Mit der Bildung des Kabinetts Merkel III ging die Zuständigkeit für den Verbraucherschutz 2013 an das Bundesministerium der Justiz und für Verbraucherschutz über. Der am 7. November 2014 von diesem Bundesministerium gegründete, neunköpfige Sachverständigenrat für Verbraucherfragen berät jedoch auch das Ernährungsressort des Bundesministeriums für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft.
