: "Another is Lottie Hazell’s taut tale of a woman on the brink, Piglet (Doubleday). It follows a woman whose seemingly perfect life is upended when her fiancé reveals a betrayal in the lead-up to their wedding. Determined not to let it ruin her life, she turns to food to repress her turmoil, but her growing rage cannot be contained. Simmering with suspense and culinary descriptions that leave you ravenous."
- "Weekend Essay: A Hunger for Connection? New Fiction Has an Appetite for Food". The Irish Times. 2024-11-16. p. 16. ProQuest 3128850514.
The review notes: "While Rooney’s food scenes are often understated, Lottie Hazell’s novel Piglet takes a more vivid and visceral approach. The cover – a greasy, decadent burger – tells you immediately that you’re in for something indulgent and messy. Hazell introduces us to a protagonist whose appetite is the engine that drives the narrative forward. The eponymous Piglet (a childhood nickname that refuses to be left behind) finds herself at the edge of a carefully curated life with ravenous, unfulfilled hunger. The story takes readers through her descent into pure indulgence as her impending marriage dissolves days before the wedding. Piglet dives headlong into excess, feasting on everything, tangible emotions spilling from her psyche. Hazell doesn’t just write about food; she writes with food. The imagery is tactile and lavish as if Piglet’s turmoil is seasoning itself. In one particularly memorable moment, she orders “one of every burger” on the menu, relishing the disapproving stares of onlookers as she moves each burger “through the air, feeling the solidity of the battered chicken, the crunch beneath the brioche bun, and barbecue sauce dribbled from her wrist to her elbow”."
- Brennan, Marjorie (2024-01-27). "Book review: Reader leaves dinner table unsated. A major flaw in the central conceit of the Lottie Hazell's 'Piglet' completely undermines what is a well-written debut". Irish Examiner. ProQuest 2918746321. Archived from the original on 2025-04-05. Retrieved 2025-04-05.
The review notes: "There are interesting themes to be teased out in this book — class, friendship, the distinctly modern obsession with food, the social media-driven pressure to present one’s perfect self to the world — but ultimately Hazell struggles to weave them together in a coherent way. Hazell has a masters in creative writing so there is no doubt she can write, but her academic background could be the reason that the narrative can appear overworked and effortful."

The review notes: "I thoroughly enjoyed Lottie Hazell's debut Piglet (Penguin Audio, 7 hrs, 35 mins), though it helps if you have a natural inclination to listen to step-by-step instructions for assembling a croquembouche or making the perfect puttanesca."
- Toner, Aine (2024-01-06). "Dive into dark academia and long-held secrets: Toner rounds up some of the best new page-turners hitting shelves this month". Belfast Telegraph. p. 16. ProQuest 2910791134.
The review notes: "Piglet by Lottie Hazell (Doubleday, January 25) Such an interesting, clever read. Told through the medium of food — and dialogue — this is the story of Piglet, whose wedding day to Kit is almost here."
- Popęda, Agata (2024-06-27). "Summer reads should be relatively light, but that doesn't mean sacrificing good literature". Monterey County Weekly. Archived from the original on 2025-04-05. Retrieved 2025-04-05.
The review notes: "From a young English writer, Lottie Hazell, comes the story of Piglet, as she is called by her family and friends. The story, set in Oxford, begins at the time when summer gets tiring, the heat becomes oppressive and the city is covered with filth. ... Hazell has a lot of experience as a food writer, so her food descriptions will make you hungry. Hilarious, delicious and dark."

- OK, thanks! Those are great finds, for the novel at least. I may bring back the draft just to see what I can add to it, and with so many sources I will probably start an article about the novel too. I will let you know how that all shakes out. :) BOZ (talk) 23:50, 5 April 2025 (UTC)

The article notes: "A new addition to this is the proclaimed King of Kickstarter Matt Colville. The name has been used a little tongue-in-cheek, and Colville (although being honoured) has tried to ignore this title. Yet in many ways it is very apt for a man that raised over 2 Million US and made it onto the elusive Top 100 Kickstarters list (only just scraping in at 97th) for an unofficial supplement to a pen and paper role playing game. ... Colville is a man known in D&D and gaming circles for a number of different reasons. He is known for his connection to Matt Mercer and Critical Role, not only for various interviews they participate in, but also a friendship he holds to Mercer and other cast member Liam O’Brien. Colville is also the writer for the Critical Role six issue comic book. This fact, and the promotion his campaign received from both the players on Critical Role and Geek & Sundry has seen a rise in his own followers and fans, but also an associated leap in the KS backers. His own YouTube channel already has over 180,000 subscribers and well in advance to the launch of the KS, Colville was commenting on and promoting the coming campaign. Equally important, Colville is very active on Twitter with around 40,000 followers, and this paid off."

Colville's promise to escape older editions of D&D is also very promising—and also a little funny, because that's exactly what D&D's 4th edition (4e) tried to do. And people hated that."

As always, new drafts get created and so I push those to the top of my list. :) Right now we have two created this month, and here the first of those.
Draft:Michael Kirkbride has worked on video games mostly from what I can see, but for my purposes I know that he also done artwork for the tabletop role-playing games Elric! and Fading Suns, and the card game On the Edge. BOZ (talk) 02:45, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

The article notes: "Another former Bethesda employee who had a hand in Daggerfall was Michael Kirkbride. "My only real task was taking scans of famous paintings and Penthouse pinups and altering them enough so that we wouldn't get sued for using them as tapestries," Michael "To this day, I think altering a i4x64 pixel Girl with a Pearl Earring into an Argonian princess is a highlight of my career. I also drew the ire of Julian LeFey [project leader on Daggerfall ] by putting clothes on all the pinup girls. Draft:Andre Novoa is a Portuguese role-playing game designer who is the creator and owner of the company Games Omnivorous: [9] BOZ (talk) 13:12, 12 May 2025 (UTC)

- Eggett, Christopher John (2024-05-11). "The Job RPG Review". Tabletop Gaming. Archived from the original on 2025-05-19. Retrieved 2025-05-19.
The article notes: "Andre Novoa’s Games Omnivorous is known for not only playing the hits, but making them. As far as indie roleplaying games go at least. They’re the publishers of Mausritter, Vaults of Vaarn, and Nate Treme’s Haunted Almanac. So, while Novoa might publish a lot of beautiful games filled with eccentricities, we have to remember that his own work starts with 17th Century Minimalist – a game of swashbuckling on a small budget and an even smaller word count. This is his second release on the publishing imprint that he created for that game, and it’s got his very own minimalist style attached. Novoa’s work has always been about how quick you can get to the action with a kind of internal mantra of ‘let’s not make anyone do homework’. Which is why, in The Job, the players do most of the work in planning the adventure."

According to Games Omnivorous leader Andre Novoa, the company hopes to have created "a foundational accessory for modern hexcrawling". Games Omnivorous began work on the Hexcrawl Toolbox in March this year. It launched a Kickstarter for the project on November 29, and has raised $51,000 at time of writing, more than five times its original goal. It's the RPG publisher's most ambitious project to date, and Novoa says sorting the logistics of a physical production of this kind has been tricky."

The article is available here on Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Library. The article notes: "Based on Cresswell's concept of how mobility emphasizes performativity and the meanings of movement, André Nóvoa saw how the mobility of The Stingers ATX on tour became a process of creating their identity as musicians: ... As Nóvoa analyzes for The Stingers ATX, so Mongolian urtyn duu singers become real singers through the three mobilities discussed here. ... Through a "mobile ethnography" that informs this research as empirical process, I found that the process of singers' mobilities enable urtyn duu to be "real," as Nóvoa's research showed for The Stingers ATX."

