Chinese Number Two

he has recently been overtaken in the rankings by Xiao Guodong so this is now out of date source world ranking list on worldsnooker.com talkQueenAlexandria 14:24, 15 Nov 2012 (UTC)

Current ranking

Noticed Liang has a blank current ranking in his infobox, likely because his name is listed in the rankings template. I'm guessing he could just be removed from the template considering he's been banned for life? Notifying @Lee Vilenski since this is your GAN. Greenflipper (talk) 00:32, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Lee! I can’t believe this article has sat untouched since November! I will be happy to review it for you, and should be able to start tomorrow. With something this size, I will probably review it in pieces, a little bit at a time, so it will probably take several days, but then again, you’ve been waiting since November, so I’m sure you won’t mind. 😉

You may not remember me, but I helped implement those table changes on the Survivor articles that created a giant rigamarole. You’ll be unsurprised to hear that nothing there has changed in that regard. 🙄 Anyway, I hope you’re doing well, and I look forward to starting on this tomorrow. Bgsu98 (Talk) 01:41, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Dont worry. I dont forget a good editor. I very much remember the Survivor stuff, and am pretty burned out on such things. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 11:24, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
User:Lee Vilenski: I noticed after I submitted this that this article had already undergone a GA review (Talk:Liang Wenbo/GA1) that just seemed to have been abandoned. Am I missing something? It doesn't look like it was failed for any particular reason. I will be happy to begin this review tomorrow, but are you sure you don't want to revisit that previous review? Pinging User:Arconning, who did the original review. Please let me know. Bgsu98 (Talk) 01:58, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Bgsu98 The queries were answered after I had to fail it due to the queries being unanswered for some time. Arconning (talk) 02:37, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I did go through it. Apologies, my time is much more limited than I like. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 11:41, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Review (June 19, 2025)

Considering this has already undergone a previous review, I expect the prose shouldn't yield very many issues.

Lead
  • Very good; no problems.
Infobox
  • Image is good.
  • Everything else good.
Early career
Becoming a top 64-player
  • I would clarify in the first sentence who Bond is. I know he was mentioned earlier, but there are a lot of names to keep track of.
  • "Liang prematurely celebrated winning the match after potting match ball..." What does this mean?
    • in snooker, you can still lose even if you can't be mathematically beaten. Because your opponent can get additional points from foul shots. It's also not very sportsmanlike to shout and celebrate when the match is still in progress. It really was a big celebration too, worth a watch on YouTube. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 15:34, 20 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I guess what I meant is that you should somehow explain that phrase for the less-informed readers. Bgsu98 (Talk) 16:04, 20 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Im not sure how i can really. He prematurely celebrated the win is the point, but, stating he had potted match ball is relevant.
Other than saying that he could not mathematically lose is more confusing to an uninformed reader Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:49, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Liang made his first professional maximum break and three other centuries..." What is a century in this context?
First ranking event final
  • I would clarify who Ding is for the same reason as I mentioned above.
  • "This saw him placed 27th on the PTC Order of Merit..." I assume PTC refers to Players Tour Championship, so I would include (PTC) after that previous mention. Also, is there a wikilink or some other explanation as to what an Order of Merit is?
English Masters champion...
  • Photo is good.
  • Judd Trump is wikilinked twice in the same section.

User:Lee Vilenski: Not very many issues at all so far. I will return to this soon. Bgsu98 (Talk) 18:32, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Misc Comments (Copied from Talk:Liang Wenbo)

Lee Vilenski, Bgsu98 and Arconning, I think there are some issues which didn't seem to be picked up in either GA review (bearing in mind, of course, that the original review was closed before completion.) I haven't been through all of the references.

  • Date of birth is not cited inline A source already included in the article verified the birthdate, so I copied it to the infobox.
  • Place of birth is not cited inline A valid point.
  • Ref 135 is a bare url linking to an image from 2015 and IMO does not verify that Liang is currently married to Chen Xuejiao, or that the couple have one child A valid point.
  • IMO "excellent season" and "very consistent" are uncited commentary but it could be argued that they are appropriate. That is not a GA issue. If you want to alter the prose, you are welcome to.
  • "Liang made his first professional maximum break" - he is not mentioned in the cited source.
  • "defeating world number two Stephen Maguire 7–6 in the final." - source doesn't verify that Maguire was world number two.
  • " O'Sullivan (with whom he practices daily)" - I very much doubt that this is still the case. Maybe change to "practiced"? I fixed that.
  • Minor point, but I don't think it's quite right to say that "The Chinese Billiards and Snooker Association (CBSA) upheld the WPBSA's decision." To me, upheld suggests it was like an appeal process, but I think it was probably separate. To me, it sounds like they supported it. If you want to alter the prose, you are welcome to.
  • Ideally, I think, the tables should use flagathlete rather than flagicon. The current sort order seems to be by flag rather than by name. That is not a GA issue. If you want to alter the table, you are welcome to.

User:BennyOnTheLoose: The prose is so lengthy; I cannot find some of the points you raise. User:Lee Vilenski, there are a few issues which appear valid and should be addressed. Bgsu98 (Talk) 00:13, 25 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Follow-up comments (June 24, 2025)

I have reopened this GA because I did not finish it properly. Instead of foisting it onto someone else or just instructing someone to send it to GAR, I would like to take care of this personally.

Domestic assault...
Performance table
  • MOS:ACCESS requires the key to be placed before the table; I have moved them both. Also, the font size cannot go below 85%, so I have altered them to comply.
  • MOS:DTAB does not allow mid-table headers, which the large table has four. I would recommend splitting the table and making each header the table caption. Tables also need column and row scopes.
  • The tables need appropriate captions.
  • The text in the table should follow standards for capitalization. For example, "Tournament Not Held" should be "Tournament not held".
  • The notes below the table should end with a period if they are complete sentences.

User:Lee Vilenski: Please address these issues when you have a chance. Bgsu98 (Talk) 00:08, 25 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, thats cool. Allow me a little time, Im not sure I have that much this weekend. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 15:24, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Id recommend we take these particular requests to WT:SNOOKER as I don't touch (or really like) these tables and if theres some suitable changes we should make them wholesale. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 11:14, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Source review (June 24, 2025)

GA requires a spot-check and not a full evaluation of every source.

Spot check
  • No. 3 – Checks out.
  • No. 8 – Checks out.
  • No. 13 – Checks out.
  • No. 27 – Checks out.
  • No. 33 – The source seems to indicate Liang was the second Chinese player to qualify.
  • No. 45 – Source is not live; an archive should be provided.
  • No. 60 – Checks out.
  • No. 81 – The link is dead, so I altered the source to compensate.
  • No. 101 – Checks out.
  • No. 118 – Checks out.
  • No. 121 – Checks out.
  • No. 145 – The source is in Chinese. An English translation of the title should be provided.

User:Lee Vilenski: Please address these issues when you have a chance. Bgsu98 (Talk) 00:39, 25 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

yeah, thats fine. I'm always appreciative of anything that improves articles. It's worth noting that trans-language links and archives are not part of the GA criteria, but I'm happy to do so if I can. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 15:23, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am aware that archives are not required, but I was unable to access the source on account of the link is dead. Bgsu98 (Talk) 18:27, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think I've got everything covered. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 11:23, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
