Adding ability of | native_name = parameter for other languages of Switzerland (for example, French: Genève, German: Zürich) at the top of this infobox, Also there are other languages used in {{Infobox settlement}}. Absolutiva 22:56, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

 Done. Please adjust the documentation. I have added |native_name=, |native_name_lang=, and |other_name= from {{Infobox settlement}}. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:21, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There is an unfortunate use by this template of incorrect data from OpenStreetMap. The maps imported (« location of … ») represents all municipalities located on the shores of a lake as containing within their borders a portion of this lake. To my knowledge this is never true in Switzerland: the portions of lakes within the borders of some canton are under its direct jurisdiction, and never belong to any smaller municipality. For the Canton of Geneva this is specified by the « Constitution de la République et Canton de Genève (art. 159 al.2) and by the « Loi sur les eaux (LEaux-GE) (art. 3 al. 4 et 5 al. 2) ». An additional unfortunate consequence of this is the incorrect indication as « neighboring municipalities » in the infobox of municipalities, simply because they are located on the opposite shore of the lake...

In think this is problematic. In general Wikipedia should not have templates providing mass importation of material from other wikis, such as OpenStreetMap (or even Wikidata). OpenStreetMap is a wiki based in England, and not backed by any official office of topography or cartography. It is liable to contain many more mistakes.  Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. It appears that if this is a problem, the problem lies with OpenStreetMap data, not with this template. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:18, 29 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
My request is: suppress from this template automatic importation of location maps from OpenStreetMap. The sources provided above show that OpenStreetMap is not reliable.--Sapphorain (talk) 16:30, 29 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Please get consensus for the same. Sohom (talk) 16:38, 29 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Sapphorain: this is done across over more than a million pages. One source for a problem on one page does not warrant removing this from so many pages. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:44, 29 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{Edit template-protected}} template. Sohom (talk) 16:37, 29 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Alright. Thanks for the advice. Where is the best place to seek such a consensus? Right here or elsewhere?--Sapphorain (talk) 16:44, 29 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Template talk:Infobox settlement would be a good starting place... Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:57, 29 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

standardize infoboxes and leads for former municipalities

I've opened a discussion regarding also this infobox here. --Friniate 20:34, 28 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I've opened a discussion at the village pump (proposals) on the matter. --Friniate 14:28, 9 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