OK, back to the remaining four abandoned drafts:

Cunard (talk) 05:15, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
- Oh nice, thanks! :) Let me get the draft restored and see what I can do with it. BOZ (talk) 05:23, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
And of course, as always new drafts are being created. Draft:Tommy Wallach has been involved in a wide variety of different protects, but for tabletop games he created Mother of Frankenstein a couple of years ago. [12] BOZ (talk) 10:00, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
Hi BOZ (talk · contribs). Here are some sources about the subject:
- ReaderWren (2015-05-04). "We All Looked Up by Tommy Wallach - review". The Guardian. Archived from the original on 2025-06-16. Retrieved 2025-06-16.
The review notes: "The plot is a bit dull. It isn't the most interesting story. There isn't much to it. Not much action. A bit more drama. The Stacey slut thing (even if that happened before the book). The world ending itself. The party. The loss of normality. Misery. I feel like there could have been more plot. More action. Maybe if there was something about the riots. Not just photos. Maybe starting one. Not the tear gas riot. Something else. I'm not sure what."
- Giles, Jeff (2016-04-10). "Y.A. Crossover". The New York Times Book Review. ProQuest 1780543461. Archived from the original on 2025-06-16. Retrieved 2025-06-16.
The review notes: "The cover of Wallach’s second novel (after the best-selling “We All Looked Up”) looks like a still from a lost Wes Anderson movie ... It’s a pleasure to watch Zelda flirt, fling money and coax Parker out of what, emotionally speaking, is less a shell than a bunker. At its best, the novel carries a worthy message: No life is without pain — or promise."

The article notes: "... says Tommy Wallach, who co-founded Hatch Escapes with Terry Pettigrew-Rolapp. ... After extended play-testing, the Ladder opened in early April. Wallach and Pettigrew-Rolapp are already in reflective mode."

The review notes: "Title: Thanks for the Trouble. Author: Tommy Wallach Publisher: Simon & Schuster RRP: $17.99. This is a weird but engaging story about a 17-year-old boy who meets an enigmatic girl who might or might not be 246 years old."
- Hesson, Barbra (2015-05-02). "From asteroids to edmund; Reads for children and teenagers offer a little bit of everything". Calgary Herald. ProQuest 1677802126.
The review notes: "We All Looked Up By Tommy Wallach (Simon and Schuster, 370 pages). The asteroid Ardor is heading for a direct hit on the earth! In this apocalyptic thriller we follow the lives of four very different high school seniors as they struggle to rewrite the last few months of their lives and discover what they hold dear. This thought provoking story contains descriptive sexuality and violence and is geared toward mature readers ages 14 and up."
- "We All Looked Up". Publishers Weekly. Vol. 262, no. 49. 2015-12-02. p. 100. Gale A436234298. Archived from the original on 2025-06-16. Retrieved 2025-06-16.
The review notes: "Debut novelist Wallach increases the tension among characters throughout, ending in a shocking climax that resonates with religious symbolism. Stark scenes alternating between anarchy and police states are counterbalanced by deepening emotional ties and ethical dilemmas, creating a novel that asks far bigger questions than it answers."
- "Thanks for the Trouble". Publishers Weekly. Vol. 262, no. 45. 2015-11-09. p. 62. Gale A434792863. Archived from the original on 2025-06-16. Retrieved 2025-06-16.
The review notes: "Wallach (We All Looked Up) delivers well-rounded, witty characters ("Thinking of your parents being young is like thinking of Winnie-the-Pooh going to the bathroom: just fucking weird")--all contemplating whether living a full life is better than living a long one. Bittersweet moments intersect with the intricate fairy tales Parker writes, compelling readers to judge what is real and what is make-believe."
- Comfort, Stacey (February 2015). "We All Looked Up". Booklist. Vol. 111, no. 11. pp. 49–50. EBSCOhost 100783163. Archived from the original on 2025-06-16. Retrieved 2025-06-16 – via Gale.
The review notes: "There are a few moments that feel contrived, but Wallach's debut is nevertheless a literary Breakfast Club for a modern generation, and it will surprise readers expecting another clunky dystopian novel with its solid, realistic writing."
- Cart, Michael (August 2017). "Strange Fire". Booklist. Vol. 113, no. 22. p. 78. Archived from the original on 2025-06-16. Retrieved 2025-06-16 – via Gale.
The review notes: "This plot summary is only part of what promises to be a multivolume epic involving considerations of truth and lies, faithfulness and betrayal. The exposition-rich beginning of the story is rather rough sledding as Wallach establishes his world. The story, though, soon picks up and carries the reader along for a wild ride that will leave them eager for the next volume."
- Barnes, Jennifer (December 2015). "Thanks for the Trouble". Booklist. Vol. 112, no. 7. p. 58. Archived from the original on 2025-06-16. Retrieved 2025-06-16 – via Gale.
The review notes: "Zelda's manic-pixie-dream-girl qualities become especially exaggerated by Parker's seeming ease with her eventual decision. Still, Wallach offers much for teen readers to ponder: immortality, the future, how we make peace with the death of loved ones, and the choices we make with the time we have on this earth."
- Maher, John (2020-10-01). "RPG? Puzzle? Parlor Game? Escape Room? This Game Is All Four and More". Publishers Weekly. Gale A639115492. Archived from the original on 2025-06-16. Retrieved 2025-06-16.
The article notes: "In March, Terry Rolapp and Tommy Wallach of the escape room company Hatch Escapes were well on their way to launching their second escape room, The Ladder, in Los Angeles. ... The creators are even planning to include, with higher-end editions of the game, a special edition of Frankenstein, featuring original art by comics artist Liana Kangas, numbered and signed by all Mother of Frankenstein creators and the illustrator, and including a new original short story by Wallach set in the world of Mother of Frankenstein."
- Welch, Sarah (March 2016). "Life in hotel lobbies". BookPage. p. 28. Gale A444819312. Archived from the original on 2025-06-16. Retrieved 2025-06-16.
The review notes: "Tommy Wallach offers a sweet coming-of-age novel about a young man learning to overcome loss. Presented as a comically long college application essay, Parker’s narrative is brash and appropriately childish, yet attentive and at times profound. Though the framing device is a bit far-fetched, and Zelda leans a bit too far toward Manic Pixie Dream Girl, there’s a lot to love about the poignant, lighthearted Thanks for the Trouble."
- "We All Looked Up". Hollins Critic. Vol. 52, no. 3. June 2015. pp. 19+. Archived from the original on 2025-06-16. Retrieved 2025-06-16 – via Gale.
The review notes: "This is Tommy Wallach's first novel, and it is awesome. (Yes, I really am using that word correctly.) The storytelling is riveting and amazing. The dialogue is real and gritty; it came as no surprise to me that Paramount has already optioned the film rights for this book."
- Sinclair, Sam (2015-09-22). "Wallach, Tommy: We All Looked Up". School Librarian. Vol. 63, no. 3. p. 186. Archived from the original on 2025-06-16. Retrieved 2025-06-16 – via Gale.
The review notes: "Tommy Wallach, who is an interesting combination of writer and musician, has created an 'end of the world story' that feels very different to the current crop of dystopian teen novels. The plot of We All Looked Up has a 'Brat Pack' movie feel, as we follow four high school seniors who all seem to be living up to their labels, until an asteroid is discovered that has the potential to end the world as we know it. (Therefore, it's no wonder the book has already been optioned by Paramount for the big screen.)"
- Gamboa, Glen (2009-01-06). "Drops". Newsday. Archived from the original on 2025-06-16. Retrieved 2025-06-16 – via Newspapers.com.
The article notes: "Newcomer Tommy Wallach clearly idolizes the gorgeous, clever piano-pop of Rufus Wainwright. The inspiration runs throughout his debut EP, "Tommy Wallach" (Decca) — in his meticulous songwriting, his charming delivery, even his subject matter, tackling aching songs of unrequited love ("Elodie"), drunken hookups (the New Orleans-tinged "Drunk") and, well, "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover." It's actually in his cover of the Paul Simon classic that Wallach, a McSweeney's writer as well as a singer-songwriter, shows off his range, beatboxing the percussion with a bit of hip-hop swagger amid the swell of strings."

