how do i create a page about my local metal band --Nicotynavs1234 (talk) 22:53, 7 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Distro Tech (20:46, 8 August 2025)

Hello Nobody! I logged in today to find that my IP address (or IP block) is globally blocked. I want to make sure I am abiding by the rules because I want to contribute. Would I be okay to use a personal laptop that doesn't have a proxy or vpn? I was using my employee laptop previously, and assuming they have something in place for cybersecurity I was unfamiliar with. Please let me know how I can work on this. I already tried appealing and was rejected. Thank you for your time and patience with a newly minted wikipedian (or for the time being, wannabe).  :-) --Distro Tech (talk) 20:46, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Distro Tech, editing through an open proxy or VPN is mostly not possible, see Wikipedia:Open proxies for the reasons why. This can affect company devices if they're set up that way. I recommend editing from your personal devices, where you can control what type of access you use. Nobody (talk) 07:15, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Martenpk (06:52, 13 August 2025)

Note: Martenpk's mentor Grumpylawnchair is away.

Thank you for your response. After reflecting on the feedback I received, I'm eager to clarify my perspective regarding the criticism about a potential conflict of interest in my role as an authority on this topic. I believe that those who are well-versed in a field often bring valuable insights, and I welcome the opportunity to learn from anyone who might have more expertise regarding the history of our community club.

In my research, I’ve drawn on examples from other cricket clubs that have pages on your platform; however, I truly believe that our club's history is unique and vibrant. The connections to the Ashes—a significant and storied sporting trophy between Australia and England—add to our narrative and are integral to the broader cultural history of both nations. This is a story that resonates beyond cricket, enriching the understanding of the township of Sunbury and Australia's formative years as a colony.

I want to express that I was taken aback by the suggestion that my work could be dismissed or seen as self-serving, particularly since I have been actively refining my writing. I was using various resources, including YouTube and ChatGPT, to develop the tone and language of my piece; it was still a work in progress.

Moving forward, I am committed to my historical research and plan to continue sharing my findings on our website. While I appreciate constructive criticism, I find it disheartening when my work is perceived as a mere personal narrative. I had hoped for support and guidance on this journey rather than criticism.

Farewell, and I hope the trolls involved are satisfied in achieving their goal. Certainly, your platform is devalued by this treatment of me, and I will not hesitate to share my experience with the sporting community I am connected with. Farewell. --Martenpk (talk) 06:52, 13 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Space.tracker.nerd (20:53, 13 August 2025)

Hello! I am interested in creating wiki pages for the space community. I began doing so with a few articles being accepted, but just came across my first "speedy deletion" for "self promotion". The article was for an organization I read about which has sent two people to space. I feel that is incredibly noteworth. Are there good resources to better understand "self promotion"? I am not affiliated with the organization at all. --Space.tracker.nerd (talk) 20:53, 13 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Space.tracker.nerd, there's a few things too look out for. There are some words to watch, also the use of unreliable sources. Your use of sources from ChatGPT is also a bit concerning. Nobody (talk) 17:04, 14 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the feedback! I did use chat to refind sources I read previously online. Will be more careful in that regard to take those sources directly off google. I'm reading the links you sent now to be a better editor into the future. I appreciate your direction here. Space.tracker.nerd (talk) 13:31, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Idaltiabdella2020 (14:23, 21 August 2025)

    • Explanation:**
    • 1. Understanding the Context of the Question:**

The question is about creating a citation for a research paper. This is a common task in academic writing, where proper citation is essential to give credit to the original authors and to avoid plagiarism. The user is likely a student or researcher who needs to cite a source in their work.

    • 2. Identifying the Purpose of a Citation:**

A citation is a reference to a source that you have used in your research. It allows readers to find the original source and also helps you avoid plagiarism by showing that you have used the work of others in your own writing.

    • 3. Choosing a Citation Style:**

There are several citation styles used in academic writing, such as APA, MLA, Chicago, and IEEE. Each style has its own format for citing sources. The user needs to choose the style that is appropriate for their field of study or the requirements of their institution.

    • 4. Gathering Information from the Source:**

To create a citation, you need to gather specific information from the source, such as the author's name, the title of the work, the publication date, the publisher, and any other relevant details. This information will vary depending on the type of source (book, journal article, website, etc.).

    • 5. Formatting the Citation:**

Once you have the necessary information, you can format the citation according to the chosen style. For example, in APA style, a citation for a journal article would include the author's name, the year of publication, the title of the article, the journal name, and the page numbers.

    • 6. Including the Citation in Your Work:**

After creating the citation, you need to include it in your work. This is usually done in a reference list at the end of your paper or in an in-text citation within the text of your paper.

    • 7. Verifying the Citation:**

It is important to verify that the citation is correct and follows the guidelines of the chosen style. You can use citation generators o --Idaltiabdella2020 (talk) 14:23, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Request for review of draft submission

Hello 1AmNobody24,

I understand Wikipedia’s guidelines and the need for reliable sources. I wanted to note that whistleblowers, especially racial minorities, often face significant barriers to having their voices heard. After contacting numerous news outlets in Canada and India, only two independent publications — OdishaFast and ReportersPen — covered my story.

Having my article on Wikipedia would help document these issues and support efforts toward justice and accountability. I have revised the draft to include proper citations, neutral language, and full disclosure of my conflict of interest. I kindly request that you consider reviewing my submission with this context in mind.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
