Just skimming through the article. Lead says

While the Kukis limited themselves to house-burning,^[67] the Meitei mobs in the valley, mobilising in thousands, engaged in wanton killing of Kuki civilians living amongst them, including students, officials, soldiers and even legislators.^[68][69]
It is contradicted in the very next line -
According to Reuters, 77 Kukis and 10 Meiteis died within the first week.^[40]

I am open to suggestions. While the fact that the Kukis gave "safe passage" to Meiteis has plenty of sources, the fact that they didn't kill any civilians wasn't widely covered. In fact, what happened in the hills is relatively unknown becase the Imphal-based media (both local and national) didn't receive much information from the hills.

The seeming "contradiction" is presumably because there were clashes between rioters from both the sides causing casualties. This happened at the very beginning of the conflict as well as in the succeeding days. It is the killling of innocent civilians that is being described in the paragraph. I think good weight can be placed on the source since he was from a third community and himself engaged in relief work. Why is there no mentioning of the Meiteis as a general category but only SCs? This is invalid info; it needs an update. Don't be biased. Anyways, the Meiteis, anywhere they are, are biased, especially against the Zo ethnic group, whether in media or anywhere.