Huberath), a chemist (Andrzej Zimniak), an editor (Tomasz Kołodziejczak), and two writers (Andrzej Sapkowski and Jacek Dukaj) contributed to the volume and belong to different generations of Polish writers. The stories, mostly science fiction, are set either in the future or the past, but, while being disturbing, their significance goes beyond that of stories that fall within the tradition of the best-known Polish sci-fi writer, Stanislaw Lern. Michael Kandel, the translator and editor of the volume, is himself not only a skilful translator of Lem's novels, but also an author of well-received fiction anda nominee for the 2012 American Science Fiction and Fantasy Translation Awards for this very volume."

The review notes: "A recently published collection of short stories, “A Polish Book of Monsters. Five Dark Tales from Contemporary Poland,” edited and translated by Michael Kandel (who is a well-known translator of Stanisław Lem), is a modest but commendable attempt to introduce some of the most interesting samples of Polish fantasy and science fiction to English-speaking audiences. ... Even if not all of the stories in “A Polish Book of Monsters” are masterpieces, it is nonetheless a recommended reading for all who have appreciation for imaginative literature. Allegorical reading is required to fully appreciate some of these works, but they are certainly worth the time and effort. The only problem with this collection is that the title might be slightly misleading. Four of the five stories are more than a decade old and even though they were authored by the biggest names in Polish fantastic literature, their source is hardly “contemporary Poland.”"
- Froggatt, Michael (April 2012). "A Polish Book of Monsters: Five Dark Tales from Contemporary Poland. Edited and Translated by Michael Kandel". Slavonica. Vol. 18, no. 1. pp. 78–79. doi:10.1179/1361742712Z.0000000004. ISSN 1361-7427. EBSCOhost 79680617.
The review notes: "Michael Kandel, in his introduction to this collection of fantastic short stories, asserts that there is something unique about Polish monsters. While the monsters of the Anglophone world— Frankenstein, Dracula, Freddy Kruger — may still bear traces of humanity, and evoke thereader’s pity, their core purpose remains ‘to make us gasp and scream’ (pp. xvii-xviii). The Polish monster is a far more ambivalent creature, as ‘the Polish mind, even in the throes of patriotism, observes that the line between good and evil, between human and monstrous, canbe perilously thin’ (p. xix). It is the essential tragedy of the monsters gathered here, combined with the themes of courage and betrayal running through these stories, that the editor claims make them distinctively Polish. ... One does not need to accept Kandel’s editorial assertion — the ‘American’ monster is them, while the Polish monster is us — to enjoy the stories he has collected here in support of his case. His translations succeed admirably in evoking five very different worlds and moods, and while the stories collected here vary in quality, they do present an intriguing cross-section of fantasy writing in Poland over the last twenty-five years."

The review notes: "Viewing the monsters in this collection through the lens provided by the introduction, we see them reflect ourselves. Literary monsters provide us a means to examine our essential humanity a help us practice the ethics of seeing the human in others. With this wonderful collection, Michael Kandel has offered us a chance for multiple insights: into a literature and culture that we risk overlooking, into what that literature and culture can help us understand about our own literature, and into even ourselves and others."

The review notes: "In addition to visionary fancy and a pessimistic tone, the stories in Kandel's anthology display a fascination with various different worlds and beings, war and post-war devastation, and memory and forgetting. Although the recently translated novels of Olga Tokarczuk and Magdalena Tulli are composed in an entirely different genre, they too share these concerns."

The book notes: "Kandel's translation eventually found its way into a short story collection A Polish Book of Monsters. Five Dark Tales From Contemporary Poland, published under the auspices of the Polish Institute for Arts and Sciences of America, New York in 2010. The collection, edited and translated wholly by Kandel, downplays the game link completely, going instead for the 'promoting Polish culture' angle. It contains a selection of five stories by some of the most prominent Polish fantasy authors - Andrzej Sapkowski, Jacek Dukaj, Marek S. Huberath, Tomasz Kolodziejczak and Andrzej Zimniak. The translator provides a short bio for each author, a characterization of Poland, and a fantastically insightful introduction into the nature of Polish monsters, which in his opinion differ from the Western counterparts in that "they come from within"."

The book notes: "As has already been mentioned, there are two English versions of the short story. The Witcher is a rendition by Danuta Stok first published in 2007 by Gollancz (UK) as a part of The Last Wish collection, and Spellmaker is a translation by Michael Kandel published in 2010 by PIASA Books (US) in A Polish Book of Monsters (along with short stories by Polish fantasy authors such as Marek Huberath, Tomasz Kotodziejezak, Andrzej Zimniak and Jacek Dukaj)."

Miss Behave's Mavericks suggestion
Nice work on this. I just reviewed this and gave it a tick of approval. I do have one minor concern which you can feel free to ignore or address. I didn't want it to become a stumbling block at the DYK review so I didn't raise it there. There is a potential notability controversy that I could see being raised. The issue is with the lack of any sourcing from materials outside Las Vegas media. It's possible that some editors might perceive this article as failing WP:NEVENT due to lack of evidence that it passes WP:GEOSCOPE, WP:DIVERSE, and WP:LASTING. I write a lot on stage works, and I generally try to include reviews from outside the geographic area of the production in order to demonstrate wider notability. I encourage you to try to incorporate other types of sources if you can find them so as to avoid a potential problem while it's running on the main page. I would hope that a notability issue wouldn't be raised given the number of materials you have used, but as you know the wikipedia community isn't always predictable when it comes to evaluating notability in relation to event pages. Best.4meter4 (talk) 15:48, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi 4meter4. Thank you for reviewing the article and for the note. I tried to find sources outside of the Las Vegas area but couldn't find any aside from a short article in Travel Weekly. I think another notability guideline that could be applied to the show is Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies)#Audience says, "The source's audience must also be considered. Significant coverage in media with an international, national, or at least regional audience (e.g., the biggest daily newspaper in any US state) is a strong indication of notability." The show received significant coverage in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, which is the "the largest circulating daily newspaper in Nevada", so the audience requirement is met even though both the show and the Las Vegas Review-Journal are based in Las Vegas. I agree that the Wikipedia community at AfD can be unpredictable, but I think the guideline supports retaining this article. Cunard (talk) 05:25, 26 April 2025 (UTC)

Capsule reviews
I am going to try and avoid commenting further at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lip Service (2000 film) because I think I have made my point clearly, and I'll leave it to the discretion of the closer to consider the arguments. However, I'd respectfully point out that WP:NFILM explicitly disallows capsule reviews (A capsule review or mini review is a form of appraisal, usually associated with journalism, that offers a relatively short critique of a specified creative work (movie, music album, restaurant, painting, etc.). Capsule reviews generally appear in publications like newspapers and magazines and may be placed within the context of a cultural digest section of a publication.
) as contributing to notability: Examples of coverage insufficient to fully establish notability include newspaper listings of screening times and venues, "capsule reviews", plot summaries without critical commentary, or listings in comprehensive film guides

The book notes: "Before coming to West End Games, Greg Costikyan had already been working on an RPG design called "Paranoia." The core ideas for the game came from friend Dan Gelber, who had created a computer-controlled world of dystopic adventure. He'd been running these stories of "Alpha Complex" for his local group when Costikyan —a long with long-time friend and former SPI co-worker Eric Goldberg — approached him about turning the setting into a professional product. ... Goldberg would later recount Gelber handing the two of them 10 or 11 pizza-stained pages that described Alpha Complex. Costikyan and Goldberg then set out to turn those ideas into a complete manuscript. ... Gelber, Costikyan, and Goldberg licensed Paranoia to West End Games for publication. Because the game wasn't designed in-house, the three retained ultimate ownership of the game — something that would be an important distinction several years down the road."

That's not a fair assessment, however. Layman Allen has spent 20 years devising and testing games in the real world — games like W't! N Proof that develop logic skills, and others, Including Equations and On-Sets, to teach math skills. His results have impressed even skeptics. Since its invention 20 years ago, W'ff 'N Proof has become an academic and commercial success, selling more than 200,000 sets by Allen's estimate and improving student scores dramatically in intelligence tests."

The article notes: "But the creator of the "games" wasn't playing around. Layman Allen, a University of Michigan law professor and mental health researcher, designed the games to increase the motivation to learn. The games have become popular nationwide."

The article notes: "Ever since educational games called "WFF IN Proof" and "Equations" came on the market in the 1960s, a growing number of players across the country have became adversaries in a battle of theorems and equations. Such intellectual combat has the endorsement of Layman E. Allen, a U-M professor. who has been waging his own attack on the notion that learning must be drudgery. A law professor and a research scientist at U-M, Allen is author and distributor of "WEF 'N Proof," "Equations" and other learning games which challenge players — both young and old — to pursue more complicated levels of abstract reasoning. "WFF 'N Proof" (the "WFF" stands for "Well-Formed Formula") is essentially a game of logic, while "Equations" is a mathematical game."

The article notes: "Queries 'n Theories by Layman E. Allen, Peter Kugel, and Joan Ross (WFF 'N Proof, 88) successfully tackles two subjects, Scientific Method and Language. The fundamental game consists of one player (known as the Native) who creates a Language, using colored chips in place of words."

The article notes: "U-M Prof. Layman E. Allen has spent many years trying to find ways to make learning more fun. The fruits of his research bear such unscholarly-sounding names as "WFF 'N Poof" and "Equations." These are among the learning games created by Allen as teaching tools for youngsters and even for college students and adults. A U-M law professor and research scientist at the University's Mental Health Research Institute, Allen developed "WFF 'N Proof" more than 10 years ago as a means of teaching his law students symbolic logic, (The "WFF," by the way, stands for "well formed formula.") "Equations," the other of his best known games, deals primarily with mathematical formulas. Allen's creations are now widely used at elementary, junior and senior high schools across the country. The U-M professer contends that, in addition to their value in teaching, the games can help motivate students."

The article notes: "Equations began almost 20 years ago as a game for teaching law students logic, WFF 'N Proof (Well-Formed Formula and the Proof). In the last 10 or 15 years, Allen and education specialists have developed a game format that's flexible enough to accommodate mathematics material from elementary level to first-year college level. Seven years ago, Allen and his colleagues tried the games out on seventh graders in innercity Detroit schools. Those students, who played Equations all through high school, are now in college. The mere fact that some of the students, who are from an area that historically produces no college-bound students, are in college at all is indicative of the success of the Equations program, says Allen."

- Awesome, thank you! :) That should be more than enough to make something out of that tiny stub, which I shall do tomorrow. Thank you as always! BOZ (talk) 05:02, 15 September 2025 (UTC)
New drafts are always a thing, so do you see anything more for Draft:Shadi Torbey? A list with his 14 games credits: [23] BOZ (talk) 13:01, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
Hi BOZ (talk · contribs). Here are sources I found about the subject:
- Dubins, Jerry (September 2006). "Collections: Vocal - Séverac; Meyerbeer; Saint-Saens; Poulenc; Ibert". Fanfare. Vol. 30, no. 1. pp. 286–287. ProQuest 1265937.
The article notes: " SÉVERAC Le roi a fait battre tambour. 1 Le roi Renaud. 1 MEYERBEER La chanson du maiître Floh. 1 Le moine. 1 SAINT-SAËNS La danse macabre. 1 Le pas d'armes du Roi Jean. 1 POULENC Chansons gaillardes. 2 IBERT Les chansons de Don Quichotte 2 · Shadi Torbey (bs); 1 Lionel Lhote (bar); 2 David Miller (pn); 1 Daniel Blumenthal (pn) 2 · CYPRÈS 9618 (55:15)"
The article notes: "Based on their delivery here, one would be hard-pressed to appreciate the pre-Shostakovichlike wry, mordant, sardonic humor of the two songs by which Séverac is represented on this disc, Le roi a fait battre tambour and Le roi Renaud . And this is where the shortcomings of bass Shadi Torbey must be noted. To put it as charitably as possible, let's just say that one of Torbey's specialties is not singing on pitch. To make matters worse, the low-lying notes of these songs, which are very low indeed, are out of Torbey's range and reach to produce them with anything resembling musical sound. If you want to know what the first of these two songs can and should sound like, listen to François Le Roux with Graham Johnson in an all-Séverac recital on Hyperion. ... Even with the Hampson ostensibly out of circulation, Meyerbeer's songs are not neglected on disc. The estimable Fischer-Dieskau gives us a whole slew of them in a large, diversified collection on DG. Torbey is not as vocally strained here or in the Saint-Saëns numbers, but pitch approximation continues to dog him."

In three languages (Italian, German, and French), the young singer admirably mastered and articulated, literally dazzling and captivating the audience. It was Mozart's The Magic Flute that enchanted him (it's true, in the genre of wordplay, it's a bit easy, I grant you). A 33 rpm record was playing on repeat, and there he was, back in Brussels, signing up for singing lessons. Ten years later, he won the Vocation Prize at the Verviers International Singing Competition (Belgium) in 1999, won the Golden Voice at the 39th Golden Voice Tournament in 2001, and was third prize winner at the Queen Elisabeth International Musical Competition in 2004. - Oh wow, that's great - thanks! :) I shall implement that in the near future. BOZ (talk) 05:18, 28 September 2025 (UTC)
One more draft, Draft:Raymond Bayless was actually a deleted article that got restored. Among other things, he did a handful of Call of Cthulhu RPG books: [24] BOZ (talk) 12:16, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
Hi BOZ (talk · contribs). Here are sources I found about the subject:
- "Excursion Into The Past". Southwest Art. Vol. 3, no. 9. April 1974. pp. 60–63. ProQuest 1542848904.
The article notes: "The art of Raymond Bayless is in many ways an excursion into the past; a voyage back to the romantic era of the Hudson River artists; the painterly world of the great Dutch landscape masters, and the famed school of the English landscape painters. It has been frequently remarked that to view his paintings is to view the works of a living "old master." Though reflecting much of the aura of the past both in technique and in atmosphere, Bayless' paintings still are very much of the present and near present and many illustrate the varied moods of the American West. His pictures cover a large range of size; the smallest about two by three inches and the largest a panoramic scene measuring three by five feet. And interestingly, the degree of detail displayed in the larger works is close to that found in the smaller paintings. The subject matter of Bayless' paintings extends from that appropriate to still life to immense vistas of hills and townlets, groves of trees and expanses of fields, all melting into a haze in the distant horizon."
- Weinstock, Matt (1968-08-05). "'From the Clear Blue Sky---' Some Cases Put on Record". Los Angeles Times. Archived from the original on 2025-10-19. Retrieved 2025-10-19 – via Newspapers.com.
The article notes: "L.A. ghost seeker Raymond Bayless has put his findings in a paperback book, "The Enigma of the Poltergeist," which adds considerably to the lore of psychic phenomena but admittedly offers no solution to the mystery of falling stones, self-starting fires, noises, voices, disappearing objects and things that go bump in the night. Personal investigation of strange happenings is an avocation for Bayless, a professional artist. By the way, he had a picture of a rainbow in a recent exhibition at Barnsdall Park."

The book notes on page 107: "It was a few days before Christmas. Raymond Bayless, a young man who lived in Hollywood, California, and his associate, medium Attila von Szalay, were testing an amplifying system they’d built in order to better hear what they believed were the sounds of the dead."
The book notes on page 108: "Raymond Bayless was not a scientist. He wasn’t even a college graduate. Bayless was a self-taught artist and illustrator, whose paintings, by the end of his career, were hanging in the National Air and Space Museum, the State Department, and the Pentagon. Raymond was drawn to parapsychology after he saw a sewing machine levitate when he was twelve years old. That was it. A simple household object performing a simple action that objects around the house are not supposed to be able to do. He wanted to find out how it had happened."
The book notes on page 116: "Raymond Bayless continued to write over the years, whenever there was a weeping Madonna, unexplained falling rocks, or other strange phenomena."
The book notes on page 119: "Before Raymond Bayless died in 2004, he told his wife, Marjorie, “I will return.”"

The book notes: "RDead (1979) with D. Scott Rogo, after a two-year investigation into phantom phone calls. The authors were surprised to find that a large number of people had received phone calls from friends and relatives who had died. In some cases the call was received before the recipient knew of the death of the caller. In other cases, the caller was long deceased. In 1956, Bayless became interested in the work of Attila von Szalay, who had done extensive work on spirit voices. The two worked together and in 1959 published their initial findings in The Journal of the American Society for Psychical Research."

The book notes: "Raymond Bayless, another prominent investigator, covered a case in 1980 of particular relevance. He inferred a mechanism very much like that proposed by Colin Keay, two decades later, for how auroral sounds can become audible. To wit: The phone and paging systems in a factory went dead or were drowned out by high-frequency sound when a young female worker was present. Her electric typewriter and calculator, and Bayless's own tape recorder also malfunctioned. The year before, another worker had experienced similar problems in the same setting. In this particular plant, electronic equipment generated strong radio waves and Bayless thought that the two women "modulated radio waves into a form that could be picked up physically on electronic equipment.""

- Schuyler, Michael (1981-11-15). "The Case for Life After Death". Library Journal. Vol. 106, no. 20. p. 2243. EBSCOhost 7419057.
The review notes: "Despite the promise of the title, this book is merely a collection of anecdotal material including out-of-body experiences, ghosts, animal hauntings, mysterious telephone calls, and the like. These accounts span the last 100 years, with many of the cases comfortably out of reach of verification. Most have been reported elsewhere in parapsychological literature. The subject deserves serious treatment, but this book does little to further research in the area. There is nothing new here."
- Nickerson, Susan L. (1979-04-01). "Phone Calls from the Dead". Library Journal. Vol. 104, no. 7. p. 837. EBSCOhost 5611085.
The review notes: "There is something very humorous in the idea of the dead contacting us by telephone, but Rogo and Bayless are quite serious about their two-year in-vestigation, the first systematic study in a field that most parapsychologists have evidently laughed away. The author's compilation of cases and their attempts towards an explanation are impressive. They also give some background on other attempts to communicate with the dead by electronic means. Although they try to report objectively, a certain bias toward belief in survival after death is evident. For parapsychology collections."
- Hansen, George P. (December 1987). "Books in Brief". Journal of Parapsychology. Vol. 45, no. 4. p. 358. ProQuest 1292177295.
The review notes: "The Case for Life After Death by Elizabeth E. McAdams and Raymond Bayless. Chicago: Nelson-Hall, 1981. Pp. viii + 157. $14.95, cloth. This is a popularly written book meant for persons with no previous familiarity with psychical research. The topics include near-death experiences, ghosts, poltergeists, OBEs, tape-recorded voice phenomena, spirit photography, mediumistic communications, and others. The book is primarily a collection of cases recounted in three or four sentences to a page or two. It contains a fair list of references for a book of its scope. The book will probably not be of any interest to persons even slightly familiar with the literature. A very credulous tone is adopted; for instance, Margery and ectoplasm are both accepted as legitimate without adequate indication of the extremely controversial nature of both. The reader is not given much guidance as to care required in investigations of psychical research. It cannot be recommended because of the credulous approach."

- Very nice, thank you! :) I shall work on this one soon. BOZ (talk) 13:05, 19 October 2025 (UTC)
I found one more recently, to add on top of the list of the other 12 that I started this thread with, and this one was redirected very long ago:
Neil Rabens (redirected) - co-inventor of the Milton Bradley game, Twister (died in 2020, long after the article was redirected) [25] BOZ (talk) 13:14, 21 October 2025 (UTC)
Hi BOZ (talk · contribs). Here are sources I found about the subject:
- Huppert, Boyd (2014-06-09). "Inventor of Twister still amazed by game's success: In 1966, he was part of the team that invented the game Twister". WKYC. Archived from the original on 2025-11-02. Retrieved 2025-11-02.
The article notes: "When the letters arrive asking for his autograph, Neil Rabens can't help but shake his head. ... Some would argue he stumbled on something even better. In 1966, he was part of the team that invented the game Twister. ... Rabens path to the game "that ties you up in knots" began in the mid-1960s when he went to work for Reynolds Guyer Agency of Design in St. Paul, where he teamed up with Charlie Foley, a creative thinker who had also recently joined the firm. ... While Rabens envisioned players contorting on colored dots individually, Foley suggested rearranging the dots so they'd be forced to physically interact. The game they called Pretzel – later changed to Twister – was born. ... Foley, who passed away in 2013, shares the patent for Twister with Rabens. ... Rabens, an illustrator, sketched the drawings that grace the patent and the original Twister box."

The article notes: "But Neil Rabens did find a way to bring fun into millions of households. In 1966 he was part of the team that invented the game Twister. Rabens and his coworker Charlie Foley were tasked with developing games for Reynolds Guyer Agency, which had already been toying around with the idea of a stand up game using human players as the playing pieces. ... Rabens still receives letters in the mail asking for autographs and he can't help but shake his head. ... Click the video above to hear Rabens describe how he came up with the idea for the game first deemed "too risqué" for the Sears catalog."

The article notes: "Guyer hired prolific game designer Chuck Foley, and artist/cartoonist Neil Rabens, to expand on his original idea, at that time called 'Pretzel'. ... The title 'Pretzel' was already in use, so the inventors renamed the game 'Twister.' Foley and Rabens applied for a U.S. patent on April 14, 1966 but there was a dilemma. ... Game designer and artist, Neil Rabens (1929-2020) painted custom signs and murals. As well, Rabens was an author, writing and illustrating several children's books, and a musician, playing guitar and later the banjo. Rabens "was a man of God," stated his obituary. He served as a church deacon and taught children's classes. With his wife, the kind man was a foster parent "caring for 37 children from diverse backgrounds" over a decade."

He said Columbia offered him the post after he obtained his Ph.D. in 2002. He also received an award from the university's microbiology department for his research in cellular elements that might be involved in the resistance of bacteria to multiple antibiotics."

The article notes: "Cosmic Encounter first landed on shelves in 1977, but its story begins half a decade earlier. Having worked in the Peace Corps on the Pacific Marshall Islands, Peter Olotka returned to Cape Cod in Massachusetts with his wife Cindy and young son Greg, and took a job as a Community Organiser for the Cape's anti-poverty program. He met Bill Eberle when he came for a job interview. Eberle had worked various jobs from being a teacher in Washington DC to a reporter in New Bedford. Olotka didn't hire Bill Eberle, but despite this the pair ended up becoming friends. ... In 1972, the four men formed the game design cooperative Future Pastimes, in a concerted effort to put this explosively original idea into production. ... In 2008, 31 years after Cosmic Encounter was first released, the game finally found a publisher that Olotka and Eberle felt truly understood it - Fantasy Flight."

Now the Olotkas have 60 days to find a new nursing home for Mrs. Olotka's father, Tom Oatman, a resident of the Manor since summer. ... The Manor is one mile from his house."

The article notes: "Peter Olotka of Centerville worried what would happen to his father-in-law, Tom Oatman, when the Manor nursing home in Hyannis announced it was closing last month. But now Olotka and his wife, Cynthia, are breathing a sigh of relief, because Oatman is happily settled at Mayflower Place in Yarmouth. ... At first, Olotka's father-in-law was moved to the Royal Megansett Nursing Home in Falmouth, but the 40-minute drive each way there was too much for family members in Centerville. So after a week, Oatman was relocated to Mayflower Place, a 10-minute drive from the Olotka house."

The article notes: "Another adventure game, "Close Encounters," captured the attention of a constant circle of conventioneers. This is a role-playing game with a science fiction motif. Peter Olotka of Cape Cod, Mass., who designed the game, believes the popularity of games is burgeoning because they offer hundreds of hours of dependable entertainment. ... According to Olotka, his games are humorous and social. He believes they require more mental ability and are less anti-social than video games."

Peter Olotka — Peter lives in Cape Cod where he can be found basking in a new solar greenhouse, playing Cosmic Encounter with his two children, and sometimes his wife, and serving as director of the Cape & Islands Community Action Agency. The book notes: "Described by co-designer Peter Olotka as having been conceived as “the anti—Risk” (2010, p. 285), Cosmic Encounter begins with the simple premise of several players adopting the role of an alien race ... Eon’s design team of Bill Eberle, Jack Kittredge and Peter Olotka have achieved a somewhat legendary status within the gaming community, further enhanced by later innovative titles such as the evolution-themed Quirks (1980) and Borderlands (1982), a complex mix of resource management, trade and diplomacy which introduced the idea of rotating the start player in each round, a mechanic borrowed from card games that remains commonplace in European designs (Levy, 1999)."

The reliability of the publisher is unclear. The book notes: "The story of the Dune board game begins in Massachusetts, USA, in 1972. Peter Olotka sits in the offices of Cape Cod's anti-poverty program, having recently moved to the area with his wife and young son. Peter has not long left the Peace Corps, and is settling in to his new job as Community Organiser. Part of his responsibilities involve hiring staff for the office, which is how he finds himself sitting opposite a man called Bill Eberle."

The article notes: "In Nexon's Shattered Galaxy, players control a small army of ground, mobile and airborne units in a war for domination of the planet. Of course, with around 30 other players contesting territorial borders at the front line, that's not likely to ever happen, but it makes for some very interesting politics. "The emphases are teamwork and tactics instead of resource gathering and amassing a large army," says producer Kevin Saunders. Players must co-operate and form alliances, or take their chances by going solo into enormous battles. Each battle rewards you with experience points, so you can come back with a meaner fighting unit. "The genre is exceedingly difficult to design for," says Saunders, who notes that Shattered Galaxy's beta test lasted over 18 months. He adds, "Consider the infamous player-killing problems that plagued early MMORPGs such as Ultima Online. The solutions to these problems adopted by later MMORPGs almost exclusively involved placing severe restrictions on how player versus player battles take place.""

List of Chinese-language sources
Hey Cunard! I am graduating from uni, so I probably won't be able to be on Wikipedia as often. I promise I will return whenever I am available and will try to contribute to AFD. In case I am unable to contribute directly, I have written two essays: List of Hong Kong sources and List of Taiwanese sources, which are translated from the zhwiki’s list of perennial sources. Since I frequently encounter editors questioning certain Chinese-language sources during AFD discussions or article creation, I usually refer them to the zhwiki's list. But explaining and translating the source descriptions into English for each case takes quite a bit of time and effort. To streamline this, I decided to translate the list once and for all for future citation purposes. I have added anchors to each entry, so if someone wants to cite specific excerpts from Ming Pao or HK01, simply typing WP:HKRS#MingPao or WP:HKRS#HK01 is fine. Currently, I have only translated the entries for Hong Kong and Taiwanese sources, as enwiki has a much stricter stance on state-owned media, and the assessment of Chinese sources differs significantly between the two WikiProjects. I hope these essays can be useful in future scenarios and especially assist you in discussions. Thanks again for everything you have done on Wikipedia, Cunard, and happy editing!! —👑PRINCE of EREBOR📜 05:51, 10 August 2025 (UTC)

Thank you for taking the time to translate the Chinese Wikipedia's list into List of Hong Kong sources and List of Taiwanese sources. These are invaluable resources that will be very helpful when discussing source reliability at AfD. I hope to see you around AfD whenever you have the time and inclination. Thank you again for all you've done and congratulations again! Cunard (talk) 07:55, 10 August 2025 (UTC)

Notability
Hi Cunard, I know you are a maven with the notability guidelines, so I am asking for your advice. Through typing the wrong first time, I discovered the article Kyle McDonald. This page looks like PR fluff without any notable sources. However, when I search on Google News, there is a crumb of notable coverage (like 404 media) on some of the stuff he's made, but little on him.
Can you see if he fails WP:NARTIST? If he does, nominate him for deletion. Thanks. - -1ctinus📝🗨 19:13, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi 1ctinus (talk · contribs). Thank you for the kind words and the note. The Wikipedia article includes this article in The Verge, this article in Colossal, and this article in Spectrum News. I also found a lengthy paragraph of coverage in this book and a lengthy profile of him and his work in the University of Lisbon publication CROMA. I think there is enough coverage in reliable sources for Kyle McDonald to meet Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Basic criteria. Cunard (talk) 08:34, 1 September 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Cunard. Hi Aviationwikiflight (talk · contribs). All but two of the sources I found were published within a month of the crash. Of the remaining two sources, the 2021 source provides 100 words about the subject, while the 2010 source is from the deprecated publication WP:EPOCHTIMES. Here are the sources about the subject:

The accident occurred near the mining area of Sazigou Village in Balinzuo Banner. Three people were killed and one was injured. The accident investigation report indicated that the Yun-12 crashed because the aircraft's speed dropped to the critical stall speed during ultra-low altitude operation, causing it to stall during a turn. Due to the extremely low altitude, the pilot was unable to recover from the stall, resulting in the crash."

All three crew members of Feilong Professional Airlines were killed, and a technical operator from the Ministry of Land and Resources' Aviation Remote Sensing Center was seriously injured but fortunately survived. The pilot in question was among the deceased. Since he is no longer alive, we won't mention his name. The head of the Civil Aviation Administration did not mention the reason for the 2008 inspection of pilot qualifications. According to informed sources, the incident stemmed from a "hard landing" by a Shenzhen Airlines pilot, which nearly resulted in a crash. During the investigation of this incident, the Civil Aviation Administration discovered that the pilot had "poor skills" and had falsified his qualifications."

Could you help me find sources on these topics?
Could you find me sources for these aircraft accidents? You seem to be really good at finding sources for less well known crashes.

1982 Sukhumi Dranda Airport runway collision
USAir Flight 499
1952 Leningrad mid-air collision

- Hi Zaptain United. I do not have the time to do detailed searches for sources for these topics. In my experience in the previous section, only Chinese-language sources provided sustained significant coverage about the 1922 Beijing-Han Airlines crash and China Eastern Airlines Flight 5510. It is likely that most sustained coverage about these incidents is in Burmese, Abkhaz, or Russian, or Portuguese. It would require language and source expertise to locate sources about these topics. Cunard (talk) 10:12, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- would you have time to do a detailed search on just USAir Flight 499 to see if there are anymore sources? Zaptain United (talk) 21:45, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- I did a search for sources for USAir Flight 499 and found only coverage from 1986 on Newspapers.com. In this search for example, I found this article from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and this article from the Associated Press. Cunard (talk) 09:36, 15 November 2025 (UTC)

Sources on radical feminism
I know you are particularly well-versed in searching for sources about Chinese topics. I am researching the topic of gender-critical feminism or TERF in China, and have added what little material I have found here at Gender-critical feminism by country#China. Do you know of any good search engines or academic databases I could search in?
Thanks, Katzrockso (talk) 20:14, 8 November 2025 (UTC)
Hi Katzrockso (talk · contribs). Thank you for your excellent work in this subject area. I particularly like how this detailed article covers perspectives from many countries, including several in Asia! To find sources about this topic, I went to Google Scholar and Google Books and searched for:
"TERF" China
Here are sources that I think have not been used in the article yet:
- Guo, Lifu (2024). "Medals and conspiracies: Chinese and Japanese online trans-exclusionary". In Kawasaka, Kazuyoshi; Würrer, Stefan (eds.). Beyond Diversity: Queer Politics, Activism, and Representation in Contemporary Japan. Berlin: De Gruyter. pp. 117–134. doi:10.1515/9783110767995-010. ISBN 978-3-11-076799-5. Retrieved 2025-11-15 – via Google Books.
The book notes: "More recently, queer studies scholar Fukunaga Gen’ya (2022) has investigated the adoption of TERF narratives by the young generation of South Korean feminists, who distinguish themselves from the trans-friendly earlier generation of feminists. In China, these debates have not been theorized at the time of writing. But according to my own observations of China’s communities of sexual minorities since 2015, there appears to be a clear change after 2020, reflected by an emphasis on biological bodies among feminist online influencers and the creation of various women-only online spaces (chún nǚ kōng jiān). Building on the abovementioned academic studies (Fujitaka, 2021; Fukunaga, 2022), this paper endeavors to provide a contextualized discussion of transnational TERF narratives in East Asia."
- Ma, Chris Jingchao; Wang, Heng Simone (2025-09-15). "Cyber Trans Panic: Chinese Trans-Antagonistic Feminism and the Transnational Circulation of Transmisogyny on Social Media". Bulletin of Applied Transgender Studies. Vol. 4. pp. 121–137. doi:10.57814/vn41-fk88.
The article notes: "Trans-antagonism and transmisogyny have gained increasing visibility on social media globally. In this article, we explore how trans-antagonism and transmisogyny have developed among Chinese feminist communities, called jijin nüquan (“radical feminists”) on Chinese social media. We argue that the trans-antagonism and transmisogyny displayed on Chinese social media must be understood through a historical and transnational lens in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of it."
The article notes: "Over the past decade, China has witnessed a significant feminist mobilization and growing consciousness on social media, with many individuals taking up the label of jijin nüquan (激进女权, “radical feminists” or “radical women’s rights”) to identify themselves. Meanwhile, the activities and visibility of feminist and queer non-profit organizations have significantly decreased, following accusations from state-affiliated institutions and media labeling both feminism and LGBTQ+ activism as the “invasion of Western ideology.” Feminists on Chinese social media, particularly those identified as jijin nüquan, have increasingly exhibited explicit trans-antagonism and especially transmisogyny in recent years."
- Liu, Songyin (2022). "Negotiating the Non-Negotiable: Debating Transgender Issues on Chinese Social Media". In Pain, Paromita (ed.). LGBTQ Digital Cultures: A Global Perspective. New York: Routledge. pp. 101–115. doi:10.4324/9781003196457-8. ISBN 978-1-032-05183-3. Retrieved 2025-11-15 – via Google Books.
The book notes: "The discussion under #transgender employment was most heated in individual accounts and official media accounts. Topics were more diverse in individual accounts, including popular culture, fandom, and celebrity, and among the various themes, the most political actual trans-related theme was feminist discussion of transgender accountability. The contention derived from different understandings and strands of feminism is illustrated clearly in the following exchange: ... This discussion happened on 31 March 2020, International Transgender Day of Visibility. This text was thus co-produced within an atmosphere of celebrating trans communities globally, and the users who participated in this discussion were at least aware of transgender issues. There was also a clear threshold for this discussion: the discussants were all at least nominally feminists, as the question setting of this post echoes the heated debate of transgender-exclusive-radical-feminism (TERF), which is a global feature of current feminist discussion."
- Feng, Haiyan; Liu, Songyan; Zeng, Xiangjian (2025-04-11). "Co-opetition in the censored internet: a corpus-based critical discourse analysis of queer-feminist counterdiscourse in the Chinese context". Feminist Media Studies. pp. 1–20. doi:10.1080/14680777.2025.2489956.
The article is available here on Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Library. The article notes: "Although there is cooperation between the Chinese feminist and LGBTQ+ movements on anti-patriarchy issues, the internal tensions within them cannot be ignored. For example, Leshui Qiao (2022) observed that during the JK Rowling anti-trans controversy, Chinese feminists on Weibo used TERF (Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist) rhetoric—such as “biological sex cannot be changed”—to label transgender women as “male invaders.” Similarly, Guo Lifu (2024) found that during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, anti-transgender conspiracy theories surged in Chinese social media when New Zealand's transgender weightlifter, Laurel Hubbard, became controversial. One accusation was that the International Olympic Committee used the “transgender agenda” to weaken female athletes, framing transgender people as “threats to national honor” and narrowing feminism to a biological-sex politics."
- Lee, Sang-Bin (2025-07-27). "A tale of two feminisms: radical vs non-radical translation". The Translator (3): 270–289. doi:10.1080/13556509.2025.2518760.
The article is available here on Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Library. The abstract notes: "This study examines the Korean and Japanese translations of Beauty and Misogyny, a radical feminist work authored by Sheila Jeffreys. The two translations are fundamentally different in their sociocultural contexts. The Korean version was released in 2018 at the peak of the country's feminist movement. It was produced by a trans-exclusionary radical feminist (TERF) affiliated with a radical feminist publishing venture."
The article notes: "The Korean translation of BM was released in July 2018 by Yeolda Books. Established in November 2017, Yeolda is known for supporting radical feminism, a political movement that calls for a dramatic reordering of society to eliminate male supremacy (Buchanan 2010, 396). Yeolda particularly endorses Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminism (TERF), a branch of radical feminism that views biological sex as a definitive factor and dismisses the idea of a socially constructed gender (K.-H. Lee 2023; H. Yu 2019, 3)."
I tried to find Chinese-language sources for this topic through searches on CNKI and CQVIP. I searched for "激进女权" (which means "radical feminists") and it returned 130 results and 743 results, respectively, on CNKI and CQVIP. However, when I changed the search query to add "跨" (which means "trans") as a second term (CQVIP search), both databases don't return any results. Cunard (talk) 10:01, 15 November 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you very much @Cunard for these sources! I swore I did that but I must not have since I didn't find those sources, haha. These are great sources, especially the first one having analysis of South Korea, Japan and China into one article is very helpful as it can provide a better way to introduce that section. I have a few assorted sources on other Asian countries in a sandbox, but they aren't particularly reliable and there isn't much material to work with besides some information on Taiwan/Republic of China.
- I found one more article here too:
- Yang, Chun; Zhou, Yongyuan (2023-01-02). "Shifting the struggle inward: Mainstream debate on digital grassroots feminism in China". Asian Journal of Women's Studies. 29 (1): 69–96. doi:10.1080/12259276.2023.2183453. ISSN 1225-9276. Retrieved 2025-11-15.
- Which notes "Because of their separation from married women and transgender people, radicals are accused of undermining the solidarity among women". From reading this literature, I thought that the book Weibo Feminism (ISBN 978-1-350-23148-1) might have discussion of this topic, but it only mentions Weibo feminists opposition to the LGBTQ movement as a whole.
- I could only find one good Chinese language source here [33] that provided only a brief discussion of trans people in it. I wonder if there is different terminology used in the Chinese language literature or if it hasn't been broached yet. I also tried searching for 排跨基女, which was the term zh.wiki used for TERF (zh:排跨基女) with no results either. I was really hoping to get a perspective from Chinese scholars living in China, but perhaps more research will be published in the future.
- Either way, this is enough material to further expand the section, so thanks again. Katzrockso (talk) 11:08, 15 November 2025 (UTC)
- Katzrockso, I'm happy to help! Thank you for finding this additional source and sharing the search term you tried. I think both are possibilities (we're using the wrong search term or the literature hasn't been written yet). This is an area that is the subject of significant recent research and commentary. There should be much more coverage in the future, especially since three of the sources we found here were published this year and the other three were published in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Unreferenced China articles
Cunard here are some unsourced China-related articles that are in danger of being redirected or deleted for being unsourced in the current push to eliminate all unsourced articles (there is a project currently tackling the unsourced backlog). Some of these get deleted by WP:PROD, and don't even show up at AFD. Obviously sourcing said articles is much preferable when possible, and many editors are working to improve them through adding sources. If you don't mind I am going to list some China related ones here in case you have time to add a source or two. Honestly just adding a single source is all that is required to remove the unreferenced tag (you can replace it with needs more citations), so don't feel pressured to article expand or add multiple sources/ verify everything unless you are inspired to do so. Thanks for any time you can give to this, and no worries if your editing interest is elsewhere. I would just like to add some things here that I hope will help you if you continue to talk to Howard the Duck or Scope Creep on the Colet AfD. I have decided not to reply there because those two are extremely persistent and aggressive.
In that same discussion, you can see that Howard the Duck outright claims that The Philippine Star, which has "generally reliable" consensus on this site, is unreliable simply because his favorite journalist died 20 years ago. He is not arguing in good faith.
I hope you take a break and disengage if he escalates with personal attacks or blatant bad faith comments like that one. (He probably will.)
But here are some other reliable and independent sources that talk about Colet extensively, as cited in her Wikipedia page:
- https://latestchika.com/just-in/2024/07/03/107415/bohols-pride-bini-colet-gets-recognition-from-tagbilaran-city/ - Latest Chika is the showbiz news portal of The Philippine Star, a reliable newspaper. The entire article is dedicated to a music award that Colet won from the local government.
- https://latestchika.com/just-in/2025/09/18/117807/bini-colet24th-birthday/ - Same reliable publisher. It is dedicated to Colet as well, and talks extensively about her solo projects. The fan project mentioned (a sailboat with her name and face on it) has nothing to do with social media or interviews either, unlike what those two persistent bad faith editors claim.
- https://manilastandard.net/showbiz/314666934/binis-aiah-and-colet-step-in-to-help-cebu-victims-of-typhoon-tino.html - Charity project. Manila Standard is a reliable newspaper.
- https://andasian.com/why-binis-colet-vergara-is-one-of-2025s-standout-entertainers/ - Those two keep saying this source is "social media driven" or "has no byline", but the author is clearly credited at the end of the article. Said author is cited in various GA-class articles like Shirt (SZA song) (under "Critical reception"). That Colet article also makes it clear that the fans' quotes are not pulled from social media, but were contributed directly to the site. Site states that it follows Independent Press Standards Organisation editorial policies, and is deemed reliable for pop culture by multiple RSN discussions here. The few social media embeds are only for visual illustration.
I would also like to note that HtD repeatedly misrepresents essays like WP:INTERVIEW as policy.
Colet has also been credited for writing, producing, and arranging several notable songs, which in itself should prove her notability under WP:COMPOSER. It's even stated that the track "8" was written and composed solely by Colet.
I hope this can help you. Good luck. I know you've been dealing with those two editors insulting you and obviously not acting in good faith. Bloomagiliw (talk) 11:43, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for sharing these sources at the AfD here. They show that Colet is clearly notable. I am saddened to hear your experiences with those editors. Regarding the second editor, I noticed that others have raised concerns at a deletion review they opened. Regarding the first editor, I reviewed the ANI, which was linked at the Colet AfD, and am sorry he treated you that way. I agree with the reviewing admins who said those were unacceptable personal attacks and that he avoided sanction because those comments were made a while ago. If he makes personal attacks again, please report to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. Requesting an interaction ban is an option if it is too stressful to interact with him but may be impractical if you frequently edit in the same areas. Cunard (talk) 09:07, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
- I appreciate this response. I believe that both editors, especially Scope, should be reported to ANI.
- However, the first ANI I experienced with HtD drained me completely. As you can see, he refused to apologize in the ANI and hasn't changed his behavior at all since then. In the Colet AfD alone, he has continued to be uncivil and mocking.
- HtD also put up Hell University for AfD even when another editor informed him that the show was going to premiere on February 6. He based the AfD on a complete falsehood ("not yet in the filming phase") then tried to paint me as dishonest when I told him that sources indicating it'd already been filmed were added on January 20–23.
- Fortunately, I came with proof because I'm not a dishonest editor: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Hell_University
- But it is exhausting. Improving articles on Wikipedia is a hobby for me. For a while, it really improved my mental health.
- That was until editors like HtD and Scope began harassing and hounding me. What's worse is that I saw that just this week, someone awarded Scope with a barnstar for his aggressive, nasty behavior in AfDs.
- It made me realize that it's not worth trying to bring this to ANI because there are users who see behavior like this, which many users have already identified as bullying and harassment... and will want to reward it.
- Wikipedia is great conceptually. But in reality, it's a place where anonymous bullies and harassers like HtD and Scope are rewarded, facing no real consequences for damaging their co-editors' mental health.
- Thank you again. Bloomagiliw (talk) 14:40, 4 February 2026 (UTC)

There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is Scope creep AfD's hoax analysis, harassing in Royiswariii's talk page. ROY is WAR Talk! 11:52, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
